Celtore 2,770 December 11, 2013 #8 Share December 11, 2013 (edited) Linux guy, reporting in! I'm a pretty big fan of Linux myself. I haven't been using it long in comparison to other users (4 years), but I'm quite happy with manjaro at the moment. Might go back to arch eventually, this was the only version that could install nicely with my odd partition setup. (sda holds /home and /var, sdb has a windows partition and the bootloader, sdc holds the root directory and boot. I'll fix it someday ) Edited December 11, 2013 by Celtore
CMQuickfireTK 751 December 11, 2013 Author #9 Share December 11, 2013 Awesome! I haven't played with partitioning TOOO Much, but I will with my next machine! I wouldn't necessarily recommend backtrack for regular usage myself... It's good if you want to get into penetration testing and learn about computer security, but it's pretty much designed with only that in mind rather than providing a user experience. It comes with a whole bunch of tools for that sort of thing rather than providing a set of applications you would normally use for desktop purposes. Mint would be a lot nicer to grab if you want to get started. It's pretty user friendly and comes with most of the stuff that desktop users want by default. I just wish they would stop being lazy with the default wallpaper. Mint 9 Isadora's default wallpapers were so nice in comparison... Gone Airbourne 21,977 December 11, 2013 #13 Share December 11, 2013 I have Ubuntu dual booted with Win7 Ultimate on my laptop and am slowly learning to use it. Linux is amazing another great distribution is Linux Backtrack.
long gone 8,929 December 11, 2013 #14 Share December 11, 2013 Not right now, but I have used Ubuntu before. Right now Linux is a "plan B" in case Microsoft does do as the rumors say and they kill off the desktop (and Windows Phone fails, in which case I'll go to Android.) Untitled Goose Q 5,137 December 11, 2013 #17 Share December 11, 2013 Another Linux user reporting in. Mint 15 MATE at the moment, might change when I get my new laptop. Sometimes I run a Windows 7 VM, for the things that WINE can't do yet. Which are rather few. And I have an Android phone. Tech Pony 64 December 11, 2013 #18 Share December 11, 2013 (edited) I've been using Linux since most of you have been in diapers. I'm a Linux Sysadmin by trade... and seriously whats up with everyone using Ubuntu and its derivatives??? It's really a horrible distribution. CMQuickfireTK 751 December 11, 2013 Author #19 Share December 11, 2013 but I'm not using ubuntu and it's derivatives... I'm using Crunchbang which is based on Debian, and I've been playing with Arch on several other machines, and I've been playing with slackware as well, though it's not on any machines atm. although I am curious? What does backtrack have that Kali doesn't? I'll be on the #! forums if you want me.
Tech Pony 64 December 11, 2013 #20 Share December 11, 2013 I wasn't specifically saying you use buntu z77, but if you look... there are quite a number of people who use ubuntu or mint in this thread. As for the difference b/t backtrack and kali... read this: http://www.kali.org/news/kali-linux-whats-new/
CMQuickfireTK 751 December 11, 2013 Author #21 Share December 11, 2013 (edited) Ah, makes sense. frankly though... Tech Pony 64 December 11, 2013 #22 Share December 11, 2013 Why? So Canonical and Amazon can track you the same way that Microsoft does? So you Canonical can declare bankruptcy within the next couple years? They've still yet to turn anything close to a profit.
CMQuickfireTK 751 December 11, 2013 Author #23 Share December 11, 2013 Never heard of fixubuntu.com ? I always did that when I installed ubuntu on a VM. Still though, M$ isn't any better. I'll be on the #! forums if you want me.
Tech Pony 64 December 11, 2013 #24 Share December 11, 2013 I never payed Ubuntu much attention because no one uses it commercially. The money in Linux is in RedHat/CentOS.
CMQuickfireTK 751 December 11, 2013 Author #25 Share December 11, 2013 I know of ONE place that uses ubuntu commercially... but I'm trying to convince them to use something like Debian. but yeah.. I agree that RedHat and CentOS is where the money is. I'll be on the #! forums if you want me.
