I haven't played Frontiers yet, but I will probably get it once it goes for cheap. It looks good, but I played Forces for the first time about a year ago and I couldn't shake the disappointment I had from that game, so I'm being extra careful here. It also does make me sad that we aren't getting a sequel to Mania, unless Sega ends up deciding to make a new 2D game themself.

I too am holding off from buying Frontiers until I see if Star Wars:  Jedi:  Survivor has worthier quality and I'm still bogged into Old Republic

First beaten to completion was Frontiers. I don't usually beat any game I play, and I'm terrible at platformers, so that tells you how much this game meant to me. I still haven't beaten it to completion though. First played ever, I have no idea. Probably one of the 4KIDS flash games.

 

It's pretty fun looking at the beginning of this thread and being thrust back into a world where Sonic Boom was the biggest thing that hadn't come out yet.

Also, I feel the need to mention, I have a worldbuilding project in the back of my mind at all times where Sonic X happens with Equestria instead of Earth (and Eggman is a unicorn and everything).

Only seen a couple of episodes of the show, but I've enjoyed what I've seen.

I'm honestly surprised by how there are a lot of people hyped for Sonic x Shadow Generations, since its first reveal I really don't have any interest in it at all, so I genuinely won't be able to understand people's excitement about a dlc to a game released 13 years ago. What happened to my interest in this franchise? After the release of the 2nd Movie and the base version of Frontiers, nothing has been looking any interesting to me, In one month it will complete one year since I stopped being a fan, I still love most of the old games and stuff from the first two decades, but all of these latest releases have been lacking a lot of the magic of the series to me, that's truly something. Well, I just hope this "new game" ends up being good and makes a lot of people happy, I think I should wait to see if the 3rd movie will be any different to me

The opposite, I don't care about the franchise anymore because I "don't like" their latest releases, but everyone else apparently is enjoying them and the franchise is also being very successful, so there's not reason for me to worry about the franchise. It's different from MLP, I'm not enjoying the current G5 (Tell your Tale Season 2), but a lot of people aren't too, and the overall franchise is in a very worrying situation, that's why I still care about MLP.

If you want to play these games, do it, you may have fun, don't worry, it's just my opinion. I just think the current franchise is nothing like the one I used to love, the latest releases just don't have the magic from the 90's/2000's/early 2010's for me anymore, they don't feel the same in my opinion. The live action movies are good, but my hype made them look much better to me than they really are after rewatching them. Same with Frontiers, it's not as amazing as I thought it was. I Think Superstars was okay. The Frontiers Final Horizon DLC was meh, the new biggest surprise in that DLC just didn't excite me any bit. Sonic x Shadow Generations has been looking very bland, uninteresting and a strong money bait. The new mobile games also look like money baits. The other media also feel bland. Sonic Prime was shit, I think there were a few good things there, but the first two seasons for me were just bad, I was watching MLP FiM for the first time when Season 2 was released, so for me it was just annoying to stop MLP to watch it, I haven't watched Season 3 and I don't want to, this show was one of the main reasons for me to give up in the franchise.

I actually think it has been like this since 2013 (not saying that I think like this since that year of course, but saying that after looking back at the franchise, I think this started in 2013). Lost World already lacked the magic to me. Sonic Boom is just not Sonic. Mania was pure nostalgia. Forces and Team Sonic Racing were meh. I think after the original Generations in 2011 the franchise has never been the same anymore. Frontiers (without the DLC), and the two Movies are the only post-Generations content I believe I genuinely liked (maybe Mania too, not sure), but these three also don't feel "Sonic" to me, if that makes any sense.

But that's all just my opinion, also, it's important to note, I actually never played any of the games released after Generations (and it's same thing with most of the games released before Generations), I just watcheed videos of them, full walkthrougs, so my opinion doesn't really mean that much, it's important to play them.

But I do believe I can share my thoughts on them from a artistic perspective, and from that perspective, I just feel that the franchise is now Zombified, sure, there were a lot of mediocre and bad games in the 1990's/2000's, but I at least still feel the magic from the early years of the franchise in them, I still feel that they were made with passion, Sonic 2006 is a disaster, but I still feel that the developers and artists behind it gave their best on it. I just don't have this feeling with the modern franchise anymore, everything is looking souless, corporate to me, with no passion put into it anymore, I don't see a "identity" anymore, just a money machine, and there is the fact that they recently made full-price very shit Remasters of Colors and a Collection of the 16 bits games (they literally made a new version of the collection, and people had to buy it again, it wasn't even a update) + re-releasing a game from 2011 with new levels focused on Shadow. These to me just shows how the franchise lost its creativity and magic, it's just money now. It's now much more popular than it used to be a decade ago, and this popularity just don't feel natural nor deserved to me, I think it deserved in the first two decades, but not now, it just feels artificial to me, with a weird exaggerated appeal to little kids.

But again, everything is just my opinion, if you really want to play Superstars and Frontiers, play them, hope you'll feel different about them, my disappointment and loss of interestet with the franchise is something only I feel for my specific reasons.
