music What are your opinions on Slipknot? (Or metal in general)

I'm not a fan of Slipknot.

I'm a huge fan of metal music, though.   I listen to every sub-genre of heavy metal music, with the exception of nu-metal.  I'm not a fan of that.  But everything else, I love.

Slipknot by definition is bastard metal as in not pure metal hell it might as well be ICP with dead skin masks

I understand not liking Slipknot, but don't EVER compare it to ICP. It's nothing like ICP. The one and ONLY similarity between the two is that they treat their fans like family. That's it.

Slipknot has a pretty decent SOUND but their musical content is a mix between okay and terrible. Their recent song has a great mix and tone to it, very raw. The content is also cool, but lackluster in many respects. Metal, in general though, is my favorite. I love progressive metal/djent to death, it's just such a refreshing and constantly moving genre. There's usually something new and amazing to find with djent. :P

I could also argue Death Metal and it's likenesses, as well as jazz are the few genres actually pushing the boundaries of guitar, and it's associated music.

Metal is good genre, YOu have bands like Slipknot which is much harder, and then you have great bands like Dream Theater, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Yes, GNR, and Motley Crue. Metal is easily my favorite genre of music \m/\m/

RIP Ronnie James Dio, Dimbag Darryl, and the hundreds of others! \m/\m/

Slipknot comes on every so often whenever I'm listening to my Korn radio station on Pandora, and I like it. But I really can't tell if something is heavy metal or death metal or whatever. It's kinda all the same to me.

Slipknot is not death metal but yeah i like it all the same.

Lol slipknot?

Better would be Opeth, DIO, Gojira, or Mastodon.

Personally, I'm a bigger fan of progressive metal, as I'm big into prog rock and stoner rock.

Dude i love all those bands  :D

I can't say that I'm a fan of Metal, Death Metal, or Death Core. It doesn't sound like music to me. It just sounds like angry people yelling.

Well probably if you're listening to some of the more pop/generic end of it. People tend to not listen past the vocals. There are a lot of amazing bands that have such technical and musical genius that are ignored because the vocalist might have un-cleans.

Slipknot? Pretty "meh" to me. Their live performances are pretty nice for sure, but musically it is not my thing. Too much yelling/singing about negative stuff, too little message in lyrics and riffs are pretty boring for me when compared to what other bands have to offer.

I can't say that I'm a fan of Metal, Death Metal, or Death Core. It doesn't sound like music to me. It just sounds like angry people yelling.

There are bands that are not really about screaming, metal is wide genre. Crom (very little known band) for example uses clean vocals (With only one song having some growls in the background) But I understand why can someone dislike death metal/ deathcore (I myself dislike most of bands lol)

I like a couple of Slipknot songs only a few though. I generally like bands like Iron Maiden, Deftones, Operation Ivy, Rise Against and others

Mostly Heavy metal, hardcore punk, ska, hard rock, grunge, alternative etc.

Not really for me. But I totally understand why people like it. I absolutely hate it when people trash a genre that they don't like. Just don't listen to it, it's that simple.

First, you ask if I like Slipknot. I can´t say that I am a big fan but their style of performance, with the mask´s and the overalls,is really cool.

Second, you ask if I like metal in general. This I will clarify with a poetry i wrote,40 min´s ago.

[Metal ruins in my wains. Dubbel bass drums beats in my heart. I see the screams, the pain and wild child's creating art. I may not be catholic in the morning or satanist at night. Yet I am willing to put up for a fight song. Because the freedom call whispers deep, deep inside of me.So please if this isn´t your cup off tee,Don't step in my way because I want out to be free!]

(Gold star to you if you can list all the bands and songs I hide in the text)

Should have mentioned this too. There are tons of bands that don't just do unclean vocals. Some that don't at all. TesseracT's "Altered State" and Intervals' "A Voice Within" are perfect examples of mind boggling amazing music, and stunning clean vocals. Edited by VigilSerus

Metal isn't all people yelling, Bands like Nightwish have classically trained opera singers, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Deep Purple, These are all metal bands that don't "Scream." It's o to not lie some music, I'm just saying maybe give it a chance :)

Slipknot? Uhmm... I remember I like a song from them, but I don't remember which.

For the mainstream metal, or screaming and stuff, I'm not a fan really. I like Trapped Under Ice from Metallica, and a few of their smoother songs, and I really love Iron Maiden, mostly Phantom of the Opera. I'm more into progressive rock, so sometimes I tend to enjoy prog metal groups. Tool is great, my favorites being Schism and 42&6. And a very unknown band, called Citizen Cain, make some metal songs too.

So yea, it's very limited.

The vocals used to turn me off of a band. I got into metal listening to the cleaner side of things. Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, Black Sabbath, Dream Theater, etc. It's only recently that I've delved a bit into the harsher vocal stuff (Death, Opeth, Exodus, etc...)

Explore some bands with clean vocals. Power metal is a great place to start for that.

Oh, Slipknot is awesome. As for metal in general, I'd have to say it's one of my favorite genres. Not that over the top heavy shit where they scream into the mic. That hurts my ears.

Mettalica is probably my favorite metal band.

Their new stuff isn't as good, though.

This one is pretty good, though:
