technology Thoughts on Google+?

Revy ~ Two Hands

As much as i'm gonna regret sayin' this, I might as well. We can jump and yell and scream all we want about the hatred for what they did, and even boycott to another video hosting website, but it won't do us much good. Google ain't gonna listen to us minors. I doubt they will listen to the little people, the ones who just go there to watch 1 or 2 videos. The only people they will start takin' notice of is from the big names in the Youtube world. It probably don't matter to them how many of us leave, but if the big names like Pewdiepie, TotalBiscuit, and other big names, they might start noticing.

Plus it won't be that easy to get those big Youtuber's to leave. If they move, and don't start getting paid again from some other video hosting website, they'll probably go right back to Youtube where they are getting their income. I'd wish anyone luck who could actually convince the big Youtube "stars" to move somewhere else in order to boycott the changes Youtube and Google have made.

youtube will listen because if many users leave (say 1 million or more) who is gonna watch the big youtubers. since barely anyone is watching the big youtubers, then those big youtubers will move onto other websites that people moved onto.

people are doing petitions but

Google is banning everyone that is spreading it. I think a boycott or revolution is more effective. But petition + boycott + army of Classicists (Old YouTubers and their supporters) = what we want.

well, i don't really actively use Google+, besides youtube, but yeah...

Youtube isn't getting better though, it was fine before google butted in.

But frankly it isn't that big a deal, nothing worth whining over, won't do good anyways, and i get use to it fairly quickly anyways.

Yeah, i guess, but it really doesn't bother me, i mean i kinda grunt at the dumbness of the update, but i get over it.

Its not like they'll change it, google would never listen to us frankly anyways.

It's not like it's forcing you to use Google+ anyway, so what's with all the hate?

Actually, it is. Of course you don't have to visit your G+ page, but that bell is still via Google+. And if you wanna post a comment, the option to share on G+ is ticked by default, which ticks me off because I have no intention of sharing anything there.

It's forcing you to use Google+ without even visiting it.

The only people they will start takin' notice of is from the big names in the Youtube world. It probably don't matter to them how many of us leave, but if the big names like Pewdiepie, TotalBiscuit, and other big names, they might start noticing.

I've already posted a video by Nerdcubed, and I'm sure there's more from others. If this shit goes on, they'll most certainly start leaving, making a goodbye video so their followers know where to find them.

If the events in Turkey taught me anything, it's: once revolt against forced change is triggered, if it spreads enough, it carries on no matter how hard it is.

Also, this post needs more brohoofs, go give it some love (and promoting)

I don't mean to say we shouldn't be able to bold/italicize/underline/whatever words, but did they have to make them from characters which already have their own usage? To italicize in a place where one is unable to (or where it's inconvenient like certain messaging services,) I put dashes around it. I know that everyone kinda has their own way of doing this, but that's mine. And I've seen other people do it, too. So imagine how surprised I was when the word I was trying to emphasize was STRUCK THROUGH. How. Annoying. It's not just that. When you put things between asterisks, it's universally accepted in the English-speaking part of the internet (which makes up the greatest portion of the internet) that it's an action being made by the typist and has been forever so since the internet boom in the late 90s, early 00s. So what do they do? Make your words bold. Yeah. That makes sense. Just try to change one of the biggest unwritten rules of the internet ever. It's freaking obnoxious!

I don't like that when you try to look at someone's reply to someone, it opens up the video in another tab. The same one that you're ALREADY WATCHING. Why is this necessary? Did someone actually think this was a good idea? Just have it show the comment like it always was.

I really don't like the sharing of comments to G+ thing. It just amasses all of your stuff and to me, it just kinda leaves people vulnerable. It's not like anyone uses G+ as an -actual- social media site. However, if someone wants to stalk or troll your shit, they have an all-access pass to everything you've done. And even if people don't go that far... You remember that one comment you made? That one. Y'know? The one where you got in a huge argument and just wanted to forget the whole thing? Now it's forever on your page. Unless you wanna delete your comments like a sissy. Or if you don't enable sharing to begin with, which doesn't allow people to reply to or rate your comments. Wow. Sooooo social.

Also, what's with getting rid of the character limit? As someone who tends to type a ton (as you can tell from this post, I'm sure,) I've always felt really limited by the 500 character limit, but I realize why it was there. To keep wall-o-spam and ASCII posts out of it all. To make the site cleaner and easier to use. To be able to browse comments without having to weed through the attention seekers posting copious amounts of text. That's all out the window now, though. Good job with that, Google. Really making some brilliant improvements.

Yeah, I have no idea what they were thinking. Well, actually, they were probably thinking about money. One thing I'm sure they weren't thinking about, however, is user interface. Unfortunately, we're basically stuck with it, regardless of the fact that everyone hates the current state of things.

I stand by what I said before in another website. Youtube was at its best in 2005. There, I said it.

Boycotting is a last ditch defense... I don't want to do it, but I don't think that things are gonna get  better.

