First off, it's not a plague doctor mask. This is a masquerade mask, from the masquerade patents of long ago. I wear it due to an unfortunate... Accident... That occurred when I was a small filly.

It was an accident due to a fire. So many ponies hurt... So many killed... I couldn't save them all... I hurt my own face in the process, which is why I wear this mask. To hide my injury, and at the same time hide my shame.
