Page.Turner 940 January 27, 2014 Share January 27, 2014 *heaves a great sigh* Are so many bronies ignorant to what goes on in their own fandom community? I'm sorry, everyone, but this isn't just a case of "we're special and different and break social norms! Yay us!" There have been blatant issues within the fandom since it first began. It started off as harmless haters who didn't like the fact that bronies were males who harvested joy for a children's cartoon, we all know that, but it's gotten way out of hand. Every fandom has its group of people who represent the fandom in the wrong way, thus, creating a biased stereotype that inflicts everyone. Like furries; everyone assumes automatically a furry has some sick animal lust (beastiality fetish) just because they enjoy anthropomorphic animals or identify part of their souls/personalities as an animal instead of a persona (human). Delve even deeper, and you have outright inner fandom wars because of nasty porn and fetishes. The same goes for bronies. Believe it or not, this fandom is not all sunshine and rainbows filled with boys/men of good intentions and moral standards. You have your fetish bronies, your anon hate bronies, your self-entitled bronies, your "special snowflake" bronies. You even have bronies who would go so far as to send death and rape threats to their OWN KIND because their opinions are not the same. We have bronies who hack people's computers and post other people's info online in order to help other people bully and harass them. Yes, I know, every fandom has people like this so bronies are no exception. And that is the fact: BRONIES ARE NO EXCEPTION! There are good things in every fandom and bad things. It just so happens that the bad things about bronies are the most seen because these people are loud about it. I don't identify as male or female on this website, but no matter what gender I was, I would never publicly identify as a brony simply because it would put a black mark on my name Not every brony is like this, I know, believe me. But I would rather keep it to myself (because it's not important anyway and is in no way anyone's business what TV shows I watch) than have people whispering behind my back. It's inevitable. This reminds me of the Holocaust. just sayin... I'm sorry to say that this is a very ignorant statement and it would probably be in your best interest to retract it. To compare the plight of the Jewish people (as well as many others targeted during Hitler's reign) to a fandom getting death threats is entirely trivializing that point in time. Very disrespectful. 3 ...
Sky Cutter 294 January 27, 2014 Share January 27, 2014 (edited) I'm sorry to say that this is a very ignorant statement and it would probably be in your best interest to retract it. To compare the plight of the Jewish people (as well as many others targeted during Hitler's reign) to a fandom getting death threats is entirely trivializing that point in time. Very disrespectful. actually I was referring to pre-WWII German propaganda which partially led to the holocaust, in pre-WWII era German news papers (such as Der Stürmer (link to more info on Der Stürmer: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Der_St%C3%BCrmer#Racist_caricatures)) they would blame the Jews for corrupting German culture, lives, economy and so on. portraying them (the Jews) as hook nosed creatures (which they are not) with disfigured bodies (which they are not, too). I did not intend nor wish to compare this to the senseless murder of Jews. My intention was to compare the propaganda to the circulating picture in question. however I can now see how that can be taken the wrong way, and will correct that error. Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I would also like to apologize to anyone I may have offended. Zekromic 1,054 January 27, 2014 Share January 27, 2014 (edited) sending death threats is the easiest thing to do, like I'll do: Lauren, I'm gonna kill you for ruining manhood in the world. See? I made a death threat, thing is, these are usually send by pubescent kids and believe they achieved something for their cause, because in the end, they're all talk, no balls. Anyone can act tough and threatening behind the monitor, but in real life, they're this: so don't take those death threats seriously Edited January 27, 2014 by Zekromic

