gaming Which Hedgehog is Best Hedgehog; Sonic, Shadow, or Silver?

Yeah, let's ignore that terrible 06 game and just focus on this trio of characters. Sonic, Shadow, and Silver the Hedgehogs are all great characters in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. They all have their own personal stories, backgrounds, personalities, companions, and abilities. While I'm well aware that Blaze the Cat is not really a friend of Silver's, I bet Silver has some sort of friend in the ruined future, right...right? (Aw, whatever. He's got Iblis to play with.)

But, which one of these hedgehogs stands out among the other two? What makes them the top hog?

Shadow the hedgehog....why?

 

Because he's the only Sonic character I honestly care about. He has a nice backstory to him and his design is well made. 

 

If it wasn't for him...I wouldn't even like the Sonic Franchise.

Silver the hedgehog, the telekenises, future empowered, and strong character that is there to make a better future by fixing whatever he can.

 

His design is also very amazing compared to the other two, with the colors and shoes.

 

Overall, the most underrated of the three, and one that deserves another shot!

 

PS: Why do you think Silver is a name I use for everything? Now you know. X)

I like Shadow a lot. Sonic might be a classic character but, Shadow has more of an epic evil side to him. Silver, I don't know much about him.

Shadow the hedgehog is a total badass! I remember I always liked him the best when I played Sonic games as a kid. I also remember being ecstatic when Shadow the Hedgehog came out. Despite the not so great reviews, I bought it and oh boy, I played the hell out of that game. I'll always have a certain fondness for Shadow. He brings the most nostalgia to me out of all the Sonic characters.

Shadow the Hedgehog was a ok game, I just hated the fact it used the crappy engine used to make Sonic Heros. He just looks so badass.

   Hmm...well in terms of backstory, I got to give it to Shadow. He has the deepest story, and you really feel for his character, and understand why he is who he is currently. It's also rather unique amongst fictional character backstories (except when you look at Mewtwo from the Pokemon Anime).

   In terms of design, Sonic. Because I cannot get into Silver's design, and Shadow's that cliche black-and-red. He is also just a recolor. Sonic's design is just simple, and it works.

   As for abilities, I give it to Silver. His ability to use telekinesis was a breath of fresh air to the fandom, and it's one of the most useful superpowers out there. Shadow seems OP...but I suppose his story justifies that? Sonic is fast, and can penetrate metal with his spiky hair. And they can all use Chaos powers.

   Personality-wise, look up to Sonic's personality, because it's something I wish I could be like (I just can't, however). Silver...well I do like his determination and his heroism, but as Blaze said, he is very naive, and can be annoying at times. Shadow's personality makes him look like a badass (and that's all :okiedokielokie: ; after his game, his emoness died along with his past), so that gives him points

   Overall, I'd say I like Shadow the best. I just like him the best personally, in nearly all categories (in my previous rankings I tried to explain what seems to be the general thoughts). That's all I can say, besides that Sonic and Silver nonetheless come close

   Going by my previous rankings, however (excluding the one above), the rankings would play out as so for the best character via average (again, this is based on my opinion):

Silver the Hedgehog... what can I say? He has three conflicting origin stories, first showed up in sonic 06 as one of the least fun playable characters in my opinion and he hasn't exactly been that present in the other sonic games. All the other games he has had a role in have been the portable ones with the exception of Sonic Generations.

 

 

Shadow the Hedgehog from Sonic Adventure 2 was awesome. He was a subtle and mysterious character that I was interested in learning more about as the game progressed. Going forward though, not so much... I think they forgot how to write Shadow when he finally got his own game. He does rank above Silver though, mostly because he has a consistent story and I like his design. It's probably the shoes.

Sonic, can't go wrong with him, right? Well, you can, but I think he is going to be my favourite. While Silver is in the background and Shadow has become extremely angsty over the years, I don't really have any reason to hate Sonic. I really like how sonic has grown and I think he's a pretty good character. He doesn't have a history, but maybe it's better that way...

