So this a question I wanted to ask my fellow bronies on the forums. What do you do for work? Do you like your job, or want to move to greener pastures?

 

I'll start:

I'm a ramp agent at my local airport, which is the guy that handles baggage and various other under-wing tasks. I joined a few months ago, and I can easily say I LOVE MY JOB!!! This job beats my past jobs as pizza delivery driver and auto parts salesman, so at this moment I don't plan on leaving soon. Now the challenge begins this summer

 

So yes, what do you do?

I'm a cashier at a gas station. Which is in a tourist town and since it's the first one coming into town, it's the one that everybody stops at coming and going. It's...okay. My coworkers are all pretty bad at their jobs so I have to clean up after people a lot. My boss isn't much boss material. For example I showed up 30 minutes late (accidentally of course), didn't get written up she just had me stay a couple minutes after my shift was supposed to end. Since it's winter we don't have any tourists so it's really slow and I essentially get paid to sit at a desk and read a book for 8 hours so it's really easy. But I'm probably going to be moving soon so I'll have to leave it. Honestly it won't bother me, I won't miss it. I got a lot of experience working there and it puts money in my pocket but other than that it's pretty meh

I work as an assistant chef in staff restaurants. It is hard work most of the time, but the pay is decent and I am more than happy doing my job.

Anycase, I'm a Database Administrator, Project Manager, and a variety of other things at Microsoft. For the next couple of weeks anyway. They're shuffling me around right now, so I'm not entirely sure where I'm going to land.

 

Other than that, I also raise sheep for wool and sell handcrafts at a variety of fairs. Occasionally I get paid to act on stage as well.

   Before Monday I was a tile setter, but now I am an individual investor and stockholder for Scottrade, and I do enjoy buying and selling stocks, I prefer to hold and protect the investments, nevertheless I like it so far, a lot better than installing ceramic tile on a sample board.

I work in a command center for a credit/debit/gift card processing company. Troubleshooting for businesses having issues with us.  Been doing that for over a decade. In fact I'm writing this from there right now.

Me, I'm a Primary school teacher( that's elementary school to all you Yanks). It's hard work, especially as I have Aspergers, but I wouldn't want to do anything else!

I don't have a steady job, but I've done a lot of odd jobs here and there doing repairs, hauling off junk, cleaning out houses: ect.

Currently I work as seller in my dad's company. I mostly sell building materials there but also sometimes I take care of warehouse or delivery. I also currently study safety engineering (or at least this is how it's called when literally translated from polish language) and in my free time I have small musical project with my friend. To be honest about my job - I think that after studies I will look for something else due fact that no matter how hard I try to get into this kind of business I just lack interest in it and atmosphere in office is quite awful, especially now. I also want to leave Poland overall as I am sick of things politicians here are doing...

I work in an auto shop, sweeping floors, wiping up oil spills, keeping the tools and everything organized and getting to do the occasional oil change and/or tire rotation

I work in a mid-sized hardware store. I fix screens, cut shades, and all those odd jobs. I actually work in the receiving area, checking things in and organizing the backroom so nothing gets too cluttery and chaotic. My real speciality lies in manning the key desk and hardware area. I appear to have gotten particularly excellent at them, and I do unspeakable things to keys to make them work properly.

 

I also repair computers, fix viruses, install networks, and diagnose computer issues both on the job and in my spare time. I enjoy using these skills for (semi) free wherever possible, to be a general help toward my community.

I work at a small town meat locker/grocery store. I rarely help out in the back where the meat processing is done. I don't have the heart to work in back.....I manage the grocery store, and I am the only actual employee so I do pretty much everything with the maintenance of the grocery store part.  I also do all the booking and accounting. It's actually a part time job, and I have it to just get out of the house. 

This job is okay...it's actually really boring, and I only get min. wage for doing all I do. But I'm learning how to run a business right along side my boss, and so I've become actually invested in this place since apparently this place wouldn't be around without me. 

My other "job" is doing commission work for welding/blacksmithing, and I often do that with my husband. It's an "under-the-table" business since it's not something we can live off of.

I am the Jr. Banquet Captain at Canad inns Club Regent, I set up meetings, weddings, conferences, etc.

I have been working there for almost 5 years.

I'm a phototech in a wetlab.

 

I take care of the machines in the way of cleaning and minor maintenance. I also print photos and develop film. It's ok at times and very frustrating considering my coworkers can be inept when they also work the department leaving me to do all the repairs. Managment dorsntunderstand that photo customers are just as iimportant as other customers. Not to mention some of the customers I tend to get. From bigots to racists to the mentally ill and to dbags I get them all.

 

I have developed photos of murder scenes, amature porn, child porn, stalkers, vacations, weddings, family events, gang banging among others. Sometimes it's fun especially talking to vets about the photos they are getting remade. I remember one vet was telling me about he was a ball turret gunner in a B24 going over Berlin. Another vet telling me about how he had to run away from a b52,that crashed during takeoff with a full load of 500-1k pound bombs. Some talking about how they helped their dad mine for gold using giant water jet systems. Among other varied stories about their lives.

 

 

It's also dangerous at times because we had a manager clean the lab using bleach and we had to evacuate because he created mustard gas in the lab. Anyways it's a hit or miss. I just push through it till I get home.

I have been welding in a fabrication shop the last 9 months. The owner just lost the business over a divorce this week so I am out of work for the time being. I hope to keep welding but there is a cabinet company interested in hiring me so I might just take that.

Pay ain't stellar, but I don't care: Love the job. The office is amazing. Very laid back. Sure, there's superiors and bosses, but we're a small firm, so we've got eachothers backs. Then we go out on the piss every so often.

I work for a construction company that builds custom fabrications for houses and commercial businesses. Some of the houses we work on are foreclosures and flips. We do almost every trade: carpentry, welding, electrical installing, etc. I'm still a total newbie (have only worked there for 2 weeks) but I've already increased my skill level. I like my job and my coworkers. The only negative about it is the large amount of driving time/downtime. But if you like to sightsee, it's more appealing.

Actually, I was going to ask about the Information Security Analyst details. It sounds very interesting, and is definitely something that had always held my interest, considering the nearly innumerable ways to bypass any sort of electronic protective means.

 

I mean I'm sure it's unrelated, but it reminded me a little of the Kwikset Smart Key system. See that little notch to the left of the actual key hole plug in the cylinder? You can insert a tiny piece of metal in there while holding a KW1 (Probably a KW11, the version with the shorter borrom shoulder) in the hole, and it'll make whatever Kwikset key that's in there compatible with that lock.

 

That means if you have a little piece of metal, and it really is just a tiny straight piece of metal, into that hole, and the right key blank, you can get in there even if it's not yours. There was absolutely nothing special about that piece of metal, and it terrifies me.

 

That's the sort of security work I'm interested in - to counteract such a thing. They probably could've done a bit better on that one.

I'm a low-level grunt at a Papa John's.  I can make the small pizzas but am totally incompetent with the large ones, I haven't been trained on the cash register, no ever asks me to deliver pizzas for catering orders, and since I only work four hours at a time I don't get breaks or official meals. It gets quite boring at times, and 56% of the time I think of quitting because I can't stand the coworkers sometimes and I don't really have any advancement opportunities.

 

Hopefully everything will be better when I get into IP law.  Not likely though....
