That was the only SH game I haven't played. Simply as I have a PS2 but no WII and shattered memories is like at 70 bucks on the ps2 and the strategy guide is also 70 bucks. Way to costly for me. If anyone has a spare copy

I liked Silent Hill : Homecoming, was the only one I played but, the story always confused me, for most of the Silent Hill games I've seen.

The only game of the series I have put any considerable time into was the first one and wow, did that game have such a haunting atmosphere. It is funny how a console limitation at the time actually enhanced the games eeriness. That game was legit scary. The phone ringing and getting louder as an enemy came closer had so much tension to it and yet, the rest of the game was very quiet. I really wish we could see a horror game like this nowadays. That is the only Silent Hill game I have played.

I love the Silent Hill series! I haven't had the chance to play all the games but I did play SH 2, 3, Origins, Shattered Memories, Homecoming. I loved all of them with the exception of Homecoming (still enjoyed it but to a lesser degree). Very suspenseful, weird games with a unique atmosphere and well written stories. Stories that will make you think. I'd like to give a chance to Downpour and SH4 sometime but I heard they are a bit different from the rest of them. Then again Shattered Memories is nothing like other Silent Hill games either.

on ebay, amazon.co.uk, plus a few other sites I checked. I'm cheap for me anything over 15 bucks is an insult.

Silent Hill is more then a location, it caters to each persons history, fucking with them in ways specific to their pasts. THEY create the monsters themselves, Silent Hill just gives it the flesh and bone to hurt each visitor....

Silent Hill is probably one of the most scariest games that I've ever played, I think it paved the way for other games to show how psychotic scary games can be on a person's psyche.

Seriously this game is probably one of the best Horror Games I've ever played, maybe even the best! As for Silent Hill 3 I got the chills in that church, especially that one certain mirror room...

 

The best Silent Hill in my opinion is the second one though, I loved the riddles, I loved James as a character and on top of that the relation between Maria and Mary... these games are  deep and I love how many thoughts they've put into these. It's also great how these Monsters are manifestations of one's mind that become reality, has some really frightening atmosphere to it, also a nice way to show that you have to face your fears to "wake up from a nightmare", just like in real life.

The Silent Hill series is awesome. So much more immersive and cerebral than other survival-horror series like Resident Evil. It's not just "GRRR, zombiez!!" It takes the darkness inside all of us and makes us play through it.

 

My favorite one is Silent Hill 3. It was my first and I love Heather as the main character. I've played SH2 and SH: Origins, but they don't have the same impact for me. Crazily, I have a copy of the first SH but have not played it yet.

I just played Shattered Memories, Homecoming, Downpour, and the HD Collection (Silent Hill 2 and 3), so I don't have much experience with it as much as I'd want to. I adore Pyramid Head though and I don't harbor hatred for Homecoming like everyone else. I plan on playing more in the future when I get the chance.

Just got Shattered Memories from retail last Sunday, which I tried for the first time this afternoon. I have a couple remarks, though I'm not sure about them because I haven't gone very far (just got to the high school, about to head for the gym).

 

. Those monsters' cries... I've read somewhere that each type represented a facet of the protagonist's personality, but the creepiest part is their cries. They're so human, the screams of a scared child. That got me thinking - could that be the sound of... your daughter? or other children who died?

. After dying about - oh, I don't know, five times, eight times, ten times? - in any case, I noted that there were practically no monsters left until the very end. Is it a glitch, or does the game have this system where it progressively/suddenly removes monsters so you can finish a nightmare? EDIT: confirmed by a Skype friend - while everyone here ignored me. In case anyone's curious, yes, the game does give you a chance to finish, taking away monsters as you die over and over.

 

My hands were trembling at the end, not because of the horror, but because it was so fucking hard to throw off those monsters. Didn't help that my wiimote has always had a bit of a lag - I press the 'Z' button to run, and a second later I start running.

Also annoying, every time I respawned at the nightmare's beginning, my flashlight was on. You're trying to hide and evade monsters dumbass, stop turning that thing on and drawing all attention to you!

I love the Silent Hill franchise! I started with SH2 and loved every second of it! It was one of the greatest stories that I experienced in a game and the atmosphere was so dark and creepy. I always dreaded walking around the town at night. I have also played SIlent Hill 1, 3 and Downpour. So far 3 is my favorite next to the second one and then finally the original. Downpour was decent until I watched TwinPerfect's analysis on it and now it's "meh" for me. Oh by the way I encourage anyone who loves SH to check out TwinPerfect's channel on YouTube because they have a lot of interesting videos of analyses on what the monsters mean and insightful information.

Why did you have to play the HD collection? lol

There are SO many problems with it it's not funny. Glitches, stupid re-casted voice acting (granted you can opt for the old voices for SH2 but you can't for SH3) and techical problems galore! 

 

You should watch this it's funny and insightful.
