Bronies are a religion?

these guys obviously don't know what they're talking about if they mention previous generations the idiots. there is some worship but it's hero worship at best. I also believe a large majority of the fandom doesn't care much for the ethics either. yes they're good and sometimes a helpful reminder but we know this stuff. we just like watching it play out through deep colorful equine characters.

This is a religion? Seriously...I have a trap card for that level of stupid.

Seriously...there's fandoms out there, that have alot more devoted fans then this, but no one seems to see that. I think they just target stuff like MLP, so they get attention. There is no way this is close to being a religion, and I really doubt it'll hit that kind of level. Then again, this is the same kind of stupid that tried to destroy D&D, for being some "satanic religious cult of doom"...

It's definitely a stretch to call this a religion, I know people who are devoted Bronies, but they would never go so far as to believing any of it as real, or to worship it...

I'm not familiar with anypony who takes the show very seriously to the point that it's a religion (maybe I'm not looking hard enough). Perhaps Bronyism could be considered a "way of life" or philosophy like Confucianism?

Wait, you mean I'm not the only one who prays daily to the magnificent Sunbutt in the sky?! Well, I'm actually more of a nightpony so I normally pray to Moonbutt. Tomayto tomahto.*

*If you take this seriously, you deserve to be banished to the moon.

Whoever wrote this article shows a fundamental misunderstanding of bronies fanbases religion humanity as a whole. Did the author even bother to do any research, or just glance over the highly stereotyped perception of bronies and think, "Well, that's proof enough for me!" Talk about a lack of any journalistic integrity.

I don't get how this is any different than the original whovians, trekkers/trekkies, star wars nuts (Sith/Jedi?.. never know what to call them), or any other mass fan groups that have existed pre-internet. Only difference now is fan groups are out of the dark, and in the open.

If anything you'd think there would be a discussion on star trek. It has whole languages, towns, conventions and far more than most other fan groups have ever achieved sitting under its wing.. And in its original form it even had a number of political/ethical lessons that it pushed constantly. (Who can forget the black and white people who fought simply because one side was black/white while the other was white/black?)

I don't see how they're even making the comparison to religion unless they're going by the assumption that religions are akin to being fans of things.. and that doesn't sound like something that would sit to well with any organized religion TMK...

We haven't quite gotten to that point yet, and thankfully so!

I'm on board with this idea. I'll go ahead and get it started.

So... who here thinks religions are all run by fancy rich guys living in mansions with busloads of beautiful women and hundreds of Lamborghinis? Well... I'd hate to break it to you, but they're not. That would be the case in the ideal world, but let's face the facts. Most people who start religions are poor like me.

Consider some of the costs involved:

  • Temple construction, routine maintenance, and operation
  • High bandwidth for worshiping Luna and Celestia en masse
  • A mansion
  • Lamborghinis
  • Women

So, it costs a lot of money to run a church properly. Just remember that a rich church is a happy church. If you want our new church to be happy, consider donating today! I accept Visa, MasterCard, and PayPal.

I'm super serious, you guys. It's going to be called the First Church of Celestia.

I've already found a plot of land to build the temple. It's about 30 acres of frigid, mountainous terrain. It'll be in Northwestern Eucadia. For reference, the construction will resemble Canterlot castle. I'll upload the blueprints in a few months, once I'm done.

Oh, and the first 50 donators who contribute over $2,000 will have their names engraved on the Shrine of Celestia. Come on, guys! I need to buy at least one Lamborghini.

Ugh, no. We aren't a religion, we're just a fandom. Please, saying that we're a religion is just so... weird.

As someone who doesn't have a religion (mainly because I don't know what to believe), I don't want to say that my religion is a show of very cute colorful ponies.

And come on, let's face it, not all of us follow the lessons from the show.

Besides, if we're a religion then Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Star Trek, Star Wars, Sherlock, Doctor Who, and Adventure Time are religions as well, right?

I could see my Sunday mornings now...

"What time is it?!"

"...Adventure time?"

"Nah, man. It's time for church. Don't know what you were thinking."

Sorry, I just had to. Lack of sleep and whatnot.
