Overly large boobs.

 

more blood than can fit in the actual body.

 

drugs. (alchohol is ok because it adds personality to the characters as long as it's not over the top, like if it's a pirate game, it needs rum)

 

health bars over the enemy (sometimes it's ok but other times it's more realistic if you have to guess)

 

and last but not least sex, it's not necessary and a good game doesn't need it.

- Linear level design

- The game forcibly killing you if you don't do exactly what the game tells you to do

- Handholding

- Day 1 DLC

- Shitty options menu

- Too many cutscenes

- Linear or otherwise bad gameplay

- Bugs

- Zombies

- Shitty console ports

- Too much DRM

- Bad AI

100% completion.

I mean going through the game and finding eveything, getting everything and shooting everything.

It seems like a big thing, but it's just a chore...

 

Also, to everyone who hates sex scenes, just play mass effect. Believe me they work beautifully.

1. Sexualized characters.

 

Now, I'm not referring to characters with large breasts or dashing legs or something that of that sort, because to my knowledge, characters of that sort HAVE been done well. I mean, Tharja, from Fire Emblem: Awakening was a... decent character, and you can see so much of her.

 

My problem is when this sexual look is constantly exploited; when there's dialogue about a girl's breasts, or how ashamed they are of the size; essentially, whenever a character's sexual appeal plays a part in their development, I'm gone.

 

2. BADASS EXPLOSIONS AND SEX AND TESTOSTEROME AND MAAAAAAAN

 

You know what I mean by this. This is honestly a minor one if the game itself is still good (excluding sex, I avoid that crap like the plague), but my GOD, sometimes it's just too easy to tell when a game was made to appeal to the MANLY MEN, and as an agender-borderline-transgender, it just... offends me to a deep emotional level.

 

3. American Kirby is Badass.

 

We all know this trope, whether we know the name or not. This revolves around the idea that in America, we make games more "badass", so as to not alienate the cutesy-avoiding North American market.

Now, to be fair, I can understand this one to a point, because, fact is, people in America DO tend to avoid "cute" games. I mean, Klonoa was the greatest thing ever, and almost no one's played it.

I just want more cute games, guys. T_T

Quite a few things:

-Cutscenes that are boring/unnecessary/irrelevant

-Linear plots/gameplay

-Bad storyline/voice acting

-Microtransactions

-Sequels that are way to similar to their predecessors(looking at you, CoD  :okiedokielokie:)

-Bad combat

-Extremely bad AI

-Games with no plot/end goal(Flappy Bird is an example)

-The Adoring Fan

-Stupid tutorials. The best games are the ones that teach you how to play by simply letting you play the game.

 

-Large amounts of cutscenes. A good story can definitely help a game. But why not take advantage of video games unique ability to tell non-traditional stories? The best stories in games are the ones that always involve the player in some manner.

 

-Pointless censorship. Nudity, Gore, Swearing, Drugs, Blasphemy are all fine in a game. I don't like it when games give up their own style just to avoid offending anyone. If someone does not wish to play it they do not have to.


Twilight is best pony.

Unskippable Cutscenes: cutscenes can be great but one thing I can't stand is being in situation where say I am having a hard time getting past a certain part of the game and keep having to watch the same scene again and against when I try to pass it again, it makes me feel like the game is mocking me.

 

Games that are cheap clones of each other: Pretty much 90% of modern shooters suffer from this which is sad because there were so many great ones in the 80's and 90's and even a few gems in the early 2000's but games like Call of Duty for example all feel like the exact same game repackaged under a different label. I am looking forward to the new Wolfenstein game though because I am a huge fan of the original PC game.

 

Bad/awkward controls: About 90% of the Wii's early games and 90% of its ports all suffered from this but there have always been some games that have had this problem. People say that Sonic 06 is bad and since I hadn't played it I can't comment but I know for a fact that Sonic and The Secret Rings is a piece of crap because of it's awkward, stiff and unresponsive controls. The worst game I ever played though is Superman 64 because even without the control issues the game was incredibly boring of all the things you could put into a game about Superman with all of his powers just what the hell is with all the mindless fetch quests and stale and repetitive mini games?

 

Overuse of DLC: DLC is all well and good but I already paid for the damn game and don't want to pay for it over and over again just to get more stuff. I can understand maybe the occasional thing here and there but it seems like they pack a little here and a little there and it all adds up, but I suppose developers wouldn't be doing that if people didn't actually shell out money to buy that.

 

Always Online DRM: just what the hell I am supposed to do if my internet goes down and I want to play the fricken game? This is understable for MMO's but come on.

