An Imperfect Situation.

Welcome! This RP has some rather specific goals and rules so please don't skip ahead - it's important!
 
This RP was born from a desire to see a romance roleplay that didn't fall prey to a number of problems that plague the genre. The goal is simple - to play a detailed, slice of life roleplay which has a more realistic take on relationships - romantic and otherwise. To do this, we will place a number of ponies in a situation designed to eventually harbor romance and other feelings between characters.
 
The catch? We are specifically avoiding the following things:

• 'Love at first sight' - This isn't going to involve simply falling in love after two or three minutes of speaking to each other.
• 'Meta-romance' - "Hey, our characters should hook up" - No! Bad! Roleplay it properly!
• 'Unbreakable bonds' - Characters friendships, loyalties and alliances can change - things get stale if we forget this.
• 'Romance RP pairing syndrome' - I fully expect players to RP among each other as a group, rather than splitting up into designated pairs and forgetting that the rest of the players exist.

Lets make this interesting! Lets have friendships build over time and rivalries bloom from petty misunderstandings! Lets have romance that grows over days and weeks rather than seconds and minutes! Lets have folks adapting - changing their minds and opinions and occasionally maybe realizing that they might actually have made terrible mistakes... trust me, it makes these things so much more interesting!

The Plot.

(AKA - The interesting part.)

 
Aboard a cruise ship, several ponies are caught in a storm at night. Things get chaotic - was magic at work, or just an unlucky time for a storm? Regardless, they awaken on a beach - a fantastic island paradise laden with sandy beaches, palm trees and cliffs. Hidden coves and caves hide beautiful locations and secrets while a towering waterfall cascades into a crystal clear lake.
 
Not only this, but huge crates of supplies - food and drink, alcohol, clothing of all kinds - have also washed up just a little way along the beach... a little hard work and some clever thinking, and they are free for the taking! This might not be a perfect situation - but it is the very best of bad ones. Even if rescue might be weeks away they have everything needed to survive in utmost comfort.
 
How will these strangers react? Given luxury and a pristine island of wonders, how will these ponies cope? It might be a while until they can return home - friendships will have to be built to stave off the loneliness - the one thing that couldn't be packed in a supply crate.

The Rules.

Rule 0 - The DM's word is final. Myself and Scribblegroove will make any decisions that we need to.
 
Canon Era - Sorry, a personal rule. We assume that anything canon goes, and anything that could logically exist beside canon goes. Things that don't fit with canon at all are a no go. That means no Cyberponies, no master assassins, timelords... non-standard races considered and accepted on an individual basis. See Rule 0.
 
No mary-sue / overpowered characters - It's no fun when Jeff the Superpony does everything and leaves everyone else in the dust. See Rule 0.
 
Commitment - Please don't sign up if you don't intend to stick around - it ruins status quo and kills roleplays when players vanish. This RP isn't going to progress at light speed - it might take a while for things to happen sometimes. I'm not asking for a post every hour, but if your not going to be on for a few days, let us know so that we aren't waiting on you. See Rule 0.

 

Quality - Pls no writ lyk dis. It no fun too reed. Also, while this will not be an advanced RP, I expect more than a bare minimum 200 character post as standard. 200 character posts can be useful for quick responses and dialogue, but a normal post should be around 400 - 600 minimum. See Rule 0.

I'd like to join under Nassir. Ill have to come up with some reason why he's on an Equestrian Cruise Line, but im sure I can think of something. Admitably, he's a non-standard race but as Zebra's are canon, im hoping there will be no problems with this. I hope i`ll get accepted, as this is just what I try and look for in a group SOL RP centered around romance. Plus, as this is my new OC, It'll be fun learning some more about him through an RP. I consider myself literate, so the 400-600 word expectancy should be no problem for me.

1.) The boat is sunk and only crates are left behind?

2.) Are there any threats on the island, except from creating enemies within the group?

3.) Is this going to turn into 'Lord of the flies' but with less char/environment/char dilemmas? If so, my OC isn't that suitable.

Yep, nope and nope. Well, hopefully not - I guess anythings possible, but that's not the intention

 

The idea is that its the best possible bad situation: the boat is gone - sunk or otherwise. The island is peaceful, fruitful and luxurious: between it and the supply crates, the castaways have everything they might possibly need.

 

Depending on what feels right, we might introduce minor side plots, but as a general rule its going to be a case of a paradise island.
