music Least Favorite Genres of Music

Le Kvlt Dawn

Recommended Posts

There's like ten million "favorite music" threads, so I'd thought it would be a good idea to make a thread about genres that we dislike.

I personally hate power metal and symphonic metal. Power metal is cheesy and annoying, and symphonic metal bores me to death.

So hbu guys?

inb4 someone complains about pop

Before you say anything, keep in mind that Skrillex is NOT dubstep.

Is dubstep its own separate genre, if so, I hate dubstep. Especially Skrillex.

But if dubstep isn't its own genre, than my least favorite genre would have to be Alternative Folk. Yes, it's a genre, and it isn't that good.

Grindcore.

I don't like this genre because

1. Too fast

2. Too repetative

3. Hardly can understand the vocals

4. The songs are just way too short and they don't have a true ending to them.

Country. Contrary to most Swifties, I have found her music become more and more bearable. Heck, I almost bought "Trouble".

I agree with your decision on country music, but to me, "Trouble" doesn't fall under country. It seems like more of a pop song, with a light country twist, but I don't know. That's just me x)

I can't stand country because I just hate anything that comes with the package. Can you find it at the Rodeo? Chances are I hate it. Is it a southern stereotype? Hate that too. None of that, however, COMPARES to the feeling I get when someone says "all y'all." Dear lord. All you all? This isn't even English anymore...

Sorry for the rant- and don't get me wrong, I'm not going to hate you or judge you for liking country music/stuff, just please leave me out of it x)

Depends entirely on my mood, much like my favorite genre of music. There aren't many country songs that I've wanted to listen to again, and I agree with Dawn about power metal as well. Maybe I've just missed out on the good stuff, but most everything I've heard from the genre has been kinda, I don't know, empty almost, and the lyrics and the drums and guitars are just going harder to hide that. I'm doing a crappy job of explaining it, but that's how I feel.

Country music. It just puts me in a bad mood. It's typically either depressing, or annoying. I've probably said it on this forum before, but I'll say it again... I heard one song that said "God Bless Texas" and it was enough country for me for a thousand lifetimes. Seriously? Country is embarrassing (along with John Melloncamp). It only makes me more embarrassed for living where I do, because so many people listen to it. They blare it at work, too. Hence where I heard that god awful song. I try not to hate on genres of music, but country is just... too much.

I also don't like metal that has screaming in it. It's sad because I do sometimes like the instrumental parts of metal, but I just don't like those vocals.

Dubstep.
It's thoroughly unenjoyable for me, and it honestly baffles me how anyone could actually listen to this ear poison on day-to-day basis, let alone go to an open air music festival like Dreamland to listen to it live.
The entire genre is based around one gimmick: bass drop, which is the exact reason why I hate the genre so damn much.^
It's bass driven, glorified techno and nothing else.

A lot of people complaining about Dubstep in here, for me it depends, sometimes Dubstep can have a more chill sound to it, guys like Burial, Skream, and Blackmill are pretty good, but then you have the loud and noisy unbearable stuff like Skrillex, Datsik, and Excision.

I also hate Death Metal and Tech Death (with very few exceptions to both), but I don't mind Melodeath and I love Grindcore.

Modern Country music is just something that I can't stand, a lot of it sounds poppy and watered down, the same thing goes for Hardcore, a lot of the modern Post-Hardcore and Metalcore bands just sound really bland and just hard to sit through, but there are a few better recent bands to come out of Post-Hardcore (La Dispute, Dance Gavin Dance, A Lot Like Birds, Touche Amore etc.), can't think of any better recent Metalcore bands off of the top of my head, but there probably are quite a few better bands to have come out recently.

Also yes, Power Metal is boring as hell, the same thing goes for Thrash Metal, but I don't mind Symphonic Metal, it's not something that I like, but I can bare through it.

I kind of like dubstep. Mostly because I like random noises. But let's get back on topic.

I don't really like Country Music. Almost every time I've heard a country song, it's about the singer's mother, or it's about some sort of alcohol.

Please don't hurt me.

Though Skrillex doesn't makes Dubstep, since he makes Brostep, wouldn't exactly count, unless you dislike actual Dubstep such as Mala and Digital Mystikz.

Now onto mine, I'd have to say the two genre's I dislike with passion are country and pop, pop because of it being the most mainstream shit I've seen and most is terrible, with an exception or two, and then country, not that it's bad, it's just not for my liking.

Crunkcore. It doesn't even deserve to be its own genre. Crunk and screamo simply don't mix. Don't think I've heard a single crunkcore song that I've liked... but then again, I don't even go searching after the first two or so tracks I attempted.

Rap. I can't stand it. I hate it. To me, it just sounds like talking with a generic rhythm in the background.

I also dislike VERY VERY heavy Death metal. I don't mind some death metal, but when the songs are basically whoever can scream the loudest, I don't like it. How can you even understand it?