 

Excessive bugs/glitches: I am noticed more and more games being released long before they should be and being "fixed" after release with patches. The point of getting a game is to actually play it and if I can't play a game because they got sloppy with quality control and are rushing out patches to cover their asses than that tends to make me not want to buy anymore of their games.

weak storylines, weak characters, weak gameplay, "modern look" for the sake of being modern, terrible voice acting, terrible controls, terrible replay value, tons of gorey violence for the sake of gorey violence, tons of expletives for the sake of seeming "adult", suggestive themes, and too many gimmicks. 

 

I think that covers quite a bunch of them...

Video games that doesnt have any long term playability, let me explain. Alot of games have very limited content after the campaign, a prime example is Warhammer 40k: Space marine, AWESOME campaign and awesome gameplay, but after the campaign you could pretty much do nothing. sure you could play online and do deathmatch but the game wasnt designed around team deathmatch. Im very angry at the people who made that game... the thing they could've done with it.

 

 

What makes a game good in my eyes is the ability to play it 2 months after you bought it.

 

Also on bad games with nothing after the campaign.. Warhammer Mark of Chaos. WTF I cant even do AI battles after the campaign? bullshit.

 

While I dont play World of Warcraft anymore, it entertained me for like 9 years.. now thats a good game.

 

Hopefully blizzard delivers on diablo 3 reaper of souls thats comming out in a week.

micro transactions

DLC that's way over priced or needed to finish the game 100%

 

and worst of all, false advertising by use of bullshots and pre-rendered scenes.

Over sexualized characters (Lara Croft, Cortana, etc)

Super Long bosses that could take over twenty minutes

No objectives (Minecraft, Terraria, etc.)

I wouldnt mind maybe a few objectives at least

I have quite a bit.

 

-Long or short pointless cutscenes that you CANT skip, even if you have already seen it.

-Anything timed, like especially needing to solve puzzles or hurry and get to this point before time runs out.

-Racing, unless its like Mario Kart, but I mean, like in a RPG.

-Beating multiple enemies at once without any partners.

-When you are in a boss battle and you can barely find any health that you NEED.

-Stupid tutorials.

-When you cant play around after you have beaten the game.


I hate:

-over sexualized female characters (Halo 4's Cortana).

-unnecessary gameplay elements (GTA 5's golf).

-using only 4 different Character models for a game filled with NPCs (fable 3)

.

 

I totally agree with the over sexualized female characters. Cortana, Tomb Raider, Zero suit Samus, Krystal from Star Fox (I like Krystal, but at first she was fine because she was in some "tribal" outfit, but the rest of the games with the skin tight suit?). They really need to make more games with  female characters with less big chests and skin tight suits...

Oh forgot one  more..

 

Silent protagonist characters that NPC's respond/react too as if you're actually saying or doing something for them (ala Half Life 2 and the massive age gap and little knowing each other romance with alyx vance)

 

It just bugs the hell out of me they try to say this helps create immersion... HOW?! if characters are speaking to you as if certain reactions are being made, than how is that interactive?

 

I'll  be blunt, I HATE alyx! My only wish is to shoot her, dump the corpse in a ditch, and then go blast some combine forces while blowing things up!  

 

I just realized that makes another one..

 

Annoying companion characters that have no real purpose but to get in the way, or just get in the way anyways.

Linearity

 

The ability to experience grind to make the game easier (this makes the difficulty pretty artificial when you think about it).

 

Terrible online community.

 

Micro-transactions.

 

Lack of innovation.

 

Recycling.

 

Repetitiveness.

 

When the game tries to spoon-feed you.

 

Unskippable tutorials.

I've been viewing this thread and I have an interesting question related to the common responses:

 

I've seen several people here complain about nudity or sexual content, but no one here has really complained about graphic violence. I'm personally really not offended by either, but I want to know why nudity or sexual themes are being treated as horrible, but graphically killing people isn't being paid a second thought?

 

On topic, mine would be unskippable cutscenes right before a checkpoint.

Again, adding on to my list:

 

~ Intense violence. Like, straight-up torture, or brutal deaths, etc. Just ... no. :(

~ Forced tutorials.

~ Inability to customize my character, at least to some extent.

~ Predictable events. "Oh a really long hallway with twists and turns, I hope nothing starts chasing me dow- oh jeez, gotta run!" ~ "Oh, dead-end, I hope there's nothing standing right behind me. I'm just gonna turn arou- ah, knew it!" ~ etc.
