gaming What are things you dont like seeing in videogames?

"Forced" online/multiplayer ala Demon's/Dark Souls. Oh and guess what, in Dark Souls 2 you aren't safe from invasion even while hollowed so your only hope is playing offline.

Oh and also no pause button in real-time games...ala Demon's/Dark Souls. Fuck not having a pause button. I don't care what the reasons are for it being in the game, it's dumb.

Oh and silent protagonists. In 99% of all cases they don't need to be silent. Ever. Characters like Crono, Serge and Link are...unnecessarily silent. They have personalities. Silent protagonists are there for characters whose personality and character are decided by the player like in Fallout.

-bad level design

-freezes

-bad framerates

-not knowing where to go next

-overly difficult boss fights

-save glitches(oh the sad abundance of this lately, look on any system and you'll probably find a game with a save glitch)

-bad localization(not usually the game's fault though)

-no online play in games that should have it(Nintendo needs to get better at this one in particular)

-input lag

-me losing(because who likes to see themselves lose/game over?)

~Freezes...yes. Fallout 3 and New Vegas were notorious for that on Xbox. On PC it would just crash randomly. Though there is a fix for it.

~Difficult boss fights.one reason why I haven't completed a couple games.

-Bleak, post-apocalyptic environments. Don't mind some ruins here and there, but when the majority of a game takes place in such a setting...

Hey, Fallout is a fun game. So much exploring to be done and things to find.

Sometimes I find people, including myself at times, are really intolerant of really trivial things. I certainly hope people don't pass up good games if they have things they don't like in them.

I may be biased though. I would never turn away from a game for any reason so long as I'm in the mood for it.

>incorrect weapon names and models, I'm looking at you cod, that is not a colt commando, the colt commando was not marketed untill 1993, your game takes place in '68, that is a xm177 call it as such.

>incorrect weapon functioning. The javelin is a fire and forget, making me hold a lock on isn't how the real thing works dice. And you cannot reload an AT4.

>incorrect ballistic performance. Why does the m16 do more "damage" than the m4? They both fire the same standard issue round, they both use the same STANAG magazine, why does it do more "damage" having a longer barrel?

>insta kill knifeing. Why does your knife do more damage than my m240b?

>Fatal hallway 13 style single player; I do not mind a semi-linear single player story, but that entire game was one giant ass hallway, you could not go right or left, you could not move around a map freely, and using an emulator, I have beaten the game using a macro.

What don't I like in videogames?

Sudden stealth sections.

Areas where you temporarily lose your weaponry, gear or powers.

Unblockable attacks.

Fights that degenerate into button-mashing.

On-Disk DLC.

Badly-written romance.

QUICKTIME EVENTS.

So, a "difference of opinions/tastes" equates to intolerance in your mind? Interesting way you must see the world.

I'm sure there is a lot to see and do, but if one simply can't get immersed in that type of environment, then they're not gonna have nearly the same level of enjoyment as someone who eats it up.

It's intolerance when one would literally drop an entire game because it has a few things they don't like in spite of everything else the game has to offer. When did people stop being able to look past things they don't like to find the good things?

That's like telling someone who gags on anchovies not to knock an anchovy pizza till they try it. Doesn't matter how much the bread, sauce and cheese adds to the flavor, if they find the anchovies repulsive enough, it'll ruin the whole pizza for them.

Turnoffs in video games/movies/books/etc. are much the same way. I love RPGs, but others find them boring. That doesn't make them intolerant, it just means they stick to what they know they'll enjoy, much like most people do.

  • Forced tutorials. (I'm in the minority that actually reads the enclosed instruction book. Plus they're annoying.)

Oversexualized characters, it just makes me feel dirty and it's largely unnecessary

Microtransactions with a "pay to win" mentality

Escort Quests, because the NPC always appears to be the offspring of Leeroy Jenkins

Back tracking; because there's nothing better than going through the exact same level 6 times to increase the length of a stage, right?

That's a physical reaction. I'd say that's a little different from finding a character type you don't like or a gameplay system that just doesn't do it for you. Those are mental things. Mentality is what you make of it.

And I'm not even saying everyone has to like every game in existence just because I do. All I'm saying is that I find it really stupid that people can't look past a whiny voice to see a character for what they are or something along those lines and then stop playing a game entirely because of that one thing. That isn't even hyperbole. I've seen people give up on games because of something that is that minor.

You might also notice that I am personally highly intolerant of other people's opinions. I don't deal with them well because I find most things people complain about to be completely and utterly insignificant. That will never change even when I'm being hypocritical and complaining about little things myself.

The same crap over and over and over, with new lables (IE CoD)

Only focusing on multyplayer, and ignoring the single player story, so it's like short and crappy.

DLC for crap that should've been on the game to begin with (game is 50-60$, stop)

Escort missions/quests....ESPECIALLY in WoW...

Feel free to add me on steam if you want to play something. Also don't be afraid to message and talk to me. I've had bad luck when I start a conversation, so I more then likely won't start one.

I think you're muddying the issue by trying to differentiate between biological responses and emotional responses; in the end, they both fall under the category of "taste", and so my analogy still stands.

But you should realize that this thread isn't geared towards "what are the kind of things that would deter you from playing a video game", it's simply meant to voice what one finds distasteful in the games one has played, and would prefer to be weeded out of future games. I don't think anybody here's making the claim that if just one thing on their lists shows up in a video game, they won't play it. But it likely will lower their overall enjoyment of a game to see their turnoffs included in it.

Tutorials: What game comes with a printed manual anymore? The last 3-4 Games I've bought have not had a manual worth reading. If you're lucky they tell you the controls and that's it.....nothing about hte characters, or setting or any kind of prologue.

Oh God, I lol'd harder than I should've at the Leroy Jenkins Ref....but it's do damn true. I despise Escort missions/quests.

Back Tracking, I don't mind it once or twice, because sometimes you'll find something you missed on your first walk through.

I'm not stupid, I know what the topic is about but that doesn't mean there aren't other things to consider in such a topic.

And I was never targeting anyone in this topic. I was making a general observation because I have seen people give up on games because of one or two things.

Dont like to see?

Microtransactions.

And any "horror" elements.

I also agree with person from post #42 (what a nice coincidence, eh? )

"Next-gen" graphics = Uncanny Valley characters sweating more than physically possible in real life.

I've seen a fat acceptance parade. You have no idea how much people can sweat man.

1. Instant-Death moves. There are exceptions. Like Headshots in TF2 (particularly), and the Spy's backstab mechanic in TF2. But not Horn Drill or Sheer Cold. Those are ridiculous.

2. Annoying characters. I have one obvious example. Jasper Batt Jr. Oh and Slippy.

When a game tells you that you fail. Game Over screens, failure screens, or just a boss commenting on your failure. Really it is annoying to be rub in the face if you fail, especially with a hard boss or part of the game. All they do is make you feel worse.

Fuck Microtransactions and On-DIsc DLC

Don't forget pre-order incentive DLC. I am really sick of how DLC has become nothing more than a way to force pre-orders and leave games unfinished. That's really how I feel about a lot of DLC these days, it's an excuse to squeeze more money out of games or force pre-orders. "Oh you didn't pre-order this game? Yeah, you can never have a complete version then." It's gotten ridiculous with Pre-order DLC, such as Metro: Last Light not including an entire game mode for not pre-ordering.

Cutscenes you can't skip upon multiple playthroughs. I like the Kingdom Hearts Saga, but if I have to sit through all the cutscenes again when I go back to play it again, my chances of replaying the game will be much lower.
