I think the fandom will most likely survive. It just won't be as prominent and recognized in society. A fandom this big would have to have something horrendous happen for it to dissolve quickly.

I imagine a very long time, look at the Star Trek fandom, and Star Wars (the hiatus between the original trilogy to the new stuff). It'll live long and prosper. More fan made stuff will be made, more art, more music, reminiscing on old episodes...always something to talk about.

Seeing as the fandom has lost members during the break between season 3 and 4, the break between G4 and G5 wil probably be worse. Ignoring G5 for now, the fandom will shed members slowly but surely, leaving a core of true devotees. When G5 rolls around, it will either be amazing, terrible, or somewhere in between. If it is terrible, less people will join and bronies reminiscing of the golden ears will continue being stigmatized. Episodes from G4 will still be out there, and people will still join the community. If G5 is amazing, bronies have a better chance at becoming more widely accepted, and our numbers will rise, and those of us from this generation will cherish the old memories while making new ones.

My Little Pony is a show targeted at a young, female audience, bronies are an anomaly. Hasbro may target us more, seeing as we have more disposable income, but that might take away from it. G5 may also be truer to the original target, yielding a show unappealing to our demographic. After FiM ends, there will likely be a new series, even if it takes a while. A golden age for fan content will dawn, the internet will be a breeding ground for ideas conceived to fill the vacuum. Previous generations didn't have bronies or the internet as we know it. After MLP ends, something will emerge to fill the void. MLP as we know it will die but that which is dead may never die, but rises again harder and stronger. MLP shall be reborn, hearkening a new age of love, tolerance, and friendship, and all shall bow before the wonder wrought by the dreams brought to us by the one true Princess of the Night, our beloved Luna.

Wow, that got out of hand fast...

My point is that the fandom will shrink to it's core and ultimately find a new direction without ever abandoning our love for MLP.

I think, when MLP ends, the fandom will simply slowly fade away, until eventually, it is almost non-existent - but that will be in a long time.

It wouldn't really be wise of Hasbro to pull the plug on MLP though, that is their most popular show.

If the show does end, which I really hope it doesn't, not while I'm still around at least. The forum will still be up and running, since I've seen a lot of bronies here have a great idea. Someone will definitely take over and make a new story, pour in a whole new different ideas or perhaps even fanfiction would take over, like Fallout: Equestria, Doctor Whooves.

The MLP universe seems to be small but, it is really versatile.

I was worried about this for quite a while. I would talk to some nonbrony friends about this and they told me that if fandoms like kingdom hearts can be around for over ten years then mlp should be around for a very long time. Look at Dr. Who and how it's on its 50th anniversary.

I feel like when My Little Pony ends, the brony fandom will probably go quiet for a little bit, but then continue on pretty strong. I mean, do we really NEED the show to continue our love for cartoon horses? With fans who make animations, music, and even fan episodes, the amount of content we could continue making is endless.

Fandoms don't really die, I think. Their numbers decrease, but there's always that lovely bunch that stay by their fandom and keep it going. Or they just stay in the back of a person's head, but it isn't completely dropped and left behind. Fandoms are what practically keep some of us alive. (Or feel it, anyway.) As much as I am glad that there will be a Season 5 for MLP, I thought it could have ended just fine with the final episode of Season 4.

The fandom itself will probably never die.

But, it will surely be a lot less active then it is now. Even if you are just here for the fandom and don't like the show now, you should be glad that the show is still running, because once the show is over, it will never be this active again.

We also need to wonder where all the fan animators, musicians, etc. go. I think we will see that when the day actually comes.

I'd just watch Series 5 and try to convince others to do the same.

You make a mistake that many do. You expect that MLP, as it is now, will continue the route with G5.

First of all, who knows how long it takes, till G5 comes out. Secondly, it will probably not be the same writing team. Thirdly, Hasbro could make it in the same style as G3 if they want.

I don't want to sound like an :yay: hole, but it could happen.

When the show ends, we watch something else. Shows end. That's life.

I just hope that the staff has the artistic integrity to end the show when it needs be ended, and not after.

Well, the fandom can easily keep going we have so many talented bronies pumping out more than enough fan made content to keep us happy for years but without a doubt we'll lose some fans yet there will always be fans to keep the fandom alive. Just because a show stops the fans don't stop loving the show :) Plus we got DVDs don't we? ;) we can just rewatch them over and over again!! :P

But yeah, we'll stay alive, the toys won't stop, and with our fan made stuff we'll live forever!!!

I think at this point, Hasbro should understand that they'll make more money making a good show, rather than phoning it in like G3.  I hope the show never ends, but realistically, I just hope that G5 will be a worthy successor, even if the shows don't share any sort of common timeline like the different star trek series do.  Whether or not that happens will determine the extent of the brony fandom after the show ends.  I don't think it bodes well for the community if G5 is an abomination.
