NothingIsEverything 1,239 July 30, 2013 Share July 30, 2013 I'm just curious about this because my mother is deaf. I know ASL, but I need a little but more fixing up because sometimes I forget the shorthand term for a word and I have to spell it out, which is annoying. So, are any of your family members deaf or blind? 2 Made by my wonderful boyfriend Kyoshi <
Zygen 6,066 July 30, 2013 Share July 30, 2013 I'm not deaf or blind myself, and nobody in my family I know is fully deaf or blind. However my grandmother is half deaf, she only has one of her ears, the other one she had cut off when she got cancer in it. So you can only really talk to her if your speaking to her from the one side. But as far as fully deaf or blind nobody in my family I know of is. 1 Thanks to Gone Airbourne for the awesome sig! Nobody Special 210 July 30, 2013 Share July 30, 2013 I'm pretty sure my grandma could be considered deaf. She had a tumor near her ear and the they accidentally hit one of her audio cords connecting to her ear, or something like that. After sais accident she could only hear out of one ear. So I guess she would be half deaf. 1 I am not creative so... Battlefield
Icicle the Ice Pony 14 July 30, 2013 Share July 30, 2013 My mema, who I was very close with, had lost all her vision at age 70 except for a little side eyesight. But basically none. She died last year at age 91. Odd enough, though, she knew her way around EVERYWHERE, even if she'd never been there. 1 Signature made by Me
Inactive01 5,299 July 30, 2013 Share July 30, 2013 My grandfather on my dad's side was blinded. It prevented him from establishing a strong career for the riches. He was very high up. People respected him, they loved him. His blindness got in the way later on. Nonetheless, if he got rich, I wouldn't have moved to Canada and I'd be in a VERY different position now. I might not even exist! Other than that, my uncle's colour blind. If he wasn't, he would be set for an aviation career. Nonetheless, he's doing wonderfully as a high level engineer at a Chinese company.
GrimCW 658 July 30, 2013 Share July 30, 2013 (edited) None that i'm aware of, but i did ride the same bus as the deaf kids back when i was in school. They have a HUGE deaf school out here too, supposedly one of the largest deaf populations in the country in the area to boot.. so ASL is more a need around here than spanish Always liked ASL though, the physical motions required, even facial expressions.... never could do the latter to well.... but I did hang onto it for 2 years in school even fought my school to get an ASL teacher instead of forcing me into spanish or french.. I don't care for spanish (not sure why, but i honestly can't stand it...), and french is all but useless out here (we actually only have it here due to the canadian border being nearby, but its still useless unless you visited canada a lot) so question now for you if i might... Is it preferred "deaf" or "Hearing impaired" Back when i had my ASL teacher who was actually 90% deaf himself (but damn could he read lips) he always said Deaf was better, and was what most preferred, as it gave them an identity separate from others and sounded less a disability than hearing impaired. The Deaf community considered themselves a sub culture within society, and had a place of their own that they could be proud of. Later when i retook some ASL in college my new, non-deaf, teacher insisted hearing impaired was proper simply because it was politically correct, and because deaf was tied to the old term "deaf and dumb" (where once people believed you had to be dumb not to know how to speak properly) thats it.. a simple "its bad in my opinion therefore i speak for them and they don't like it because i don't think its nice" personally i can't stand PC. I find it very demeaning in its own way by forcing new labels onto those that didn't ask for them usually. In some cases making things worse off simply because those fighting for it don't understand the MEANING of what their fighting. That and literally 99% of those that push PC have nothing to do with what they claim to be standing up for, then get it forced into schools and brainwash the next generation to believe as they do without showing the true feeling/beliefs of those actually affected by it originally. they just insist "this is what you should be called because the other thing is bad". Never bothering to explain anything but the negative history connected to things, nor the often positive spin many of the older generations had put on it. anywho.. input? notdog1996 315 July 30, 2013 Share July 30, 2013 None of my family members are, but a friend of mine could possibly go blind. He has the largest glasses you've ever seen. Personally, I'm fascinated by the blind and I even learned some braille (I know the alphabet by heart). I'm even thinking of adopting blind children later in life. 1 INTJ Introvert(56%) iNtuitive(12%) Thinking(75%) Judging(1%) You have moderate preference of Introversion over Extraversion (56%) You have slight preference of Intuition over Sensing (12%) You have distinctive preference of Thinking over Feeling (75%) You have marginal or no preference of Judging over Perceiving (1%)
Sugar Pea 2,682 July 30, 2013 Share July 30, 2013 Fortunately I do not, but I do have family member that are mentally handicapped by accident, or at birth. I have a heart for those kids...not only do I feel sorry for them. Most of them are actually really smart! My uncle is this way, and he made honor roll his whole life. 1 ℓ٥ﻻ ﻉ√٥υ
~Silver Essence~ 2,625 July 30, 2013 Share July 30, 2013 Despite 95% of my family members and relatives who do nothing but drink and smoke, luckily, they are not deaf or blind. Strange though, with all that, you'd think they suffer something by now...

Callisto 1,876 July 31, 2013 Share July 31, 2013 I don't know any fully blind or deaf people, but my grandmother is both half blind and half deaf. I couldn't imagine being half blind/deaf, let alone fully. It can't be easy. 1 Y'know, I've been on this site for almost ten years and I've never had a proper signature. Ain't that something? MichaelxXxTrixie 433 July 31, 2013 Share July 31, 2013 My dad is blind in one eye, he took a BB pellet to the eye as a kid. This is why you don't play 'war' with BB guns kids, someone is going to lose an eye. 1 Thanks to the lovely Pink Mist for the magnificent signature! Moonlight 7,286 July 31, 2013 Share July 31, 2013 Personally, I and my family members aren't blind or deaf. My mother is apparently blind in one eye, at least according to her, (which is why she can't drive a vehicle) but she's not fully blind or anything. 1 matching setups with my bff pathfinder

Kyoshi Frost Wolf 41,241 July 31, 2013 Share July 31, 2013 (edited) My grandma is very close to being deaf at this point. Her hearing is just not very good anymore. Then again, she is in her 80's....Nobody in my family is completely deaf or blind though as far as I know, luckily, but there are quite a few people in my family that I apparently don't know, so who knows. Armin 168 July 31, 2013 Share July 31, 2013 Unfortunately, both me and my mother are 'blessed' with awful eyesight. My mum has it worse than me, but I still have to wear glasses. I really hope I can book another contact lens appointment soon, the last one didn't go too well. 1 My OCs Snapshot http://mlpforums.com/page/roleplay-characters/_/snapshot-r4206 Rai http://mlpforums.com/page/roleplay-characters/_/rai-r3905 Chipper http://mlpforums.com/page/roleplay-characters/_/chipper-r5385 Arc http://mlpforums.com/page/roleplay-characters/_/arc-i-tecture-r5872
Mutemutt 773 July 31, 2013 Share July 31, 2013 Nope, not any that I know of. Grandma's got hearing aids Dad's got a color vision deficiency, but that's about as close as it gets. My dog's vision is started to fade as well, but she's not blind yet either.
Scootalove 10,689 July 31, 2013 Share July 31, 2013 I have a uncle that is blind, and I usually have to help him walk. I really do feel sorry for him, but I do help him try to get around places even if he can't see. 1 Credit: Moony © Forum FAQ Forum Rules
