Why I'm turning my back on FiM!

Twilight Mist

Recommended Posts

I'm just going to go out and say this: I grew up with G1-2 and at the time I thought it was the coolest thing since Nintendo.  Now I think FiM is the coolest thing since the PS3/slice bread!  Besides think back to when they had the cartoons for Wrestling and MegaMan!  Marketing push, the end.

You can say that G4 is tending to "the clients" needs in the wrong way, but let's think about things in the core run of it all.  Sure we got some creepy people out there, some may be and may no be bronies; but you'll sooner find people looking at the middle ground.

There is a reason it's called G1 and now is G4; sign of age.  I remember watching older animes like DBZ, Sailor Moon, Rurouni Kenshin, Ranma 1/2, InuYasha (for the first couple of seasons) were all hand drawn and special in their own way.  Even with CGI and PC drawing tables for flash you're still drawing by hand just more digitally.

The nutshell: pick and choose just expect no love from some and love from others.

You would turn your back on something great G1 from what I've seen had good villans but the ponies lacked in character but atleast you didn't say something good about G3 also the FIM ponies look better in my opinion I haven't really seen that much of G1 myself but from what I have seen its not as good now if this was G1 transformers I would say that it was better than transformers prime but FIM is better than G1 MLP and many here would agree and the fandom formed because of FIM not G1.

Hey I still like this community it's just I think we're beginning to have a bit too much influence on the show! Take my 9yr old niece as an example. She was just beginning to get into the show but when she suddenly found out about us bronies she suddenly lost interest.

That's just your niece. I babysit young kids around 9 and I have told them I am a brony, and what it means. It just made them like My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic more (especially because the big kids were watching it!) I agree that they shouldn't forget the little ones, but I don't see why the show can't cater us bronies too!

•G1 was handrawn. Badly yes, but that took effort. Anybody can use Flash nowadays.

Emphasis on badly. Also, have you ever been on a site called deviantart? Everyone and their brother can draw shit on pencil and paper. Or I guess on a tablet, with all this new-fangled technology. Same thing.

•G1 had better villians. Terak for example. He was a proper badass.Plus he was actually killed. Something that would never happen in FIM

G1's villains acted like poorly-writted OC villains. Also, King Sombra fucking exploded.

.FIM in my opinion takes itself too seriously. The makers of the G1 show knew that the core audience would be girls so didn't try too hard

Weren't you just talking about the villain being a "badass"?
Also, why are you implying that effort is a bad thing?

Let's be clear. That's exactly FIM's purpose as well. Just to shift as much stock as possible. The problem is the creators have forgot that!

That's right, they actually want to turn it more into an actual goddamned show instead of a marketing tactic. That's a good thing.

.The Brony community itself. With the rise of Bronydom the FIM creators have seemed anxious to please our every whim.If they are not careful Hasbro will begin to turn their core audience away.

Because they now have TWO different target audiences. It's actually smart of them to appeal to both, since it means both audiences are more likely to purchase their merchandise.

Your arguments contradict themselves in so many ways it's laughable.

How does liking a previous generation make me a troll? Just because I don't love everything about our community or the show also doesn't make me a troll!

Because aside from the topic about drug use, it's 90% of what you've talked about on here. It seems like you're throwing around flame-bait on purpose.

I grew up watching all the generations of MLP. G1 is the one I can always go back too, but I won't say it's better than G4. Equestria's got nothing on the dangers of Ponyland though.

Whats so laughable is that this whole fandom takes itself far too seriously and can't take any critism. Seriously Guys it's just a cartoon. Sometimes I worry for some of you guys when FIM finishes!

Well that's your opinion :) if you think that then nobody can stop you... I just find it funny a few weeks ago you were panicking that FIM might be cancelled because the UK wasn't as big a market as the US... you change your mind often don't you?

