NightOwl 912 October 22, 2013 Share October 22, 2013 Yes and no. There have been times when I was small where I was scared to stay in a pitch black place for too long because of my imagination now though I am still a little like that but not as bad. Pomfritter 165 October 22, 2013 Share October 22, 2013 I'm not necessarily scared of the dark; I am, however, more confused than anything. I already wear glasses because I'm blind, and walking through a hallway trying to understand the environment around me is extremely difficult. crazitaco 596 October 22, 2013 Share October 22, 2013 (edited) I love the dark and prefer to sleep in total darkness actually :3 I've never had any issues with the dark as a kid, but then again me and my siblings were weird and stopped taking day naps at about 2 or 3 years old. One year, there was this hurricane coming towards my city and we boarded up all the windows in the house to brace for impact. The hurricane never hit us so we removed the boards, but i decided to keep the boards in my room. It allows me to sleep in without being woken by the pesky sun, lol! I can go to sleep at any time of the day too, since my room will be nice and dark regardless of the sun. No windows also means i don't have to worry about peeping toms, burglars, or some crazy person coming through the window and murdering me in my sleep Any sort of light in the room bothers me although won't prevent me from sleeping. I always throw something on top of my sister's alarm clock (since we share a room) to block out its light. Wingnut 7,001 October 22, 2013 Share October 22, 2013 When I was small, I used to need a nightlight in my room. Even with that, I was a bit scared after mom and dad went to bed. Some of the light from the living room made its way to my bedroom. So when they retired for the night, it was even darker than usual. But like lightning, this is another childhood phobia I have outgrown.
Creamy Arty 6,252 October 23, 2013 Share October 23, 2013 Not afraid of it, but I'm not fond of total darkness. Being able to see where I'm going is something I really enjoy. My room is slightly illuminated by the glow of my computer's lights, which is plenty to help me find my way around without making sleep more difficult for this insomniac than it already is. The rest of the house is only illuminated at night by whatever light filters in through the windows. Walking out of my dimly lit room, my eyes are able to adjust quickly to the lower lighting elsewhere. As a kid I had a nightlight rather than a computer but it served the same purpose. Darkness didn't bother me then either. As a country guy who grew up under night skies full stars and a bright moon rather than the murky orange glow familiar to city dwellers, I find that very unusual and just a little unsettling. I'd take complete darkness over that strange orange coloration cast over everything. 1 Kyoshi made this ^^ Come join us on Equestria.tv on Fridays at 6 PM Eastern for our weekly movie nights! Antismurf9001 1,271 October 24, 2013 Share October 24, 2013 I have an odd relationship with darkness. On one hand, I find it very comforting when it surrounds me and it's one of the best environments to think in. On the other hand, I absolutely hate having my back towards darkness. Commander Tangent 861 October 24, 2013 Share October 24, 2013 Oddly, I am only afraid of the dark, when it is silent, if there is any noise, I feel fine and dandy in it, but just silence and darkness do not mix with me. Jillian 2 October 24, 2013 Share October 24, 2013 I used to be, but not anymore! As long as I'm not reading any spooky stories before bed, I can waltz through the dark. I'm such a macho! Cwanky 17,600 October 24, 2013 Share October 24, 2013 Much less so now, but I still am to some extent. There's nothing wrong about being afraid of the dark, (or not being afraid of it). Its a primal instinct found in many animals really and its a survival mechanism. I can't fault anyone for really fearing the dark. It is unknown, deprives us of some of our basic senses, and its a favored hunting time and area for predators and criminals. I guess you can say that you shouldn't normally fear the dark as long as you're smart, know where you're going, and keep yourself safe and secure at home, nothing out of the ordinary should happen to you.. ...*watches as a claw grabs him that night after saying said remark*
Sugar Cube 4,843 October 24, 2013 Share October 24, 2013 I wouldn't say I'm afraid of the dark. My room is pitch black when I sleep because even the littlest bit of light tends to distract me and keep me from falling asleep, so I try to avoid any light. As for outside, I don't necessarily fear the dark unless it's so dark that I cannot see where I am going. I know there's always a chance of crime happening. When I was in high school I used to go a charter school at evening hours, and because I didn't drive or ride a bike I would take the city bus. Unfortunately, I still had to walk quite a distance in the dark after 10:00 PM, so it made me a little nervous for a while, but I would be sure to stay alert at all times and keep an eye on my surroundings while listening for any noise. There were times where there was so little activity that the streets felt almost ghostly. I'm glad those days are long gone.
Cwanky 17,600 October 24, 2013 Share October 24, 2013 Heck how could I forget? If we're talking about fear of the dark, there's no way in the deepest depths of hell I can NOT mention the classic Nick show Are You Afraid of the Dark: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jitg-3xbmKU To this day that show and especially its intro makes me shit bricks for days more than any overpriced horror can.
Hive King 2,001 October 24, 2013 Share October 24, 2013 I'm only afraid of the dark after watching something scary. I keep thinking something will pop out the instant I open the door and shadows become monsters. In general though, I don't like the dark. I find it annoying because of the lack of any sensory stimulation. Personally, I prefer the in-between times, twilight and dawn to day and night "Aren’t we the same? You know, aren’t you carrying the same mindset as I am? Just because you couldn’t bear to lose, you lost your precious partner! You really call yourself a true duelist? You’re the complete opposite of that!" -Weevil Underwood
GottlosMann 221 October 24, 2013 Share October 24, 2013 I feel so much more comfortable in the dark than I do in light. I don't think I can explain it. I prefer to go outside at night, and I only keep my room lit when I have company. Just feels better. Gott weiß ich will kein Engel sein!
HeroBrony 36 October 24, 2013 Share October 24, 2013 umm... yes I guess I am. But only after I watch something scary on TV. Besides that most of the time I am able to go to sleep with as little lite as possible.
