Flutter's lover <3 8,205 September 9, 2013 Share September 9, 2013 Found this randomly, while looking through a picture set of some really bad/silly Japanese inventions. I thought it was going to be all about bashing, but it wasn't all that bad. Enjoy. http://weird.likes.com/just-what-is-a-brony-anyway?v=eyJjbGlja19pZCI6IDIwODg0NzM5MzksICJwb3N0X2lkIjogMjczMDI2NTJ9 Thought it was worth sharing. Do you think a brony made it or some non-brony? 2 Fluttershy's lover, she's my waifu. I'm in love and obsessed with her, she's given me shyabetes. *Hnnnng* Yellow Pink Squee Blogs | Ask one of Fluttershy's biggest fans | Official Fluttershy fanclub page! GrimCW 658 September 9, 2013 Share September 9, 2013 (edited) A few common misconceptions are apparent so I dunno, but given some of the imagery it can be taken as a little of both. Good and bad. Mostly however it's bad. It also botches the release date of MLP and mislabeled it as FiM... So I'd go with no, it wasn't written by a brony at all. One misconception is that all are within the 18+ range of age. Now obviously those that hit up the cons are mostly such, but Looking about I see plenty of younger members here and there. Also this push that it's mostly male populated. As I dig deeper I'm seeing that many of the bronies are in fact female, but its the male members that get most publicity since we're the "odd" ones. I know it mentions the pegasisters, but it looks more like and after thought while ragging on male bronies. It also slams female members of the group as "groupies".... Not cool in this instance. Tbh I prefer the "meet the bronies" animation far better . but I suppose non bronies may fear watching such a video simply over its pony based content. kirbyboi 588 September 9, 2013 Share September 9, 2013 Yeah, some people misunderstand the term But here's my opinion on what the definition means. I think that a brony is someone who is a fan/watches the show MLP:FiM (both male and female) who are above the targeted age of the audience. But I mean, I guess little kids could count as bronies I guess, but it depends :3 I mean there's numerous definitions for one...who knows, maybe the term will be added into the dictionary one day!!! But for now I think that's the most reasonable/simple way to put it.
techno915 408 September 9, 2013 Share September 9, 2013 for simplicity's sake, i consider someone who is willing to watch the episodes a brony. there always has to be a start or base level, so this is mine for bronydom. i also found the link rather amusing. 1 This signature was created by coastercrutchfield. |--(0)--| techno915Previously: TARDIS915
Hiram32 20 September 9, 2013 Share September 9, 2013 I've always understood the definition of a brony as any fan of My Little Pony who is outside of the target demographic. In other words, if you are not a little girl, and you like the show, then you are a brony.
DATAIRSOFTBRONY 13 September 9, 2013 Share September 9, 2013 I've always understood the definition of a brony as any fan of My Little Pony who is outside of the target demographic. In other words, if you are not a little girl, and you like the show, then you are a brony. i agree...but i now would add that a Brony is also active in the fandom in one method or another. for example...for me i like to incorperate MLP into my favorite sport of AIRSOFT. like my name suggests...im DAT AIRSOFT BRONY. my brother likes to draw and read FanFics on his Youtube channel. so to just like the show is an understatement, you will find a way to add to the fandom. if you want to like just the show...i feel you will get bored and find a way to add to it. Dark Qiviut 22,388 September 9, 2013 Share September 9, 2013 (edited) If you want to understand the Brony movement -- the adult human fans of My Little Pony-- you've come to the right place. ["Pegasister" is] what you call a female fan of My Little Pony. I guess everyone needs groupies. I've said it a thousand times, and I'll say it again. A brony is nothing more than a fan of Friendship Is Magic, whether it's the show, comics, and/or merchandise. It doesn't matter how old you are, what your gender is, how passionate you are about it, or how active you are within the community. If you're a fan of FIM, you're a brony. Now as for the rest of the slideshow, I agree with GrimCW, this doesn't feel like it was written by a brony at all, but more by someone who's slowly come to grips to embrace the culture. He or she seems to tolerate it in some capacity, but either still finds it a bit discomforting or can't find the right words to properly explain the phenomenon. Two other problems with the slideshow itself: Describing the fandom as one ranging from ages 18-35. We have thousands and thousands of bronies outside that age range. Ragging the female bronies as "groupies." That term has negative connotations, as if they're riding the trail just to be a part of the community (a.k.a., "bandwagoning"). No, they're bronies because they love FIM just as much as the rest of us. ded 121 September 9, 2013 Share September 9, 2013 A brony is nothing more than a fan of Friendship Is Magic, I agree completely. Others tend to think otherwise, due to a rumor or a bias opinion given from a friend. HOWEVER! There are some people who are willing to go as far as what non-bronies think they do, and those are the people that represent us bronies in a negative manner. People who hear bad things about it and believe it spread it to others who do exactly the same thing. Meh. :/
Jessper 735 September 9, 2013 Share September 9, 2013 (edited) Well, the author tries to be informative and funny and I'd say he did a bit half-assed job at both of those. Half of it isn't true or funny. I wouldn't say the author was a brony or spent a whole lot of time researching the topic, but I guess we should take it for what it is - fun article on entertainment website. And yes, personally I also classify Brony as a "fan of MLP", regardless of gender or whether they like only some part or embrace all of it. Tho I would probably add that Brony , in my opinion anyway, should be really used on a person who actually took some deeper interest than just watching a few episodes, be it art, music, forums, clopping or whatever else. FoxyCryptid 4,330 September 9, 2013 Share September 9, 2013 (edited) I'm really torn here because they're not out and attacking us, but some of the choices of images and wording looks like they hold a little contempt and are trying to suppress it. As for brony, it's literally anyone outside of the target audience that likes the show. Hiram32 20 September 9, 2013 Share September 9, 2013 This topic interests me, so here's a question: should the term "brony" only be applied to those who self-identify with it? Or does watching MLP make you a brony whether you admit it not?
Jamesblorg39welsh 125 September 10, 2013 Share September 10, 2013 Super inaccurate but It wasn't exactly bashing us. Inseam I've never heard of adopting characters names or that we are all about snacks but it wasn't all bad at least "If you feel the need to treat me like garbage, I'll feel the need to throw you into the back of a compressing garbage truck." "I'd rather "go to hell" for hugging a guy I like then makeout in heaven with a girl I don't." NocturnalRainbow 248 September 10, 2013 Share September 10, 2013 My definition of a brony is as follows A fan of the TV show My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic who considers them self to be a brony. Age nor gender changes the fact whether one is a brony or not. Oh
Scootalove 10,689 September 10, 2013 Share September 10, 2013 A brony is a fan who enjoys the show, of course. Age or gender does not actually matter when it comes to being a fan, because the stereotypes do not matter. Celtore 2,770 September 10, 2013 Share September 10, 2013 (edited) A miserable little pile of secrets. But enough talk, have at you! A brony to me is simply a person that enjoys of certain aspects of the culture based around the "My Little Pony Friendship is Magic" television show. I don't think one needs to watch the show to be a brony, I think the simple act of enjoying the art, music and/or community is enough. It just comes down to whether they decide to label themselves as one, there is no judge or jury that needs to be convinced for you to join. And as for the link, it was probably written by a non-brony. Don't worry too much about it though, there are crazies in every fandom. Just look at the touhou fanbase for instance... RubyVesper 100 September 12, 2013 Share September 12, 2013 MLP Fan = Watches the show and enjoys it Brony = Watches the show, enjoys it and partakes in the community.