Sonic is one of the few characters in the series that I don't find absolutely grating.  Not on the list but I also like Amy Rose. Shocker I know, but she has her moments too imo

 

Shadow was cool in Sonic Adventure 2, but he should've stayed dead. Now all I see is an emo Sonic who's even more unlikeable as Sasuke

Shadow the Hedgehog. I remember playing Sonic Adventure 2 for the first time and enjoying his character. I just cared about him more than the other characters. His story was quite nice too. He wanted revenge for Maria's death and in the end, he died to protect Earth. But of course,  he came back in later games.

I like the way Shadow came back in newer games but what I dislike is the fact that they've yet to really explain whether he's the real Shadow or just a clone/robot. That's left rather wide open.

I like Sonic the most, I just do.

Shadow is okay, I enjoyed playing as him in Sonic Adventure 2 from what I can remember but I don't really have much else to say about him, I find all his backstory stuff a little convoluted though.

I don't know anything about Silver other than that he was in Sonic 06.

Sonic all the way. Especially the older Sonic, the one who was a total douchebag, to the point where if you let him stay still for 3 minutes he'd go "Oh yeah? Well, screw you!" And he'd go out of the screen and close the game. Even if you had infinite lives, it didn't matter, it was GAME OVER. Over the years, Sonic has become more appealing to kids. Sonic in '06 was god-awful.

 

Shadow was okay in SA2, but over the course, he turned into a "meh" character. Shadow the Hedgehog was unbearable. But in '06 he'd gotten better, he was pretty much that "don't care, I'm just here to do my job" guy.

 

Oh, and I never liked Silver.

My favorite of the three hedgehogs is Silver. There is a number of reasons for this and I will list them:

 

1. His design, in my eyes white is always a very good color. Silver's gauntlets are also very sleek and of interesting design. His spikes/hair is also more unique and longer then those of Sonic and Shadow.

2. Silver's ability of telekinesis and other abilities that go along with such is unique compared to the others. He may not be the fastest, toughest, or strongest of the hedgehog but he is still very powerful.

3. His backstory, at least the one involving Blaze, is very bittersweet. In the very act a saving his future from destruction by going into the past and fixing things... he create a future never needs to go into the past and thus never meets Blaze.

4. Whose developing relationship and friendship with Blaze is a very potent thing indeed and I hope they actually have them become friends again.

My favorite is definitely Shadow. Mostly because I loved that game, he's a badass, and looks cool. But I remember playing Sonic back in the 90's when it was a side-scroller on the genesis. So Sonic always has a piece of my heart.

 

What I'm curious about - why are so many MLP-fans also Sonic fans?

He just overall looks amazing, and well most appealing to myself, Shadow is a close second.

Overall, I choose Sonic. Mainly because of his design and personality. Silver also has a neat design and I really like his backstory.

I might be able to answer that for you, friend.

Both fanbases have characters with speed and attitude, as well as some awesome companions by their side.

Plus, there's that side of the fanbase that's NEVER satisfied, even when they get exactly what they're asking for.

Why? I don't know. I'm just making an educated guess.

But in Shadow's own game they have so many different endings and never particularly say which one leads into the true ending so it could be said that he is the real Shadow because Black Doom interacts with him and never says anything about him being fake and it would make more sense, since it's never said, that Black Doom would only interact with the real Shadow. I haven't played the game in forever though so maybe I'm remembering wrong.

 

It's never really brought up after that so it's left up to the player's own interpretation.

 

Also, in Sonic Heroes they do find a room of a BUNCH of Shadows but in the beginning of the game there's only one Shadow in that capsule. It's possible that he is the original, just without his memories, but because he was successfully cloned he was left to rot in an old base with Omega.

I personally like Silver the best out of the trio. I really like his story in 06 and his theme song "Dreams of an Absolution" is the best out of the 3 in my opinion. Next would be "His World" then finally "All Hail Shadow". I can't complain about the music in Sonic games because Sonic Team does a fantastic job finding people to do the music for their games. Silver is just a cool character, he is from a post-apocalyptic future where he cannot rest until he finds a way to change the past and make things right again and he has awesome psychokinesis which was a really fun addition to Sonic 06. I like the main trio of Sonic 06 (Sonic, Shadow and Silver) but Silver has always been my number 1. I like Shadow and Sonic a whole lot too.
