epzik8 92 January 17, 2014 Share January 17, 2014 I discovered Friendship is Magic in March of 2012 through a YouTube clip of "Hurricane Fluttershy", then I started to get involved in the fandom last April, and then I declared myself a brony in November. But while I've seen countless partial clips of real episodes, I've never watched one all the way through. I think that's because I like most of the fan works more than the actual show. In fact, my discovery of the fanon stuff (mostly the videos, pictures and fanfictions) in April is what made me change my opinion of the show and the brony phenomenon from negative to positive, and made me start to become a fan myself. So I've never made any conscious efforts to watch a full episode of Friendship is Magic. This is just now occurring to me and I'm just wondering what you all think of this.
Moonlight 7,291 January 17, 2014 Share January 17, 2014 I believe that could become a bit problematic if you're talking to someone about specific episode and you have only seen clips. I can understand skipping the intro and outro, but entire episodes? And you haven't even seen a single episode all the way through? Meh, do what you will, I just find it a bit odd. 3 matching setups with my bff pathfinder
Naive Wolf Josh 93 January 17, 2014 Share January 17, 2014 Eh, I can somewhat understand. Take Star Wars fans for example, some people the movies, and some people like only the expanded universe. So yeah, I don't think it's that strange. "Oh dear, I'm way past strange. I think I'm probably incredible." - The Doctor
Scootalove 10,692 January 17, 2014 Share January 17, 2014 I think I do understand, some people don't sit through a 22 minute episode that they would hate. It's not really strange to me, unless you just decide not to watch a full episode. Credit: Moony © Forum FAQ Forum Rules
FNGRpony 658 January 17, 2014 Share January 17, 2014 If i may i use go out of my way not to watch a whole episode. As if it would magically keep me from being a fan of the show."oh if i skip the last couple of minutes i'm not a fan." it was the silliest thing. The slow descent in ponies from the mov series, to fluffle puff, to show clips... to watch 50 percent of a show, to 70, to "I don't care I can't stop!" take it at your own pace. but it will get you sooner or later. 1 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JvTYhrZUgYY flight to the finish. i continue to improve,
Nature's Spell 526 January 17, 2014 Share January 17, 2014 Interesting. It's not weird but it's different and you should watch a few episodes. You might find it deepens your interest in the show. In the end the show is the source, even if people express their enjoyment in different ways. It's like loving a location but never visiting it. FlitterFlutter 1,595 January 17, 2014 Share January 17, 2014 I would recomend that you watch a full episode. I think that it will help you understand what the show is about. But i am not saying that it is bad. Credit to Kiki
hawkflame 3,315 January 18, 2014 Share January 18, 2014 Personally, it strikes me as weird that someone would consider themselves a brony if they have no interest in the one thing that the entire fandom revolves around. To me, that's kind of a base element of being a brony. 2 Sig by Thunderstorm Check out my Rarity fansite!
ghostfacekiller39 23,879 January 18, 2014 Share January 18, 2014 I mean, I think the term brony should be open for anyone who's not a prick about ponies I can see where it'd be a bit of a problem, though, when it comes to being able to fully embrace the fandom, but I personally think that it shouldn't hinder one from being able to call themselves one. I'll accept ya anyway I'd recommend watching at few full ones myself, though, maybe even the whole series, to be able to understand what the fandom is all about, but I ain't gonna force nothin' on ya, man You do what makes you happy; fandoms are for fun, not strict worships and set procedures and protocols. 1 He who is Positively Obsessed With All Things Rarity!!! Shift 4,274 January 18, 2014 Share January 18, 2014 Well, if you don't like the episodes that's okay, I won't judge you, but it does kinda strike me as odd. Have the courage to think and act on your own. And have the courage to disobey.
Judgement 445 January 18, 2014 Share January 18, 2014 (edited) I started off the same way. I was able to watch bits and edits on youtube, but then when I opened up Netflix I got the feeling "Eh... Should I REALLY commit to this?". I scrolled through the episodes just checking the thumbnails and I did that for 3 nights until I worked up the courage to actually watch the show. It is really good. (besides the intro/outro. That theme song is freaking annoying in my opinion.) Just because you like MLP:FIM doesn't mean you have to watch the show. A fan is a fan, whether you just look at fan work or youtube edits or actually watch the show. Edited January 18, 2014 by Judgement 1 Tom V.S. Boulder: Who will win? WWAPD 126 January 18, 2014 Share January 18, 2014 I guess it's fine not to watch the show. But I do think that a lot of the fan-made content is a lot more enjoyable after having watched the show. I mean, if you can't get through a full episode, then don't watch it, but if you have the ability, then for sure watch at least a few episodes. Rarity is best pony. Enjoy violent fan fiction? Couldn't you be barony with all the other stuff?I made up a barony tier list For fun Just for fun. Not to be taken seriously I had 18-20 ways to be a barony and I'm sure that's nothing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JvTYhrZUgYY flight to the finish. i continue to improve,
PartyWithPinkie 189 January 20, 2014 Share January 20, 2014 I really don't see how you can consider yourself a Brony if you haven't watched the full episodes... It seems a bit odd to me. How do you know what happens? Do you just read the synopsis? What about the 2-parter episodes where big events happen? What about the season 3 finale when Twilight earns her crown? :/
Zygen 6,066 January 20, 2014 Share January 20, 2014 Well, honestly i don't think it matters if you are considered a brony or not, its just a label really. The more important part is if you like ponies or hate them. In my definition idk if i'd say you would be a brony, but if you want to be addressed as one i'm ok with it. I do find it a bit odd i won't lie that you don't watch an entire episode ever, especially with how good some are, but i guess its cool. Its just very different i suppose, but nothing wrong with being different. Thanks to Gone Airbourne for the awesome sig! Motion Spark 7,811 January 20, 2014 Share January 20, 2014 I don't find it odd, I actually became a brony because the fandom seemed so awesome, that made me pick up interest in watching the real show. I, however, do not take part in fanon things. But I can understand why you became a brony because the products this fandom can produce are over the top! This fandom is full of creative people!
