Have we got anypony's who want to be a Scientist when they get older here?

I've bought my very own lab coat, does that count for anything? :P

At one point I did want to become a scientist, sadly my school marks didn't exactly align the way I hoped they would. My marks in Physics and Chemistry were... well, rather appalling actually. I really do like physics now though, there is something awesome about being able to figure out how long it will take your pot of water to boil mathematically.

I also love the quantum stuff. I don't pretend to understand it, but that stuff is crazy! It's like Pinkie Pie somehow broke loose into our world and decided to screw around with reality.

Oh well, I've started studying software development so I'm not likely going to end up as a scientist. I can still always love science though and dress up as my favourite fictional scientists for Halloween!

I had wanted to be a vertebrate paleontologist since i was three, and I even went to college for it for a year and a half. Sadly, that dream was crushed when I realized just how bad I am at math. I've since dropped out of Augustana College for favor of working on a journalism degree, specifically science or film. Strange combos, I know, but that's what you get when you're a Jurassic Park fanatic. :P

Hell yeah. It'd be awesome.

I'm actually not sure what I want to do with my life, though. I want to go into game design, I want to teach science, but it'd also be great to work in a lab and do science.

My main areas of interest are astrophysics and cellular biology, although I enjoy almost anything.

Well...I'm torn between several different jobs:

  • Lawyer
  • Forensic Scientist
  • Scientist
  • Criminal Psychologist
  • Therapist
  • Detective
  • FBI Agent

Yeah, mine is a mess at the moment. But two different kinds of Science are there on my list.

Yo.

I've loved astronomy since I was a kid. In fact, I would trace my fascination directly back to that episode of The Magic School Bus in which Ms. Frizzle's class explored the solar system. Proof that cartoons are good for you. /)(^3^)(\

Since my dream is to be an astrophysicist, I'll start this online cosmology course on Monday. If you're interested in higher learning, but don't have any money to attend college, I highly recommend Coursera and the Khan Academy.

Edit: As long as I'm plugging things, enjoy.

I thought about becoming a scientist at one point in my life, but decided not to go through with it. I didn't rule out the possibility though. Maybe one day if I decide to try something else, I'll become a scientist. It does look like it could be fun. :)

Ahh, not even actually scientists really understand quantum mechanics :x! What I find amusing is they don't have a clue what gravity is caused by/is yet its the force we "feel" the most. Physics is awesome in that way :) its great fun randomly coming up with theoretical physics with friends :x

Hehe, yeah don't worry about it :)! My advice? just do what you enjoy the most :)! I did a level maths and physics and enjoyed them, but I knew I couldn't continue and I didnt enjoy it after a levels! After 1 week of my chem/physics centred uni course (chemical engineering) I hated it and swapped asap to Environmental Science!

If you do what you enjoy you will work harder at it because you enjoy it and you'll do better :)!

I'm thinking of doing something with biotechnology, but I have no idea exactly what.

I also love astronomy, so maybe something with that if biotech doesn't work out.

Astrology you say? couldn't tell at all from your Luna avatar/sig ;)

Myself? I'm trainign to be an Env Scientist, so almost defiantly I will end up being a scientist :)! In any case, I will have to produce a thesis which will be published as "actual" science to graduate so I guess I will be a scientist :D! (in 2 years or so) :P

I'm guessing that anthropology/archaeology counts towards being a scientist, by your definition. So yes I'm currently going to college become either a biological anthropologist, primatologist, paleoanthropologist, or an archaeologist.

That might be a reason why I like Luna...

Y'know, I'd actually forgotten about Env. Sciences. I had thought about become one...

How do you like Env. Science? I'd heard somewhere that it was really hard...

I used to want to be a scientist like you, but then I took a study course to the brain...

Okay, maybe I'm just kidding, but I'm actually studying social sciences right now and the amount of things that don't work around here is not really motivating me to be an actual scientist one day... For some time, I wanted to go into research and even thought it would be the right thing for me.

But if you want to be a scientist, you should try to read some stuff about scientific methods and such before you make the first real steps on that path. I didn't. Was a mistake. A big mistake, but -and that's the best thing about it- you can do more with an academic degree than just to become a scientist. Maybe, I'll become a scientist, maybe not. But right now, I don't even want to.

I mean, sociology, political science and social psychology are useful in many different areas, not just the research and such. There's still a difference between being a scientist and being someone who has an academic degree in order to have a certain job...

Well with any course it depends on where :), it has a bed reputation for being an easy science, but at a blue chip Uni such as Nottingham, it's hard (15-20 hrs a week lectures with 40+ reading) and at other places its really easy :)!

It's a great area though, lots of jobs as everyone is caring about envy more! And a great subject if you like the more scientific areas of geography :)! I even write scientific papers and stuff and had a dissertation in yr1 !

gVTJs.gif?1351799453 I absolutely want to be a scientist once i get out of high school and college. More specifically an astrophysicist, (physicist for outer space). Have no idea what college im going to go to or how to get a job in that field, but eventually i will be a scientist.

@,

I'm certainly going to think about it...

I may just go for it. I do like Geography...

Anyways, thanks for the info! Better to get information from people who are actually learning about it than some rumours.

I am stuck between these three things.

archeology : love it, never gets old. I read a LOOOOOOOOOOOOT of it while tiny and still do. (I hate reading books in general but reading this sort of things are nice.

science:I am good at math and I am not sure what it is called, translated it means science.(pretty fun too, not math but i am good at it)

animation/graphics: My friends want to be indie developers.(made some nice games, but needs someone to make graphics.)

Currently working on my associate's degree in Science right now!  I wanted to move onto a different college to do my Bachelor's and up since the Community College I'm going to right now doesn't have what I need.  I wanted to get into Biomedical Engineering, specifically, Neural Engineering.  Still trying to look into colleges that have what I'm looking for, for both my initial degree and otherwise.  :D

OMG I LOVE ASTRONOMY!

that the type of scientist i would want to be :D the one who looks at and about space and stuff like that but i forgot the name for that scientist :/

I love to be scientist. I love astronomy im good at it but there 1 problem on this dream.Maths but i will do it ! For me, for my dreams!

Yea i want to do astronomy too but like you MATHS :/

I hate maths and i go into the class and i don't know what i am doing most of the time

I have hopes to study Natural Sciences at Cambridge and then go on to do Computational Physics as a career. :)

Absolutely love that field of physics in particular, quantum computing :D

Science is, and always will be, a passion of mine (as evidenced by the theoretical work on pony genetics!), so yes, I'd love to be a scientist.

Ok this is a question for all them pony's who want to be a astronomy and no cheating for this question so no looking on google for the answer and if you don't know just say :D

What is the atmosphere made out of?

If you get it right i will tell you

No cheating please

If by this you mean the composition then the answer your looking for is 78-79% Nitrogren, 19-20% Oxygen and the other 1-3% is other gases like argon, carbon dioxide and ozone :)

Also this is more of a chemistry question than astronomy.