Holy hell yes, why didn't I think of that before, Crunkcore is just bad and it's a disgrace to Hardcore music the two mix together in the worst way possible and there isn't anything good about it, not only that the "humor" in Crunkcore lyrics are just bad.

I was trying to avoid using the Brostep label, since some people actually get offended by it, for some reason I'll never know, but you are right on it, Mala and Digital Mystikz are both awesome too btw.

Brostep? Can't say that I've heard of that.

I also wanted to say that I REALLY despise rap music. Why? Because it's some people talking with some beat in the background.

That's something I will never get, why would one get offended by just stating what's true? And yes, they're great in my opinion.

Brostep? Can't say that I've heard of that.

Brostep is a sub-genre of Dubstep which is normally what you hear, such as Skrillex and Datisk, it's less appealing than real dubstep.

Like 90 percent of rap, all it seems to do is talk about sex, drugs, and money as well swears a lot.

The 'heavier' rock and metal genres, especially if it seems are screaming when you can't even understand what they're saying.

As a fan of proper emo bands like Texas Is the Reason, Sunny Day Real Estate, Cap'n Jazz, etc., I hate "emo" bands like My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy, Paramore, etc.

A few months back I used to totally dig Helloween, now I can barely stand them. It's the vocals that turn me away from power metal the most, they're high pitched, cheesy, and accompanied by some cheesy lyrics about dragons.

Dubstep.

inb4 someone complaints about pop

"Cracks knuckles"

~~~~~~
This is by far one of the worst thing in this universe.
Music is supposed to be an art. And to be an art, it must be artistic, share emotions, ideas, opinions. But now... repetitive sound made by a program and random lyrics, talking about sex, ALL THE TIME.
And not only that: What I like in music is actually THE music. I like all the emotions shown and shared in these sounds, and it's the only time I can feel my emtions, because they are buried far away in me.
But Pop... feels depressive. Seriously, pop music ruined my whole entire life, anytime I would hear it, I would feel depressive. And when we were cleaning the house, my mother used to put loud pop music. And now, everytime I clean the house, I become sick.. Pop music shares no idea, no emotions, just plain nothing.
Music is now a product, ever since pop music started being crap, 2000's. Since it is plain simple, it is available and enjoyable with people with a musical intelligence not really developped. So well, the music critics being some of them, everything they enjoyed, they said it was pop, and everything they disliked because it was too complex, they putted it prog rock category, then belittling this genre like it was pest.
In a part, it's not so "bad", because prog rock now regroup hundred of different and wonderful styles, easily available. But for pop...
They make a repetitive sound medley, put awful lyrics and then play it again and again on the radio, pulling it down your throat until it get stuck in your head, and you "like" it. It's the case for most of them. And for a bonus, videoclips. Nude girls bring a lot of people right?
Sadly, Prog Rock never got the recognition they deserve, the style only lasted 10 years until other styles start belittling it, getting simpler all the time, until it became a product, for money.
One of my favorite group, Gentle Giant, said: "We don't care if we don't make money, if we are not popular, we just want to make music." Yet, they disbanded in 1980. In 10 years, they wrote simply amazing songs, produced a bunch of concept album. But their songs are still not forgotten by all the fans. Do you remember the Black Eyed Peas? Not until you readed this, probably.
Go explore the vast universe of the music, stop being manipulated by these "products", explore, you might find incredible stuff.
But Nine Inch Nails songs are almost always related to sex, and they're AMAZING.
And not only that: What I like in music is actually THE music. I like all the emotions shown and shared in these sounds, and it's the only time I can feel my emtions, because they are buried far away in me.
Okay, many people can agree with you on that.
I enjoy listening to J-pop, whole albums. Seriously, that stuff is addicting.
But pop music has ALWAYS been crap, and I've heard one song by Yes, it was a power ballad.
TBH, I'm not a fan of most prog rock. I enjoy prog metal (except for Dream Theater, I HATE THEM).
Sadly, Prog Rock never got the recognition they deserve, the style only lasted 10 years until other styles start belittling it, getting simpler all the time, until it became a product, for money.
And prog metal today is thriving very well.
Dude, 80% of what I listen to is underground to some degree. Some of the bands that I like are obscure AF.
Oh, well gee... I hope you're not drinking too much...
Besides, post-punk totally OWNS prog rock.
Why did you quote me when it comes to hip hop, I didn't bring anything up about that genre I mentioned rap ... unless hip hop is related to rap?
Maybe you can give me an example of death metal that incorporates jazz?
Also when it comes to music like death metal I cannot help but feel it's... depressing. I admit I'm not much for music that is overly depressive, dark, angry, or aggressive.
Also can you give me an example of true dubstep, perhaps a youtube link? I admit I'm not quite sure what it is and I'm not even certain if I've ever heard it be played. I probably have, I just don't recognize it by the name of dubstep.
