gaming Arkham Origins is kinda well...Meh.

I wanted to ask if people are having the same issues if they own this game. In short I love Asylum and City. I beat them on hard mode and had no issues using the basic (and I strongly use that word and you will see why....) counter system and free flow mechanics. I really want to love this game. I'm playing it on hard right now and I was getting more free flow combos than in the previous two games...However! I am sucking at the counter, but knife dodge is easier in this game...You see the issue here? My issue is that this game is inconsistent. I played the other two games and feel the difference. I'm all for making a game difficult, that's not the issue. But when the Killer Croc boss fight is basically the henchmen being the boss fight and Killer Croc running around like a clown, I can't take it seriously.

Anyone have issues with this games combat. You can tell Rocksteady didn't make it.

I've not picked it up since I'm being a cheapskate and waiting for it to drop quite a bit on Steam, also because it's such a divergence from the previous two with Rocksteady giving it up. But that is the reason simple things that shouldn't have been changed much, have been from what I've read. I don't see any other reason for some of the changes other then this company wanted to.

I think any gamers that've played all three Arkham games can agree that Arkham Origins is a step backwards. Rocksteady didn't make this game, and while that may be a turnoff for some, I didn't mind it when I first found out about this game. Though, the changes in the combat system were noticeable.

The counter system can be REALLY finicky at times. I swear that sometimes I hit the counter button, and Batman did jack shit. I've never really noticed differences in the knife dodging system, but I did notice differences in the knife takedown system. I swear that it's more picky than the counter system.

Perhaps something went wrong in development, but I can still play this game and have some fun. Though, for any player who's played the first two games, I'd recommend renting the game or waiting for a price drop or sale.

It's 16 bucks(66% off 50 bucks) on http://www.greenmangaming.com Yes you can activate these purchased games on steam and the sight is 100% legit and safe. It's a UK version of steam and these sales are simply foolish to pass up on. Injustice Ultimate Edition is 75% off

But I digress....

I love this game honesty. It feels new, but the combat is just something that matters because I'm Batman.

EDIT: Died on the same crime mission 3 times. Jesus this is annoying and I'm free flowing like I'm not even touching the controller

Welp, never heard of that site before but here I go on a buying splurge. Was really in need of some new games, in fact I've been browsing deals/cheap games on Steam for the past hour. I'll let you know what I think of combat after a bit.  :squee:

It's not a bad game, miles miles away from it. I'm a veteran at the other two games and it's obvious how clunky the countering is. Because free flowing and combo racking is so much easier in this game. The first boss is a joke and it's Killer Croc, but to be fair it's an actual boss fight unlike Asylum.

This site will coexist with your steam account. You just need to use the activation code to access it via steam.

GreenmanGaming, and in fact a few other sites like Amazon, are great for a number of Steam purchases. If you want to keep it all in one place, then look out for notifications on a game's store page that say "This game requires a free Steam account to play."

Yup, Arkham Origins is definitely a bit of a worse game, but it had a high bar to cross.

Actually, if you want more Batman, that same site I think has Injustice: Ultimate Edition on sale for about $12. That includes a few extras like Batgirl and Mr. Martian.

The boss fights get pretty annoying after a while, especially the Bane boss fights. The constant glitching and freezing really starts to upset you after the game freezing more than once, Warner Bros. Montreal shame on you!

that's one more reason to wait for the complete edition

Only real combat difference is counters don't break out of a mid-attack which is a free-flow issue. And the free-flow is a tad finnicky in that regard but it's easy enough to adapt to it.

And really, your biggest complaint is Croc's fight? What else is to be done with a big hulking beast of low intelligence? If that's a huge problem, I can't imagine how you even made it through Asylum (where all 'boss' fights were Titans, including Joker)...Really, what did you expect them to do with Croc?

Honestly, I can see where the combat got a bit iffy but I'm having a really hard time taking your opinion seriously when you just outright declare the whole game "meh" over one predictable boss fight and a slightly finicky free-flow countering system. You either have ridiculous standards, haven't completed the game (it picks up in a pretty awesome way), or just plain lack perspective. This is a filler title - Rocksteady passed the work off so they could do next-gen stuff - and for filler, it's some high-quality stuff. It's hardly worth the lousy response the game keeps getting from everybody.

@Anti-Villain, to be fair, they were going for a less-devolved Croc here, this being earlier in the timeline. I rather like the look myself. If anything, I'm bummed they swapped out Asylum's badass Scarecrow design for the Mad Hatter again.

This is not a bad game. Far far from it actually, I'm only comparing it to Arkham City which to me is one of the best video game sequels of generation 7. Also this isn't a filler game, it's a game that is doing an origin story(kind of).

It isn't a bad game, more like a pretty less than average disappointment for a series that was doing really well.

I hear they fixed the problems with patches, but arkham city remains the best in the series.

So far, this is my opinion of it after playing for a little bit now. I'm only to the part where you infiltrate the police department, but so far combat has been relatively smooth. Doesn't feel as smooth as City, and the game definitely has some glitching issues which isn't something I ever noticed in City, but not horrible. The "boss" battles so far have been extremely easy though, but I'm sure that's only because I've not faced any real villains yet. The main thing bothering me is the camera in this one, they messed with it for sure and not for the better.

A perfect example of what happens when you outsource a game - they should rename it Batman: Arkham Boringins.

I have one word to describe this game: Filler. It was obviously made to fill the time until Arkham Knight's release. I haven't played it, but I have heard it was pretty buggy and immensely lacking creativity in comparison to the previous games. Which, that's a shame. It was made by a different developing team though so that is another factor. Rocksteady are the master's at these games, so Arkham Knight will be the next huge Batman game and it almost might be the last, since it is their last Batman game. At least with the Arkham name.

@,

Although I would say it would be a perfect timing for a Batman Arkham Beyond game. Get the reference? :b

Then they can release a sequel: Batman & Robin take Arkham.

Actually, no. Never mind.

It is a shame though, we all know that WB will want Batman games still but the best people to make them will have moved on.

@,

I know Arkham Knight will be just as good as Arkham Asylum and Arkham City, simply due to the fact that Origins wasn't made by Rocksteady but was outsourced, which was a shame.

I never played Arkham Origins, but I've watched enough of it to know it was largely a disappointment in light of its predecessors. For me, aside from the game-breaking bugs that came with the game, the story (which I presume is no longer a mystery to anyone) is a tremendous flop. I really liked the idea of Batman taking on a list of assassins hired to kill him in the ice cold winter of Gotham; instead, the developers fell back onto making the Joker the primary antagonist. As great as the Joker is as a villain, it shows a lack of willingness to experiment, to push beyond the standard formula.

Yes, the game was filled B-listers from the Rogues Gallery -- but if you're going to pick them, why not just go whole-hog? Make the story about younger Batman fighting for his life. Had Gotham's streets not been a copy and paste of Arkham City's map, and had the story been more cohesive and not prone to a narrative cop out, you'd have the foundations for a very interesting Batman game.

Alas, all we are left with are the list of bugs and shoddy, uninspired game design.
