technology Combining my 1TB with a 2TB, which one is a better method

I ordered a 2TB SATA to add to my 1TB that has Windows 7 and all my data with it of course. Now I am also dual booting Windows 7 with Ubuntu 13.10.(Using Lubuntu interface) Now I can easily install the second drive that's not the issue. My issue is reformatting. I have all my data backed up on a 1 TB external USB 3.0 so I have no issue booting my data in bios mode. I simply want to ask if RAID is my only viable method of having a 3TB HDD? because I LOVE Ubuntu 13.10 and want more data for it. Also have more data for my steam games. So anyone have any partitioning ideas? Because this is something I haven't done. Youtube videos show how easy it is. But RAID is something that is finicky and I am prepared with a data back up.

Any advice would be great =)

EDIT: Or am I better off using a transfer cable?

As mentioned above, the sane option is JBOD. I very much doubt you'd want any level of RAID array with 2 different capacity drives.

I can neither confirm nor deny myself being the cause of electrical related malfunctions. Anyways, you wouldn't happen to have a jar of replacement magic smoke would you?
