Why do people say that Celestia is weak/cowardly?

I've never heard anyone say that about Princess Celestia.

I don't see how they could come upon that kind of conclusion.

I mean, she's the leader of Equestria (along with Luna), and that take some nerve to be able to be in such a position.

Also, remember in "A Canterlot Wedding", she went to fight Chrysalis to defend her subjects.

Celestia is an awesome and brave leader.

Plus, she's Twilight Sparkle's mentor.

Which makes her even better.

Is a classic situation of sensless hate

Those who don't like Celestia doesn't have a true reason to hate her nowadays, because through the show we see more and more of her, although every long time :(

Here is where i wanted to come. Those "Reasons" to hate Celestia have been destroyed by canon events(per example, when she banished Luna to the moon),so their new "reason" is that she's weak and/or coward, when every appearing of her on a fight(Chrysalys or Nightmare Moon) shows a fave of her who doesn't wamt to retreat, even if she wanted, because her task is to protect his ponies, even if her life is at risk for doing it... -_-

I know people say Celestia was once in love with Discord but i have never heard anything about her and Sombra.

As for why she is week, i think the best moment to use as an example would be Celestia vs Chrysalis. She looked vary week there and if we the ignore story productive issues, she was week at that time.

I like to believe that at that moment she couldn't fight the way she wanted to. Celestia has a magic that is dangerous to those around her. If she used her full strength against Chrysalis she would have hurt members of the audience. The vary same ponies she just swore to protect. Now if Celestia and Chrysalis where our in an open field with no pony in sight, ya Chrysalis wouldn't have lasted 10 seconds

but what the hay its just my opinion on this issue.  Celestia is not week just to powerful for her own good

The same mirror where Twilight went to Equestria High?

The same mirror where Twilight went to Equestria High?

No a different mirror. Starswirl the bearded creates two, and this mirror behaves differently to the one in EQG.

Because Luna fanboys are idiots and look for any excuse to make their precious, black, angsty princess look better.

Those who aren't Luna fanboys, well, apparently getting beaten by the power of love is shameful.

She was in love with him!

I still can't get over the fact something that inane happened.

Wait, if she fell in love with Good Sombra, why would she care about Evil Sombra?

Maybe she fell in love with Sombra before he turned evil? And when she defeated him, she saw the mirror as a second chance?

Anyway, I think Sombra as a good guy will be amazing!

@,

The way you phrase it, you make it sound like she fell in love with Good Sombra and this for some reason stops her from fighting our Sombra. You're being confusing

That is what I'm saying. Everybody say's that she was sent Twilight Sparkle to defeat Sombra as a test, but maybe it was because she loved Sombra so much, she couldn't bear fighting him again! Edited by Pinkie Perry

@,

If that's the case, she really is a coward. That'd be like Batman pussying out of fighting Evil!Superman because he looks like Good!Superman.

I think people view her as a coward because she's protecting herself, not out of selfishness but out of viewing the bigger picture. In the Season 4 Opener the Mane 5 send Twilight back home because if she were to perish Equestria would crumble and they looked at the potential consequences putting a Princess, the one fit to rule the country in mortal danger. Celestia needs to think about herself nit just because she's a leader but she raises the sun and no one knows how she learned to raise and lower the moon while Luna was gone for 1000 years or how long it took if she did have to learn. If she were to die Luna may not be able to lower the Sun sending Equestria into Chaos the new leader, and I say Luna because Twilight's too inexpierienced to grasp Government just yet and Cadence has her own Kingdoms safety to worry about, now should Celestia perish Luna may be unable to control the situation. The only time she's put herself at risk was when she attempted to duel Chrysaliss in A Canterlot Wedding but she underestimated Chrissi's powers and didn't know she could have potentially died.

So to recap; Celestia stays out to protect her country and prevent what happend woth the sky in Princess Twilight Sparkle

Who's to say Celestia is in love with good Sombra. She could just have a strong conviction to helping him because she got involved with that world and couldn't let it go.

I think some people say Celestia is a coward because she sends Twilight to deal with issues rather than going herself. I know Celestia can't execute the elements of harmony, but she doesn't even bother going along with Twilight to assist her.

Speaking about comics - in Friends Forever Issue #3 Celestia explains why she doesn't help Twilight directly or takes care of some serious things herself.

That's the way she teaches Twilight, because well, she's her mentor and this way is the best one to prepare Twili to be a real princess. This is not just a government position to rule the country, she has to be able to do much more than this. Celestia would intervene in any time if things would gone very bad that Twilight couldn't handle them. But Twilight proved to be very good and powerfull student so there is no need to help her most time.

I have never seen how Princess Celestia could truly be labeled a coward; however, I will say this:

A villain might see her motherly demeanor as "too soft" and misconstrue it as cowardice.

"Time is just an illusionary factoid that all natural things are bound to. It has the power to crumble even the mightiest of mountains into little more than dust, yet if it is an illusion, why is this so? Because people waste a lot of time, only wishing they had more. Little do people realize an inescapable fact: Time governs those who wish they had more of it. By wishing you could use it better, you govern time, and you can get all the time you'll ever need." — Starfall, Quillwaver

The way I see it, Celestia is powerful and smart enough to handle, by herself, the threats that Twilight and her friends deal with. But it's pretty obvious to me that Twilight's story arc is preparing her for becoming her mentor's equal, and I think that's why Celestia steps back most of the time. Twilight can't grow into a Princess of her own accord if she never gets the hands-on experience with difficult situations. As for Chrysalis, she was a Queen of an entire race, so they're probably on equal standing and the fight was just swayed by extenuating circumstances.

@,

Actually, Celestia would trash Chrysalis in a far fight. Chrysalis had been leeching Shining Armor for weeks and even then, Celestia made Chrysalis sweat for her victory and Chrysalis's reaction to beating Celestia is

"...OMG, I actually did it!"

Chrysalis wasn't even sure it'd be enough to take her down after weeks of leeching SA and it was just barely enough.

So no, Chrysalis is not Celestia's equal by any means

The closest I have heard to this are jokes about Twilight being Celestia's errand filly which has a little bit of truth to it but I am yet to hear anyone call Celestia a coward. It dosen't surprise me though as I have heard far more ridiculous things about other ponies, there was an influx of threads a while back that said some rather untrue things about Applejack like her being involved in incest and the Apple Family being a hillbilly stereotype so now how ridiculous a claim there is always going to be someone out there with one that will top it.

I think people in general are cowards, for commenting that someone is weak based on defeat, or passing responsibility to someone else, perhaps better able to handle the situation, even more so that the brave commentators would not even have the guts to raise their voice in protest. The real strength is not displaying power, it is the discipline of restraining that power like Superman, we have seen this come up in the comics and animated shows, if not try looking at Superman media and see for yourself. A major factor I have noticed is the claims of her cowardice comes from fan fiction, and they tend to be unfairly biased toward Celestia, which keeps me from reading fan fiction all that much, in fiction anyone is cannon fodder, thus can be eviscerated on claims or spin, yet another reason I think, is that some bronies have issues with authority figures, it could be parents, school faculty, a boss, or political leader, so they see Celestia in the same light, for they have transcended real life into colourful fiction, all I can say is that actions speak louder than words, and we have seen Celestia teaching Twilight Sparkle, to take her place maybe even the rest of the mane six, plus she and Luna defeated Discord, next she defeated Nightmare Moon, which was not easy and we saw that on the season four premiere, I love Celestia and Luna equally because they honour their nation, and enlighten the ponies, if you can see that you are a fool, I will continue to defend Princess Celestia, with the same spirit she gives to the ponies and Equestria.
