Well EQG to what I heard is not cannon. 

 

Also isn't Twilight more in love with the human Flash, not the pony one? I mean they may have the same name and other stuff, but we are dealing with possibly 2 different people/pony. Twilight has no real interaction with him. So no real feeling of love for this one.

Well... I suppose Twilight didn't see him so often... And sometimes if you don't see your crush that often, you stop crushing on them... She may not have thought about him at all from EQG to now and thus decided she doesn't have a crush any more... People have fleeting crushes all the time... Who's to say ponies can't?

Rewatch the scene, we never see exactly who he's nodding at, if anything, due to the fact that Cadence last spoke before he nodded, he was nodding at her, not Twilight. There, I just solved the thread.

 

ANYWAY, on the topic of whether or not EQG is canon, well, according to a tweet from meghan mccarthy you can choose whether or not to consider EQG canon, since, also according to that tweet, the show will never acknowledge the movie's existence (fortunately), even tho in a previous tweet she said it is canon which is bizarre.

I guess she just went "fuck it" and decided to let the people who despise it pretend it doesn't it exist and those who love it pretend it does. I dunno about her, but personally if a lot of fans of my work were wanting to consider one of my newest entries into my story non-canon I'd have to ask myself if something was seriously wrong with it. That'd be a pretty big red flag, to say the least.

 

Assuming I didn't already know why, that is.

It takes time for a crush to develop. Twilight barely knows him and certainly doesn't know anything at all about him, for it to be a crush

Well if Meghan had nothing to do with Flash appearing, then I guess it was smth like that:

It could be that Twilight's sexual preference is towards other mares, given Equestria's ridiculously large female to male ratio. However, that's just me at a common fanon perspective.

 

The writers could just wanted to prove Flash Sentry exists but he isn't acquainted with Twilight. Thus proving Equestria Girls wasn't canon.
