Hey guys I'v seen so many people talking about their favorite movies/tv shows. But I never see anypony talk about the guys who play a big role in making these things happen. So this thread is for the  directors/writers(if you want). My top two guys are Stanley Kubrick and Jon Carpenter.Too me both if these  directors know how to get the audience on the edge of their seats.Kubrick in my eyes is the master of the grim and morbid, and Carpenter being the master of horror. So whats is your guys favorite directors?

Well I don't know much about directors, I pay more attention to the actors ^_^

But I do like some of Tim Burton's works. He always includes a sort of dark twist, scenery in his movies. Stuff like Alice in Wonderland and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory are supposed to be kid's tales, but he adds a sort of dark twist to it. It's mostly in the makeup and props that seems a little dark grey, I just don't know how to explain it. ^_^

I'm going to have to go with Ron Howard. He directed the best movie I have ever seen (Rush) and I love him for it. Besides him though I would have to pick George Lucas.

Wes Anderson is my favorite...his movies are so simple, yet so complex; the muted color palettes, the pure realism mixed with absolutely eccentric characters, the best soundtracks one could fathom...:D

I own everyone of his movies on DVD. A true genius in Indie filming.

Ron Howard is a pretty good director, but when it come to old George Lucas.I feel he is very overrated. To me it was the studio and the other writers  that made the first three star wars movies good.( please nopony hit me for saying that XD)I mean I don't hate the guy,but I feel like he can't really write a good plot/characters.

Stanley Kubrick is my favorite, though I don't think of him as being that grim outside of A Clockwork Orange and The Shining. In fact my favorite of his is 2001: A Space Odyssey and that's rated G. tongue.png

Other favorites:

Hideaki Anno

Akira Kurosawa

Paul Thomas Anderson

Terrence Malick

Quentin Tarantino

Jean-Luc Godard (whom I only recently began appreciating)

David Lynch

Orson Welles

Billy Wilder

I'm probably forgetting a really important one...

I view Kubrick as grim because even in the film 2001: A space odyssey it sends a message about where human beings are going as far technology goes, creating something like hal to ensure that a mission is done no matter what.Even at the cost of human life. Also in the film full metal jacket it shows how grim and dark war is.I think he is pretty grim XD.

My favourite directors are...

Stanley Kubrick:

This man is the God of all directors. His movies are so innovative and thought-provoking. It's too bad there aren't any film makers like Kubrick anymore :(. My favourite film from this guy is 2001: A Space Odyssey

Steven Spielberg:

Spielberg is the director of my childhood, with films like Indiana Jones & Jurassic Park. As the years went by, I started to prefer his more serious flicks, which are fantastic. Too bad he's a sappy old George Lucas clone now :(. My favourite film from this guy is Saving Private Ryan

Robert Wise:

One of the greatest directors of all time. Nothing else to say. My favourite film from this guy is Star Trek: The Motion Picture

Quentin Tarantino, of course!

You always try to know what to expect when it comes to his movies, but he always manages to surprise.

The crazy bastard. x)

For real....F*CK Micheal Bay.

No thanks I'll pass on that......I'm straight

Guys, Michael Bay sucks. After TMNT Reboot that he had planned a few years for, it's gonna suck so bad.

I'm still gonna see it just to find out how much it DOES suck. And I have a feeling Age of Extinction wont be so rad either.

James Cameron is one of the greatest directors of all time. Steven Spielberg as well.

Definitely Stanley Kubrick as my number one. Ridley Scott is up there, since he made two of my favorite movies ever: Alien and Blade Runner. Spielberg obviously. Scorcese (Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, The Departed, plus several other good movies that slip my mind). Also love the Coen Brothers (Fargo, The Big Lebowski, No Country). And I'll throw in Sergio Leone for good measure
