How do the horn auroras work?

Hello, I was convinced that the magic that ponies use is based off their eye color but then I saw this stallion

In which he used gray magic, now sure that's his coat color but, if that was the case Rarity's magic would be white, as well as Celestia's I just don't see it right, what is your take?

This thread appears to be discussing MLP:FiM in some way, shape or form. Thus, it has been sentenced to Show Discussion.

This is an automatically generated message, by the way.

I am still shady about how to move a thread. I just never learned how to change a thread to another section, maybe you could help.

Usually it's their eye color, or some other color that compliments their color scheme. as for that stallion, well he's a background pony, so who knows.Maybe they didn't put much thought into him.

Fluttershy's lover, she's my waifu. I'm in love and obsessed with her, she's given me shyabetes. *Hnnnng*

My guess.

White - Soft Magic (Seen with Rarity and Trixie when she loses her amulet)

Purple - Powerful Arcane Magic (Twilight)

Green - Powerful dark magic (Chrysalis)

Light/Gold - Holy, pure magic (Celestia)

Red - Overcharged Arcane Magic (Trixie with Amulet, Twilight's Purple appears Purple-red when blasts ponies with her laz0r, Sombra has a bit of red magic too)

Purple/Green and bubbly - Malignant corrupted magic. (Sombra's magic looks cancerous and unnatural)

The color of a unicorn's magic emanating from their horn usually coincides with the dominant color of their cutie mark. That stallion may just be an anomaly in this regard.

So, since Sweetie Belle's magic is green, that means her cutie mark will be predominantly green.

Only mods can move threads, so don't worry yourself :3 It's not a big deal for us to move stuff if it's in the wrong section. Generally speaking, when it comes to Show Discussion VS Sugarcube, Show Discussion is talking specifically about aspects of the show itself, and Sugarcube is anything regarding the fanbase.

I think the animators judge it based on what color will look good to them aesthetically, so there's probably going to be many, many examples of where a fan-made pattern does not work. In general they tend to follow coat or eye color, but in same cases they do neither. Celestia's is gold, and that's the color of some of her armor, not her eyes or her coat. Lots of variations here and there.

  Maybe we'll never know. Another one to add is Princess Celestia. She had purple eyes yet uses yellow magic (An obvious sign of her "solar" power).

Sweetie Belle's eyes are also green. I don't think that a pony's future resembles their magic, the joy in finding their cutie marks is not knowing what it is.

Now that I think about it, what color is Vinyl Scratch's magic?

I'm now leaning towards the fact that a unicorn's magical aura is determined merely by what color would look best. Twilight's hair highlight matches her aura. Shining Armor's cutie mark matches his (mostly), and perhaps the fact that he is related to Twilight influences the color in some way. Lyra's aura is gold (I think), which goes with her eyes and her cutie mark. Celestia's aura is also gold, which goes with her theme of sunlight.

The biggest hole in my previous theory is Luna's magic aura. It's blue, like her coat and mane, not black or white to match her cutie mark.

So yeah, magic color = what looks best, or what is, I don't know, common sense.

@, I seen it as blue. So I think it's color is blue. I might be wrong though, that's only what I recall, it might be some other color, I don' know.

  • 3 weeks later...

I would guess that it's whatever color people would assotiate a pony with. Pinkie Pie's would be pink, Applejack's would be orange or  red, Rainbow Dash's would be rainbow, and Fluttershy's would be yellow.

The animators don't always match the eyes or coat to connect with the horn's aura but there are other times where they do connect and they match up perfectly. Sometimes, it's an animation error or just animation that we usually don't notice.

From what Iv seen their aurora color seems to complement their general color scheme in someway, eye color, mane color, cote color, etc. My guess thought on this guy would be that because he's a background pony the developers didn't give it much thought.

I think whatever fits is the right one with some exceptions. Like, Celestia's obviously yellow since she controls the sun and all. Twilight Sparkle's magic is the same color as one of her hair strips. I think they just went for whatever fits well with the color scheme of the pony.

Exception being evil magic, which is dark purple surrounded by light greenish streams and dark purple clouds around the eyes. "Evil" magic up till now is the only one being an exception, which is logical because it signifies a whole different type of magic. The rest of the colors? Not so much. There're plenty of unicorns who have the same color for their magic and still use it for different actions.
