Personally, since I hear LOADS of different kinds of electronic music from my brother, some of it, quite frankly, is just noise to me. And at times, I find it hard to believe some people actually love for that stuff. Music in my opinion, is something quite beautiful and puts a lot of thought process in being created.

But then again, I think that's mostly Dubstep, or some weird other genre.

Electronic though, can be in all forms of music. Remixes are mostly the source, but from bands like Gorrilaz, it adds a perfectly wonderful orchestra and other genres along with the feel and beat of techno. So yes, I have my mixed opinions, but not all of It's just dubstep and big beats that some people take it for.

Eh, depends, I don't really like dubstep or anything like that, but I like house and trance. I find dubstep to be overrated.

a local Brony friend of mine named Mac actually makes electro music on the side, and it's pretty good.

His latest one.

here's some of his other recent work.

I love electronic music, especially KoRn, Kill the Noise, Feed Me (I think), and Skrillex. I'm also into the MLP fan electronic music. Like Wooden Toaster and TuXe.

Not really, people like different genres of music and that's perfectly okay. Electronic music is a common form used in video games, but nobody cares, because for the most part it often does enhance the high energy intensity of the game itself. Ever played Streets of Rage? or any classic sidescroller game on an early 90's video game console? many people are fond of the soundtracks from those games, I rest my case. And while techno can sometimes have repetitive lyrics in them, it still takes skill to make synth in a way that is pleasing to the audience, what matters is if you enjoy the song, not all songs have to have lyrics in them to be enjoyable.

Wow, lowkey forgot what a massive trend Electronic music was! Interesting going through this thread over 10 years later and seeing artists I legit forgot about!

Anyway, at the time I would've said it was overrated, but now that its been over a decade and Electronic music has since fallen down the charts for the current big thing, my two cents is that it was no different from any other genre that was trending. More interest means more works being produced, along with new tools becoming more accessible to the public, which in turn results in an increased range of variety in quality and thus, more critics looking to see which ones are good and which ones are bad. There's been plenty of genres before that were considered overrated in the past, and no doubt there will be plenty more in the future as trends continue to endlessly ebb-and-flow.