AppleGearRising 526 January 27, 2014 Author Share January 27, 2014 I would quite honestly chalk it all up to general ignorance. The haters seem to be the ones who have absolutely no clue what the fandom is about or why it even exists, they only see the immense glorification of a TV show with a target demographic of little girls and for one reason or another find that fact weird. The effect this perception has on people is twofold; it alienates them from us when they learn about our affiliations with the show which automatically puts them in a position to perceive us as being weird in a bad way, secondly - left unchecked this myopic way of thinking leads to unnecessary bouts of hate and abuse being thrust in our direction which in turn do little more than spread misery and inspire negative feelings towards others. That's not to say that we are completely undeserving of criticism as to quote *StarGazer* bronies get a lot of stick from "trying to insert pony stuff into everything, even where it doesn't make sense to do so" which I do agree to an extent is unnecessary and in some cases even annoying, however the misconceptions that have come with the spreading of pony material on the internet are far more significant and are, in my opinion, little more than hateful and are completely unjustified. 1 Avatar courtesy of @Unicorn Coffee ~My very special somepony~ <3 "Whenever there is a meeting, a parting is sure to follow. Casbyness 48 January 27, 2014 Share January 27, 2014 Same reason Celestia didn't explain Philomena to Fluttershy - for the trollz. The first two powers of the Idiocy skill tree are: 1) "Compulsive Mockery" (auto attack, mental type, mandatory): when noticing someone walking in the street wearing (say) a pink top hat, player will run past the person and shout "hey you! You have a pink top hat!" because having a pink top hat is weird and wrong to the player's tiny mind. Ensure running take place at safe distance to avoid being chased, or surround self with like-minded idiots for protection. Attack does no damage. 2) "Trolling" (mental type, optional, becomes available if Wisdom stat goes negative with intelligence greater than 3): after noticing that Compulsive Mockery is an effective Taunt against other players of intelligence 6 or less, player can upgrade to directed/deliberate use of the power to gather notoriety and/or fame. Minor short-duration buff to Self Esteem and peer acceptance within specialised Idiot guilds. Becomes redundant after player installs brain of class 2 of higher (at which point the Maturity skill trees open up and "I'm Better Than This" becomes available for slotting). They are aggressive. Because of this, people decry them as sad, insecure, pathetic, stupid, assholes, or whatever other insults people are using in this thread. I spy a striking similarity here. Is "death to all bronies" excessive and ridiculous? Sure. Are any of you completely and totally innocent of ever putting some overblown hate out on the internet? I very much doubt it. Get off your high ponies, people. Many here are being just as hateful as the people they criticize for being hateful. Food for thought.

SomariFeyWright 776 January 28, 2014 Share January 28, 2014 I've been around the internet to at least gather the basic understanding that this is more than simply disliking a fandom for being opposed to society's viewings of masculinity and femininity. I've seen some really nice people around the internet talk about their general dislike of bronies and it hurts me every time. But the fact of the matter is, there is a very loud and hateful side of our fanbase that, unfortunately, we can't control. There are hateful, spiteful bronies out there who think that anyone who doesn't like MLP is nothing but an ignorant prick just as they tend to view us. There are ignorant, cruel bronies out there, and though they are a minority, they are unfortunately what those outside the fandom tend to notice. Yes, many haters ARE ignorant assholes but at the same time, many have seen a less-than-pleasant side of our fandom we don't choose to acknowledge, and for good reason. Many of the louder and harsher bronies have left awful impressions on those outside of the fandom, and it sickens me, because there are such great bronies around here. 2 Awesome signature made by Tromino. hawkflame 3,310 January 28, 2014 Share January 28, 2014 Am I really the only one who thinks makes *Total* *Fucking* *Sense*? Everyone else in this thread seems to focus on victimhood. I used to think the same way, that it was all because people are ignorant, they don't understand, etc. And I think it's still partly true. But we as a group need to look at our own behavior. Yeah, a lot of the times the hatred is unjust. But sometimes they think we're assholes because their experience with us is that we're *assholes*. And we need to be aware of this. And not just aware, but proactive and vocal in doing something about it. And by vocal I don't mean distancing ourselves vocally, saying that we're not like those other jerks, but call out the behavior for what it is and stamp it out. Yeah, this is something that's been a major pet peeve of mine in terms of the fandom. We can be so insular that any problem someone has with bronies is never on us. And that's not healthy. What comes of being so insular is that sometimes we never realize when we're doing something wrong. The lack of respect for boundaries I've seen in some bronies is astonishing. What happened to Pinkiepony on Tumblr is the worst of it, but the complaints I've heard in other cases (anecdotal, I admit) make me rather embarrassed for the fandom.. We need to stop pretending everything is someone else's problem. 4 Sig by Thunderstorm Check out my Rarity fansite!

