Why do we love Luna so much?

Why wouldn't we?

I think some people, including me, can really relate to her. Yes, we don't know as much about her compared to the Mane 6. But with what we do know, we can connect with her personality quite a bit. The fact that she has a significant and interesting part in Equestrian lore helps too.

I, for one like Luna, b/c of her mysterious character and her not-so-social type of personality.  Remember though, even though she's pretty much the same age as Celestia, she looks young.   Take that back, both still look young, if you think about it, but I think Luna should be loved, even though she looks lonely and as of now, needs it so she can somewhat "redeem" herself.

Character design. In a world of bright and pretty horsies, she's the sole dark looking one with a fairly brooding and angsty backstory. Thus she appeals to a more grown up audience as the 'edgy' one.

^So much this.

People usually relate to their favorite ponies, and Luna has that angsty, dark, reclusive feel to her; her fans are usually like the gen-Xers of the fandom, I noticed, but likeable nonetheless :D

Because she's black, therefore she's edgy and cool. Because she's a tragic figure who was only being pushed around by the "evil" Celestia, because she controls the night and is edgy, because she's black, because justifying her past is common, and because she is black.

You can probably tell I don't like Luna, but here are the reasons why people like her. Luna is the Batman of MLP, a jerk who people seem to like

Honestly,so many people make headcannons about her background it makes even me feel sorry for her,but she is my least favorite princess and I find her to be overrated. She is a pretty good character, though.TBH she reminds me of Snape.

Because Luna is just... such a great character.

- Both of her color schemes and designs are really different and really gorgeous. Anyone can agree with that.

- She has one of the most solid backstories in the entire series.

- She's way different in personality compared to the rest of the ponies. The main six all have a very happy light to them, but here's this intimidating, old-english speaking mare scaring all the littler ponies away in LE. That's appealing enough in itself.

- Her relationships are really... complicated. She loves her sister, but at the same time, she still feels disconnected even after returning to Equestria. She's also attempting to make friends with Twilight, but there's still that awkward distance and overall favor to her sister. (Poor Lu-Lu)

- And yes, she's a hated character that should be loved. Root for Luna, errybody!

I'd never call her overrated either. Sure the other princesses need more love from the fandom, but she's popular for a reason and that should be something to call not worthy for her.

YAY FOR MOON HORSE!

In my eyes, I see her as BOTH a beautiful and mysterious underdog and as a tragic heroine who's had it rough in the past and that she has so many flaws that can really make her squeamish since she is firmly stuck in the past while everything about the Equestria that we know today is all so new and strange. Out of the princesses in the MLP canon, she's not only the most beautiful; she's also the most mysterious of the quartet.

She also had quite of a tragic past, being neglected of attention and recognition by her subjects and her own sister, who actually failed to act as a big sister and help her when she needed it most, resulting in the most painful and the worst decision that she ever made right after Luna had given into the darkness simmered by the anger and jealousy within her: banishing Nightmare Moon and her own sister to her own moon and waiting for 1000 years of isolation with no constant companions to be with throughout her long solo reign. Luna was basically stripped of everything she knew at the time and her firm attachment to her original lifestyle makes her the oddball princess of Equestria.

To be honest, I believe it's *mainly* because she didn't get that much development on the show for... quite some time, so fans were able to imagine her as pretty much anything they wanted.  Hence we get gamer Luna and Woona and so forth.  And even now she still hasn't been seen as much as other characters, so there's still wiggle room for fans to imagine what she's "really" like.

Though the darker color scheme and Princess-of-the-Night stuff is definitely a factor, yeah.
