music Help! Working on a drum and bass track

I'm working on drum and bass track. I feel like I might be getting close to finish, but my headphones started acting all messed up. I need someone to listen to it and tell me whether or not it works. I'm thinking about the part around 2 mins, where there is a change in rhythm for moment.

Here is what I've got so far: http://www.mediafire.com/listen/9ifqlmb4txe3fte/drums%27n%27stuffv5.mp3

Thank you in advance!

P.S. Any title ideas?

sounds pretty awesome!

tough i personally like it if the bass is a little heavier, so yeah that's pretty much all i got. the part around 2 minutes seems to be fine to me too. smile.png

Thanks for the feedback. I was thinking about a louder and heavier sub bass, but at the moment it is hard to make one without being able to actually hear it. I'll try fix those darn headphones or just get a new pair.

I don't recommend a heavier sound, that kinda takes away from what you already have.

I do however recommend a more complex drum track. Typically when making the beat for drum and bass, you have around 4+ usually very close together, or even right after another.

All in all, it's pretty good, and I say keep making the music.

I'd recommend having more buildup to the actual drop. The drop itself could be made a lot more interesting by experimenting with harmonious melodies, adding in some sound effects, having those moments where the wobble goes loose an extra bit or an extra overdrive. Make it a little more interesting.

The high-pitched sound is a bit too clear, I recommend throwing a bitcrusher on it to get that classical glitchy beep sound.

The heavy baseline would certainly profit from having a go through Izotope Ozone 5. Izotope can really thicken the sound up a lot if you know how to use it. (Izotope is also available through Yar Har service)

The variation in the drums is quite wide for DnB, great job there. I recommend setting the EQ to take out some of the low end, and have the kicks cut out a bit more quickly. You can then side-chain compress the bass track to the drums, so that its volume lowers every time the drums get loud, resulting in that punchy, pumping sound.

The bassline itself is good, but bass by itself doesn't impress ears. Put some heavy sub bass under it to really have it blow. Also side-chain compress the sub bass.

I can also hear fairly obviously that a lot of default Apple instruments were used, and I am definitely hearing an ES synth in there. Is this Logic Pro? I don't think any of the stuff was made in Native Instruments' MASSIVE. MASSIVE is definitely better at producing complex and varied sounds than the default Apple synths. Perhaps try to learn synth making in there. (You can get MASSIVE, the... other... way... yar har). I recommend playing around with a triple oscillator setup and seeing what oscillators you can use for a rattling type sound. A deep rattle could really emphasise the heavy, industrial and dark atmosphere in it.

Finally, practice a lot. Feel free to listen to many professional tracks on channels like UKF Drum and Bass and build a bit more knowledge. Don't be afraid to judge yourself. I'm not producing yet, but when I've learned MASSIVE, I already know how I'm going to make songs. I'll do it over and over again and again until I can say "Hell yeah, this is stuff I want on my iTunes."

This is all coming from someone who, as said before wishes to produce. Aiming to create some of the most intense and emotional EDM in existence. I may not produce yet, but I have the tendency to pick up a crapton of knowledge quickly. I love EDM to the point of listening for about 6 hours a day on average. 50% of the time I play TF2, I am micspamming EDM. You could say I'm a bit of a fanatic...

Good luck with the song, and I wish you a bright music future!

EDIT: I also recommend replacing the synth lead @ 1:44 with a softer, more "glass-like" sound.