We need to stop pretending everything is someone else's problem. I won't lie, this hadn't come to my attention at the time of my creating this topic and I had no idea that such characters were not only a part of the fan base but that they were also partly responsible for the misrepresentation of our community back when it all started. I haven't been a part of this place or this fandom for very long and I've still got an incredible amount to learn about it, it doesn't surprise me that even in a fandom such as this; that there are still bad people but to discover that there were/are such vile individuals among us sickens me to the very core of my being and makes me feel deeply ashamed that they would be associated with us and that we should be branded with such a disgusting face is exactly the reason as to why I feel the way I do. I have to apologise to people like Tinker Tunes for being blind to the true nature of our reality and for not having even considered the possibility of such individuals even existing within this fan base purely because the idea was something I did not want to face, however even in light of this new information I still stand by what I said before; I still firmly believe that the people within THIS community are far finer people than the ones that have tainted our image in the past and I still believe that the fact that we are targeted as a whole for what others have done is not something we should take lightly. To reiterate what I said previously; I haven't been here for very long, but already I love this community, I love the people that are here and I love the brilliance of these people and how MLP has helped to better their lives now this may sound like a blind love and maybe it is, maybe I am even going so far as to defend some of the characters that have been responsible for placing us in the predicament we are in now but even so I don't believe for a second that everyone should be condemned for the actions of a minority, whether or not these people are a minority remains to be seen but for now I am branding them as such for the sake of everyone here. Now I know this doesn't concern me specifically but; for our own race to reach the point where someone is discriminated against in the 21st century simply for liking something that may be considered to be out of the ordinary saddens me greatly, to learn that Bronies are afraid to express themselves publicly because such prejudice exists in our world makes me livid beyond my own comprehension. I realise that this comes back to the whole 'Bronies being too overt and sticking pony stuff over everything' side of things but make no mistake; that is NOT what I am trying to defend here, expression of oneself of one's opinion is a basic human right, a basic human right that many people would deny us even in this day and age and you expect me, no, expect US to simply ignore and accept this?? I cannot and will not condone this, I do not believe that we should allow ourselves to be treated differently purely based on the things we like much less allow ourselves to be told that we are all going to be put to death based solely on this. This is far more significant than some people seem to realise and we cannot continue to allow for this kind of behaviour any longer. In closing, I feel like I must apologise again; I've always been pre-disposed to stand up for what I care about and if any of what I've said sounds a little bit biased or if It sounds as though I'm proposing that we take forceful action then I'm sorry, I don't ever want any further harm to come to you lot and I don't want anyone feeling bad for what they are simply because we've been tarred with the same brush as the idiotic scum that, hopefully, preceded us. Furthermore; I don't want anyone to start a war over what I've said nor do I want anyone to start marching out there and preaching about our cause because lets face it, it's not worth it and probably won't do us any real good short or long term, all I want is to help alleviate the ignorance on both sides of the fence; theirs AND ours because it DOES exist on both sides and it DOES need to be noticed by everyone. I may be a fool in saying this but; I have faith in everyone, Brony and non-Brony alike, I've never been a cynical kind of person and I've always believed that we as a whole are capable of so much more when we are together. It may be naught but a childish wish but I dream of a world where we needn't fear prejudice, where we needn't fear each other and where we can all work together to help build a future that goes even beyond our own dreams. We are capable of being so much more than we are now, I'll probably die long before my wish comes even remotely close to being fulfilled but the fact that I can believe in such a future gives me hope for us all, a hope that I hope you will allow me to share with all of you. 3 Avatar courtesy of @Unicorn Coffee ~My very special somepony~ <3 "Whenever there is a meeting, a parting is sure to follow.
