Am I The Only Person That Loathes Derpy Hooves?

Headcanons can be powerful things.
Just because she doesn't have a defined personality in the show, doesn't necessarily mean that she can't be fully fleshed out to the members of the fandom.
Each of us has our own idea of what any particular character ought to be like, and my Ditzy is not the same pony as the widely accepted fandom Derpy, and vice versa.
I adore her because of what she represents in my mind.
She's innocent, accident-prone, and carefree, but also means well, does her very best to keep a positive outlook at all times, and has a huge heart that's filled with unconditional love for everypony. The skewed eyes and her colour scheme play a big part in it all, as well
To sum it up, to me, Ditzy is the antithesis to all that is evil, and impure in the world.
The Element of Innocence, if you will.

Derpy is my youngest daughter's Best Pony. If not for Derpy I likely wouldn't be on here. A reminder that while Derpy was 'made' by the fans ... she also returned the favor. It was my kids passion that influenced me to give MLP a second chance.

 

Funny how life is huh? Multiple threads of chance determining our present.

I'm neutral on her, so therefore I cannot say I dislike her.

 

I generally tend to shy away from the more popular characters within the fandom, though - not because I'm a hipster, I just seem to be the polar opposite of the general fandom in terms of what I like in terms of ponies/episodes. Rarijackixie master race, right, @The Mane-iac?

 

But, from RD to Derpy to Vinyl to Pinkie Pie, I can't help but feel a bit frustrated about how I can't go look for anything pony-related without getting slapped in the face with something of one of them. While I don't dislike any of those ponies, it definitely wears on me fast when I'm looking for something Rarity and poof, even though my search had nothing to do with that pony, there they are, right in front of me That gets old after awhile.

 

I guess that's the only problem I've had with the Derpster, and that's definitely not her fault, so I can't really dislike her for it.

Lul, but seriously.  I don't hate her, I just hate the neurotic obsession that many underdeveloped pseudo-bronys have with her.

I definitely don't dislike her, and I can't really think of why anyone would. The only reason I can imagine is because she's overhyped, which is true, but it's not really fair to dislike the pony herself because of that.

Anyway, I'm kind of.. neutral on her. I don't dislike her, but I'm not like "OMEG TOP 5 BEST PONE DERPY IS LOVE DERPY IS LIFE." She isn't even my favorite out of the BG ponies. (That would be Button Mash.)

I would like to share a personal story.

I was born with a very stray pack of eyes. I had an eye surgery shortly after my birth. This didn't fix the issue... but it helped. However i continued to have those stray eyes and i would have to get into another surgery to fix it to 90%. Till that point i was accompanied by all the usual "retard", "are you looking at me or the next guy", and "what are you looking at?" Comments. For the most part i didn't care... like at all... despite all that i managed to get myself into computer engineering disproving them all and shutting their mouths.

If anything i empathize with her... she's a perfectly normal pony with a little wall-eyed-ness that shouldn't be a problem. Why should she be censored? In any case she is bound to be into countless memes and that's not gonna change anytime soon. I don't mind... i really don't care all that much about this.

And I completely agree with your other statements as well. Those same four ponies seem to dominate the market, in official merch or just fan made stuff. It does get old when you're a fan of someone else. I mean poor Applejack has been replaced in merch several times by frikkin background ponies or princesses. Include them if you must, but they are not allowed to replace a mane character.

 

 

OT: I don't really hate Derpy, I just don't find her this amazing character everyone else seems to go crazy over.

I originally was neutral on her too.  Then heard how people saw her as the connection between the writers and the show and that made me like her a bit more. After chatting to people how I should cosplay her since I tend to have a lazy eye . She just kind of grew on me. Partly because she might be the closest thing to s blind/visually impaired pony that we get in the show.

 

I would say Lyra and DJ both get a ton of attention as well and they're background ponies.

She relies on that, on doing absolutely nothing. So bronies can create a background for her, in fact, most the appreciation and love she gets, it's because of this. Many fanfics and art, that emotionally touched "some" members of the brony community.

If you want to hate, then hate. But try to realize first that you're missing out on quite a lot of information about the subject, which is probably the reason why you hate her. Because you can't understand it, yet. Don't worry though.

See I used to really dislike Pinkie Pie. She came across as annoying and pushy to me but then I heard the Smile song and I instantly fell in love with her because I kind of see myself in that song in that I want to make people happy.

 

The only problem I have with Derpy is that she doesn't really do anything. The spa girls work in the spa, Snips and Snails help Trixie etc. but I don't see what Derpy's role is in the land of Equestria... 

 

I think she is really over popular in the fandom.

Derpy is actually the poster child for why art in general is so extremely important to the human experience, and look at her through the lens of her admirers helps to give us a better understanding of why our own species is so unique and amazing. Through Derpy you can evaluate the concepts of the collaborative function of art, social consciousness, and the physiological underpinnings behind Expressionism vs Impressionism ... To say nothing of how serendipity plays a larger role in how our world unfolds around us.
