I've played 1 through 4 and it's still one of my favorite series, at least until homecoming where it just seemed to start taking a noes dive into mediocrity. But aside from that, I still love 2, I think it has some of the best characters, captivating music, gripping atmosphere; it's just an all around great experience.

Did anyone ever play Book of Memories? Or are we not suppose to talk about that one?

Nah you can still talk about it. I would actually be interested to hear other people's thoughts about it because I myself, have barely heard anything about the game so if you have more info please enlighten us. lol

  • 1 month later...

(Hope this doesn't get ignored like my previous post)

So I finished the game today (yay!) and was mildly creeped out that that doctor's report reflected my feelings with such accuracy. I knew it was analyzing my behavior all this time, however, and was glad the report didn't go beyond my console.

But

...having gotten the messages about the "problem child" at the mall, when I received the policewoman's message with Cheryl's photo, something clicked in my head.

Is this "problem child", stealing stuff from the mall again, Cheryl?

Would make sense that her eyes were so sad the security officer decided to look the other way. It would also explain that she was sent to a therapist with the most... unusual methods.

Silent Hill 3 is the peak imo, it went down hill from there. Some people liked 4 I didn't

I bought a psp and a copy of shattered memories and it ended up being in total barely more than getting shattered memories on ps2. Damn the game is good on psp. Anyhow my character stares at bottles and cans if booze and all the sex stuff in the game. Yeah the psychology report is gonna be accurate. ;)

There's still much of the series I need to play. I've beaten 1 several times over (only thing I haven't done in the game is get the laser weapons past the handgun cuz I never cared about getting the high ranks. You can destroy most of the game with the fire axe and katana anyway.), watched 2 on Youtube but still wanna play it, beaten Shattered Memories which had been my first and then I've also beaten Downpour which I think is my favorite in the series so far.

That was probably the most convoluted sentence I've ever written and I apologize for it.

I'm probably just gonna spring for PS2 versions of the other games in spite of their price cuz I've heard some pretty terribad things about the HD Collection and it doesn't even have SH4 on it.

I have played the first one and instantly became one of the biggest fans of the series.

The atmosphere, the characters, the story, the endings, the bosses, the enemies!?! Everything screams psychological excellence!

Oh, and let's not forget the music, with my all time personal favorite, your not here, the main theme of heather from silent hill 3! :D

Yeah I used to listen to the Silent Hill 2 and 3 OSTs on my Ipod. That track especially. It's a shame more games for Silent Hill that are like the original trilogy haven't come out. Hell I'd be fine if they still had that graphics style. I'm suprised no one ever made a great mod for Silent Hill 1, 2, or 3. Missed oppurtunity.

Now I wanna be your roommate

Annoying part is that I completely forgot how to save the game, after over a month of not touching the console. Knowing my photos were being saved at least, I assumed the game auto-saved. Mere minutes later, looking up how to get through that nightmare, I re-discovered I should've used my smartphone to save.

Worse, I was at the very last nightmare

and didn't know I was supposed to get killed to make progress, so

I went back to the main menu as soon as I first died and left for dinner.

Result: I had to go through three hours' worth of gameplay AGAIN (though it lasted a little over two hours because I knew what to do), only to find out that

the previous "loss" actually had been a "win"

so I had left for nothing. <_<

beaten Shattered Memories which had been my first

Whaddya think about my suggestion that the enemies' cries could be Cheryl's screams(*), and that the "problem child" shoplifter may be her as well?

(*) Or are the Raw Shocks' screams are just stock audio, from a totally different origin?

I've never heard the idea of the enemies' cries were Cheryl's screams. Wouldn't surprise me though.

It's been a good while since I last played it but I'm almost certain the shoplifter is indeed Cheryl. Many of the audio clips from the phone seemed to be Cheryl's doings in general including the party in the woods.

Well I'm a guy so..

(my profile is for purposes of being canon, and also I really don't care about what people put as gender online.)

Ha I know that feel. I only lost an hour or so of gameplay (maybe 90 mins). I lost all the stuff about meeting Cheryl's friend, the teenage girl. and the cheerleader, and the stuff at the school, and the photos, and well actually a tonne of cool plot elements. Annoying thing is SM is a game you want to play perfectly because it's silent hill yet you feel like you're part of the experience since you can make changes to the characters etc through actions in the game.

I finished 1&2 over the last couple months and I'm working on SH3 right now. I'm really enjoying them(even if the PC ports are an ass to get up and running)

Yeah the PS2 version is the way to go if you got the console. Trying to play SH with a keyboard is also kind of a bitch, but it's better than nothin'

I'm using a USB Xbox360 controller and it's working pretty well.

Another issue is that my wiimote (or games) lag a lot, so it's often hard to get rid of Raw Shocks (though it works just fine backwards, but less when I swing sideways or forward).

I've never really watched the movies or played the other games. Until I got Shattered Memories, I only knew the franchise from a song (namely Room of Angels, and later Acceptance from SM), screencaps, and comments to Room of Angels telling the movie's story.

I should look into it, after I find me some Star Trek VOY and DS9 episodes first of course. XD

The first 3 SH games are the best. I'd say go with SH1 first, either ps3/psp download or emulator because the original game costs an insane amount these days, since SH3 is a direct sequel to 1 so I'd say play it after. You can skip SH2, it's confusing, has the worst gameplay and is ridiculously over-rated. SM is very tame, SH1 and 3 are scary!

Also voyager is my favourite star trek so kudos ;)

What did everyone think of Silent Hill Downpour? Having been looking at my YouTube channel I found a video I made on it back around when the game came out, feels like a looong time ago to me. If anyone fancies watching a 20+ minute long vlog of some random Engilish guy pontificate about how Downpour stacks up to the Silent Hill series as a whole, with analysis of the games themes and shortcomings this video is for you.

The first three Silent Hill games were the best. What followed was pure garbage.

Even the movie was good, filling elements from the first two games, the best part being Pyramid Head. He looked awesome.

The New one for 2015 looks AMAZING

While I haven't played many of the games in the series I can't necessarily agree. Shattered Memories and Downpour both told a far better story than the original game did. The original was a very good foundation to start with at the very least and is faster-paced than the other two.

Pyramid Head's existence in the movie wasn't even explained though. It was entirely fan service and shock factor. If you're gonna give a reason why the movie is good at least give a reason that doesn't contradict the qualities that make the film as good as it is. :P

Heh, I just thought they nailed the performance with Pyramid Head, he was brutal, strong and very similar to the one in SH2, with the exception of the shape of the pyramid.

Oh absolutely. I won't argue that point. He did the Pyramid Head role more perfectly than the original in SH2! :P
