Hey Check Out This Guy's Resume

Got this from a poll on Sodahead.com asking whether or not people would hire this guy based on his resume. Unfortunately out of 1500 votes, 59% said they wouldn't. Still, that means over 600 people would give him chance. What do you guys & gals think?

Edit: Apologies if the picture isn't showing, so here's a link to the site.

Ha, seen this before on Tumblr. It's pretty much a troll, but still.

I don't personally know how qualified this guy is based on what he's shown but I wouldn't count him out just because of the format. If anything I'd remember it more because of that. It would be down to qualification and references, of course.

The qualifications are fine, but well... look at it. Actually... this might be interesting. If I were an employer and something like this showed up on my desk, I think I would be more inclined to read it. Just who is this fellow that would send such an unorthodox resume? I would at least schedule a meeting with this gentleman to figure out whether he is outright crazy or actually rather clever.

Still though, I think this is just a trolling attempt.

I probably wouldn't hire this guy.

I'll admit the resume is..."striking", but work and personal enjoyment are usually two completely different ventures that most of the time should remain separate. I'm not saying work can't be some degree of fun or be something you enjoy, but with this the first thing that would come to my mind is this guy clearly doesn't take the position seriously, and someone who isn't invested enough in their work probably wouldn't work out down the line. Hell, he could be the most qualified person in the world but I just know most places wouldn't even give him a chance and just throw it out without so much as a passing glance, if they even went so far as to accept it at all.

My conclusion? Wait until after you're hired before you spring ponies on your unsuspecting coworkers.

It is about 50/50 that whoever did this is a troll, troll or not though I will give some points for creativity and originality. The qualification if they are accurate are impressive, however while I am all for making work fun if possible and living out your passions if I was an employer I would want to know if the applicant will actually take the job seriously.

Well, there's certainly no lack of creativity...  It's actually pretty nice to look at and is formatted fairly well (in my opinion), however, there is a distinct lack of an air of professionalism.  I'd definitely hire the resume that looks professional before the colorful and cutsey one, though that could just be me.

If I had to choose, I'd bring this guy in for an interview because he's more than qualified.

Now if he's just one of "those bronies" then I probably wouldn't. Personality means everything in business and even if you are the most qualified in the world, if you are a weirdo then of-course not.

If he's a cool guy, I can tell by his resume he's confident and has some humor. He'd be a great employee if he's like that.

Assuming this isnt a troll (I'm not sure:p) it would depend on the job I might hire him for web design or developer but not as a serious job that is very businesslike

I'd totally hire him. He can tune my guitars anyday.  Then again if this is his resume he'd probably have a pony collection that would put mine to utter shame. That would either make me look a little less crazy and pony addicted, or it'd immaculate me and make me feel inadequate in the world of pony collecting.

Not sure >_>

I would be on the fence about hiring this guy. If he has the qualifications, well, that is all fine and dandy. But his resume looks VERY unprofessional. Having random recoloured ponies and the view on the person (Referring to himself as, well..."him".) just looks bad. The resume on a creative view is nice, and it's brought together nicely, but the ponies allow the text to look cramped up, and everything isn't pulled together right.
The content is great, and he seems very hire-able but...The appearance is a no thank you. It's just unnecessary.

Though, this is just a view if I was neutral on ponies. If I liked them as I do, I'd try to talk to the dude casually, but I'd still be on the fence of actually hiring him. A good sense of humour and standing out is a grand thing, but... It's just hard to say.

I wouldn't hire anyone based on their résumé, I would hire based on their interview. I would certainly give him an interview though, as his credentials look great. And I would probably hope that the interview would prove that he was the right candidate because I like to work with fun people who take things seriously, but only as seriously as they need to be taken and no more. The resume does just that. It does what it needs to do (outlines his work history and gives an idea of who he is), but it shows that he doesn't take himself too seriously. But that's just me, other employers may not share my worldview and they might axe him for not being serious enough. But if he's the sort of person his résumé says he is, he probably wouldn't want to work for someone like that anyway!

I love the answers that the commenters here and there are giving.  But here's a twist for that question.  Would you change your opinion if you knew that the place the resume was sent to was a toy company or an animation studio?

Hmm. An interesting take - my initial reaction was a negative, "oh what a loser with no life" type of thing (we all like the show - but who would put it on a resume? Did he show it to other people first?)

And it's important to note that for an HR person, that initial reaction, even for the first second, is very very important.

However, another point is that even if he slightly reduces his chances of being hired at any one particular place, for "professionalism", the places that WOULD hire him with a resume like this would probably be pretty cool and tolerant places to work.
