The grieving companion

Spent all day cooped up in my room making this. Totally worth it, because this may be my favorite pony art that I've done so far.

 

 

 

 

Made for the training grounds "grieving pony" theme. Decided to cut the schtick and do something serious for once. Had this image in my head for a while, so this was a stroke of luck that I had an excuse to this.

 

But I need you guy's opinion on something: does this work better with just that empty, desolate feel, or with this slightly modified quote from the Third Doctor's final adventure, "Planet of the Spiders"?

 

 

 

 

I need to know soon so I can submit to EQD and DeviantArt before midnight, so have an opinion like there's no tomorrow!

Boy do I love pictures of sad ponies and this one hit me right in the heart. Ouch. Since the Doctor and Derpy's fan portrayals are my two favorite ones this one just dealt a huge blow to my emotions. Is most heightened by use of the quote, use that one.

Holy cow, that is amazing! Seriously, the lighting and shading are fantastic. I think this might be my favorite of your artwork so far. I love it! I also like sad pony pictures, so I like it because of that as well.

 

Anyway, I think you should keep the quote. Without it, that space looks kind of empty, and it doesn't look as good.

Fun Fact #1: The landscape here was sort of based off the planet from "Caves of Androzani".

I'm guessing you've already submitted this, but as others have said, I too favor the quoted version.  They're both lovely, but the quoted one adds more to the pic without making the background feel too cluttered.  Great work Citrus, and I certainly hope to see more serious artwork like this from you in the future.  You're really very good at it!

Nine's regeneration was sad in a "I wish I had gotten to know him better" kind of way, but there's a tinge of acceptance because he knows he's changed for the better and that he'll become a new man.

 

Three's final words also come from someone who's accepting the end, but they were meant to comfort somebody who was watching him die, with the assumption that he wasn't going to regenerate (the circumstances of the story dictated that this was a strong possibility).
