It seems that every pony in Equestria is named after something about their personality, appearance, occupation or, in one case, eyes.

So why is it that Trixie has such a normal name, one that we have and use for people? Yes, it comes from "tricks" - but magicians often choose stage names for themselves, and the name "Trixie" doesn't really match up with the naming standards of all the other ponies. I'd say it almost seems like she adopted the name because a) she didn't like her old one, or even B) she wanted to disassociate herself from it for some dark reason?

What could her birth name have been? Why might she have needed to hide it?? Does this even make sense???

I wish it could be Alakasham. I doubt many magicians would want to have a name that clearly states that they're not so great. Although, it seems to work for Flim and Flam, so...

I think her name really is Trixie Lullamoon, like in the show...

Usually ponies have names specific to them, and her 2nd name fits to her cutie mark at the very least.

But I honestly wouldn´t know, I think her name describes her pretty well, though :P.

:derp: I'm so good at this :derp:

Whaaaaat. Lulamoon. It's not in the show is why I've never heard of it. Just a toy thing. And we know how accurate they are!

Interesting question.

It's true that names usually have some poetic device for fictional characters, though I don't know which one. I think it has to do with Latin, the root word or something. I'm not too sure. Maybe someone can clarify.

I doubt she changed her real name, but who knows? Maybe she took the name from a book, when she was at an orphanage. Maybe the "Great and Powerful Trixie" is a swash-buckling rogue, going where she wants to go, doing what she wants to do, and not too bad with the stallions either. ;)

Where did you get that second name? I've never noticed anything like that in the show (and I already watched the whole series sever times so far).

P.S.: What's the big idea with all those shaking avatars nowadays? I see them appearing more and more numerous.

I wish the show would have revealed it. "The Great and Powerful Trixie Lulamoon!". It's catchy, if a bit of a mouthful. Then again, the toys are a whole different story to the show.

What the?

That doesn't make any sense. How would she have another name? Trixie Lulamoon's real name is what it is. Trixie Lulamoon.

I agree. I don't see why Trixie is out of place compared to names like Bon Bon or Lyra.

Considering how the naming conventions vary from character to character (one name or two? Real word i.e. Rarity, or made up, a la Scootaloo?) I don't know how you could say Trixie is out of place.

From what I can gather, Trixie does seem like the kind of mare that would need to change her name for the stage. Now I, among everyone in the universe, cannot guess what her name is accurately. If I was Hasbro I would open up her past on the show because there is just so much untold with her character. I would really like her name to be something lame so it gives her more motive to change names when she becomes a magician

I don't see the problem with her having a normal sounding human name. Pinkie's middle name is Diane after all. You can't really get more human sounding than an actual common human name. At least Trixie isn't that common a human name. I don't think I've ever met a person named Trixie. A couple dogs, but no person.

I think the whole naming system in Equestria is rather weird. Some other ponies names don't really relate to thier personality, etc do that may not be the case but rather all the ponies names are for convenience or a play on words.

Trixie is her name even though that doesn't relate to her that much but neither does Cadence or Flim & Flam