Tell anyone to migrate to other websites.youtube won't care if huge amounts of people are using youtube still.

If Google starts asking for my real name which I haven't given to them, I may well leave just like that. I'll still use youtube, but I won't sign in. I don't have so many subscriptions that I watch frequently that I can't remember them all xD

I have to say though, despite all their shortcomings and raping of youtube they hit the jackpot with google hangouts. I was anti google+ until I realized that I could talk to all my friends on there without paying for Skype or killing the speed on my computer.

You don't have to pay for Skype to use it tho.

This guy's apparently buddy-buddy with Youtube. Not part of them, but apparently, according to himself, knows some of the higher-ups, or something like that. I dunno, you can probably find more on that on his channel. But, yeah, someone like this making a video might actually garner some consideration. It'd be even better if even bigger names were to say something.

Found this video hilarious, especially the comments.

lmao, viruses and dicks and viruses and dicks... That pretty much sums up the whole situation, doesn't it? Edited by Clover Heart

I would suggest that no one think of Google as a traditional company anymore, as they have gotten themselves into a situation where most of the normal 'rules' of business don't matter anymore and have become irrelevant. They are gradually mutating into a corporation an order of magnitude more powerful than Microsoft ever was. The road can only get rougher from here, folks.

That's actually giving me hope, yeah. Because if they keep this up in the long run, people WILL migrate to other sites.

So, this privilege will only take them so far before other, smaller but more practical sites begin to grow.

Speaking of, I now have Dailymotion. If you ever have an account, look for Mykel Darren.

And oh, that reminds me.

For people who're worried about their real names showing up on YouTube and Dailymotion, all you have to do is use a fake name. Mine on DM, for example, is an extremely modified and shortened version of my real name.

It's also composed of two of my personas' names, respectively yoshi (green with black spikes) and dragon (eastern-type, check DA gallery).

For ponies here who are thinking (or have) moved over to Dailymotion, there's a few groups that might make it easier to identify yourselves, and should ease the transition process a bit. Not sure if this needs a new thread, but anyways...

Can't remember whether Vimeo has a similar type of thing...highly doubt it. Of all the YT alternatives Dailymotion is the only one I consider a serious threat.

In accordance with our Google+ overlords all images must be posted in ASCII

If you've seen the state of the YouTube comments section you know what I'm talking about, it's nothing but genitals and tanks

in ASCII form now. First YouTube then the entire internet will be in ASCII.

Google+ has spoken.

How i see the future of youtube

google will remove the inbox.

everything is on google+

(remember pay to subscribe?)google will limit how many videos you can upload, making you pay for uploading more videos.

(seeing that youtube can do anything they want because millions are using it still and can't find a better alternative that is the same level as youtube.)

If this happen(i hope it does considering what google did to youtube) all the users will leave. hopefully

Another thing I hate is that every time you click on a video, it explains to you that "this is the new commenting system." Like everybody in the whole freaking world doesn't already know this! Like, can't they just do a single notification that you confirm and then it doesn't bug you anymore? It's like, yeah, I get it, Google. You fucked up the comments section. You don't have to keep reminding me like a proud two-year-old who cut up the curtains.

One thing I did notice that they did do right is the ability to edit comments. While I can see where that could go very wrong (people trying to pick fights, editing, then saying "I never said that,") I've always found it really annoying that just because you didn't catch one little typo before you hit "post," you had to copy, delete your post, paste, edit your comment and re-post. Or you could just leave it and look like an idiot. I'm not saying that this makes up for everything they ruined, but if they were to go back to the old system (100% wishful thinking, I'm sure) it would be nice if they kept the option to edit.

Ya, I don't know why more people haven't thought of this. I use fake names all the time. In fact, the only accounts I have that use my real names are Facebook (cuz they're assholes and require it) and my professional Gmail account, on which, I don't sure YouTube. Unless I don't realize I'm logged in... stupid Google. I think people may already have entered their real names and now are worried that they're gonna expose themselves. I'm not sure if Google allows you to change your name. They sure as hell don't allow you to change your gender, I know that. img-2005756-1-dry.png

As much as I detest Google+ don't be one of those morons posting this:

☻/ This is Bob . Copy and paste him

/▌ all over Youtube
/ \ so he can take over and take down Google+

You know how many times I've seen that in the last 5 completely unrelated videos on YouTube? Every single one of them, often copied and pasted over and over again in the same comments section.

That said you don't want to know what else people are posting in the comments section

I'm a man who usually likes change, heck I welcome to change. But if it ain't broken don't freaking fix it! One of the mane (hehe pony punn) reasons I went on youtube was to read the hilarious (and sometimes heartbreaking ones). That's what made Youtube, Youtube. A place diffrent from the social media, a place where people could watch videos and post funny comments!

But now...now it's just the poor man's facebook. To post a comment you have to freaking log into google +, people are posting entire movie scrips, and books. It's so annoying! I just hope Google listens to us and changes it back.

YO! And if any of you people at google are reading this: stop-trying-to-make-google-plus-happen-m
