music Post-Metal thread

ITT: we discuss the best music genre in the world.

Abandoning the aesthetic and musical principles of metal, post-metal is about creating other kinds of music with the instruments and techniques of mainstream metal.

Good bands to start with:

ISIS (My favourite band of all time, a shame that they broke up in 2010...)

Amen Ra

Neurosis

Pelican

Swans

Cult of Luna (Doom post-metal?)

Russian Circles

Oh dear God Yes.

Alcest

Amesours

Agalloch

Deafheaven

Onryo

Austere (Not entirely sure if they count, but whatever)

Heretoir

Shyy

Lantlos

Those are a few bands I like that come to mind at the moment. My mind always goes blank whenever I'm asked these questions.

But seriously, c'mon. Just because something is loud and abrasive does not mean it falls under the category of 'metal'. Also, Swans have only had post-rock influences on their two latest albums.

Cult of Luna (Doom post-metal?)

*Atmospheric Sludge Metal (which counts as a Post-Metal genre, ofc)

Swans

Swans play anything BUT Post-Metal :/

Anyways, Rosetta hasn't been mentioned yet, so I'll just post them here

Minsk makes for a great listen at times

Swans may be a lot of different genres, but post-metal isn't one if them. They're not even metal to begin with. I guess it's like when people call The Smiths post-punk even though they clearly aren't.

DSBM, not Post-Metal

Have some Jesu for this thread

Also leaving some Rosetta here since I listened to a bit of their stuff earlier

DSBM, not Post-Metal

I know, t'swhy I wasn't sure. However, they have a very unique sound amongst the Depressive Black Metal Scene. The "To Lay Like Old Ashes" album in particular has a very euphoric, almost Blackgaze-ish quality to it, which fits them in quite nicely with other Post-Metal bands.

At least I think so.
