Is the Royal Guard Inept?

The Royal Guard are there to make the heroes look good. Instead of thinking of them like the Stormtroopers who are the bad guys and are there to be mowed down, they are more like the guys in the red shirts in Star Trek. They're there to make it look like the heroes can't do everything, like the place has some sort of resources or infrastructure, but in the end, they're there to take a phaser blast for the heroes so Captain Kirk can save the day and get the green girl.

Yeah! I think the Royal Guard is there more for decoration and attention purposes rather than protecting the castle. Just like the ones in Buckingham Palace.