Since you clearly dislike FIM and the fandom, it begs to question then why on earth are you still here, must only be for negative reasons / to stir up trouble, many people choose to leave the forums / fandom and don't kick up a fuss about it, some dont even post a status about it, you clearly just want the attention.

I don't dislike the Fandom at all I was just pointing what in my opinion are the weaknesses of the show. Every fandom has it's good and bad points. Hey I apologise if I've annoyed anybody!

The thing about G1 that bugs me to death is the awful voice acting.  Pretty much every cartoon made in the 80s had it, though.  The characters just didn't speak in a way that made them convincing.  Sure, they do look pretty gross, but I could get over the art if the audio was better.

Also, there were hardly ever any stallions in G1.  I remember seeing one episode with stallions in it, but they looked exactly like the girls, just with footballs and boats and stuff for cutie marks instead of flowers and hearts.  I always hated MLP (until I saw FiM) because I thought it was really sexist.

Your opinion is perfectly fine, though.  I can understand the love of hand-drawn cartoons over computer-generated ones.  I'm starting to like Disney less for the same reason.

What have you got to be afraid of?

It is okay for you to leave My Little Pony Friendship is Magic, no one is holding you back, but the herd is still growing, and our fandom is the rising star in popular culture. Although I still have my nostalgic moments, for instance the Care Bears Family from the mid-eighties, I now see them as haphazard, blatant commercials using cute characters, with shoddy art and storytelling, some of the care bears and cousins did not have much or any screen time. much less a speaking role, and I so desired more character development, most of the characters overlooked. My Little Pony Friendship is Magic has exceeded it's original purpose, no longer is it made only for young females, neither for the sole purpose of advertising, seriously watch the old eighties cartoons, then you will appreciate the subtlety of FiM, anyway there is nothing wrong with advertising, people have to earn a living, however if you let the limitations of your imagination withhold you from watching something with real substance, you are just joining the mindless, and soulless drones, just living for pay cheques, with no hobbies nor improvement, FiM has become more than a television show, it has become a culture, while ponies and Equestria is on our minds, we still have the flexibility and endurance to excel in other aspects of life, that make us unique and similar, as for me I shall remain a brony, and I will not turn away from them.

Hey now, don't generalize us all into one category. We have extremists like any other fandom, but that doesn't mean we're all like that.

Also, when FiM finishes, we'll still like it. Plenty of fandoms revolve around discontinued shows, mind you.

See, you're setting yourself up for a debate when you felt the need to make a topic about it. If you were to, say, post a status update, far less jimmies would be rustled and this whole shitstorm wouldn't exist.

Even Transformers never had death, until the 1988 movie, and look how big that series is.
Yay go Transformers! I loved the movie, infact, i might watch it again!

Shit, Highlander hasn't had a half decent entry since Endgame in 2001(The Source was released in 2007, but it doesn't count because it's universally accepted as a trainwreck, even just when judged as a movie on it's own and not as a Highlander sequel) but it still has a active and enthusiastic fanbase and a market for merch and collectibles.

After watching several episodes from G1 I've come to the realisation that G1 is better than FIM. Let me explain:

•G1 was handrawn. Badly yes, but that took effort. Anybody can use Flash nowadays.

Hand drawn doesn't = good. I'd rather have a well-drawn Flash-animated show than a poorly-drawn hand-drawn animated show

•G1 had better villians. Terak for example. He was a proper badass.Plus he was actually killed. Something that would never happen in FIM

Sombra says high

Also, when you look into it, Discord is actually a pretty terrifying character, even if he's shown as goofy

FIM in my opinion takes itself too seriously. The makers of the G1 show knew that the core audience would be girls so didn't try too hard

The show takes itself seriously in that it teaches it's audience lessons on friendship, I don't see why this is a problem

I won't deny that G1 doesn't get enough credit, but in all honesty, it just feels like your regular old 80's cartoon. Not a bad show(and it does some pretty cool things), but not really anything to right home about imo
