      Welcome to Art Rivals. this is a contest i have started for one purpose and that is to drive our art community forward.

 

              Now for the rules. this is a set of 10 challenges and you have 2 week to finish each challenge.

 

the challenges are

      #1 your own oc

      #2 your rivals oc

      #3 one of the mane six

      #4 one of the background ponies

      #5 two or more ponies in one pic

      #6 youtube video tribute 

      #7 fan-fic tribute

      #8 short comic

      #9 non-pony art

      #10 commission of your choosing

 

   Now how to challenge someone to be your rival/ get challenged to be a rival.

 

  First off is how to get challenged. what you need to do is post your best pic and a creative challenge to the world

and now how to challenge someone 

     it is actual vary simple. if you see someone you would like to challenge quote them. then use the challenge to come up with a good challenge of your own.

IT is I Fanglore and IT IS ON

       

                            

  To accept a challenge send both me and the challenger a note of acceptance and a link to the thread that you will be running it on. I will then add that link to this thread under Ongoing Challenges 

  Every two weeks you both will post a pic on the thread and it will be voted on by viewers. You two will also write short critiques on each others pic. Voting will continue until the next pic is posted then the winner of that round will be chosen. After the 10th pic is voted on. The one with the most wins is the winner and in case of a tie you have one week to draw a pic with a topic of your and your rival's choosing.

when the winner is announced i will put him/her under the winners section of this thread.

Well i'm a really crappy artist, i won't lie, but I think it'll be fun to watch this unfold and see the different art that comes out of this if it becomes successful!

I also don't spend a ton of time drawing anyways, very casual.

It is I, the Dork Lord. I hath challenged thee, o mighty Fanglore, to a duel across time and space Art Rivalry. Hereby, I confirm my participation in this glorious event. As we agreed, it shall begin on 26th of August.

 

By the way. I've just realized that I don't have a "real" OC, (I've never actually needed one) that thing in my avatar is just an image from pony creator. Tell me if you need some more details, (perhaps a bigger picture,) so I'm gonna come up with something.

well, idk, i am quite bad, like if you've seen my art you should know.

 

plus i'm quite rusty.

 

I'm probably just gonna stick to casually drawing and slowly making minor improvements. I don't have a extensive amount of time to draw anyways, i have school and band and stuff.

 

Plus most people here are way better then me .

You don't have to write a fanfic or make a youtube video. As you said it's a tribute, which means that if you like a certain fic or video, you make a drawing based on it.

I'm gonna go with non-pony art. I'm good with abstract stuff, which I will have a spoiler full of at the bottom of this post. I have yet to see anybody on here who does art that isn't just ponies, so I don't expect that I will have a rival any time soon/ever. However, I will still show you what I can do. The ones in pencil are the very first ones I did, and then I moved on to more complicated, ink drawings. If you want to see similar stuff just go on Youtube and search of abstract art speedpaint or something like that. There's tons of it.

Here I'm just gonna put some of my favorite ones. Don't get the impression that everything I draw is like this. There are times when I suck at art. Also the quality is bad. Sorry, I only have a digital camera to take photos of these, and less than professional lighting to use.

 

 

Oh, oops. I forgot to put any pencil drawings. Darn.

This sounds like an excellent idea! I'd like the join, but, um, does anyone here do full-out picture (no white space) stuff like this?

 

 

I'm bad at backgrounds (note all the blobbiness), and would love to have a rival that I can compete against in that respect. My backgrounds are so...blah... It only looks like grass/bushes because I used a texture brush.

 

Since my aim is background-oriented, I'm fine with both pony and non-pony. Non-pony would be ideal since I've been drawing nothing but ponies lately. Realism would be ideal as well...I like stylized art best, but I really need to work on my anatomy, perspective, etc.

You don't have to write a fanfic or make a youtube video. As you said it's a tribute, which means that if you like a certain fic or video, you make a drawing based on it.

But it's nooot The bushes should have leaves on them, not grass! They can just as easily be mossy boulders! I didn't even draw any branches! All I did was throw some yellow, green and blue around. And even then, I didn't get the lighting done right.

 

It's able to sorta pass because it's a digital painting, but I can't outline or draw background details to save my life. I draw trees the same way I drew them when I was five!

you know what i challenge you to be a rival. i need to work on backgrounds too and you are someone who has the same problem as me. you see so much good art,  its hard to see how good your own is . so as long as you understand you are my second rival and i will have to work on our competition after i finish Dork Lords but hey i think i can do it

Ohh, sounds fun! I forgot that you do color backgrounds too. Take your time - I currently have 9 pony requests lined up, not to mention school starting in three days.

 

I can sorta appreciate my own art, but only when there aren't a ton of mistakes in them. If I had to point out one that I really like, it'd be this -

 

 

 

 

- because people seem to like it, and I have yet to receive particularly negative feedback on it. Even then though, while it's a good "show off my skill" piece, I'm not overly fond of it since I prefer stylized art over realistic. For that reason, I like my gecko piece about the same amount as this, even though it has a lot of mistakes in it (spending two months on it probably helped with my fondness):

 

 

 

 

So many mistakes...*twitch* I'm basically just a perfectionist, so I try to make everything as top quality as I can. Everything that falls short of that is just practice and not really worth showing off.

 

...Back to the topic at hand, you'll notice that neither of those have backgrounds. XD
