Dubstep, Electronic, and other sounds

Okay, so I need some help. Does anyone know of any good vst's or sample (preferably free) that sound like they could be used for a lot of different purposes? Like a good saw, square, etc? One of the problems I am running into as an amateur musician is the selection of sounds that I have. They are very limited and I don't know how to create a ton of sounds (and yes, I have looked on youtube A LOT). Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Now, onto specific sounds and examples:

ArtAttack's "Remember You" in Serenity EP. At about 0:56, there is a really cool sustained note synth. I have no idea how to make that, but I would love to. I really need more synths/sounds for sustained notes. http://youtu.be/2ioMR-HGT8U

Now, I am sure that most have seen or heard about Hasbro releasing digital shorts to hype up EQ2. In music to my ears, I want to know how to create most of those sounds, but specifically the "distorted organ" sounds at 0:31. http://youtu.be/qh7j1qUaGOc

I may come up with more questions and post them. I can't find much help elsewhere so I thought I would turn to the loving community that I know of; you guys! Thanks for any help at all!

There are a lot of free VSTs that you can use. You just gotta google them. You can start with presets while you gradually learn the steps in sound making.

As for products like FL Studio, Ableton, and Reason, you can download demo versions of them to get started. The only problem with this is that you can't re-open your projects until you purchase the full version.

Hope this helps. ^^

So I have FL Studio Producer Edition. I have made about 5 or so mediocre songs. The problem is that I seem to have reached an impasse where I can't make any new sounds that I have described above. Additonally, with Dubstep/Complextro, there are a lot of unique sounds that I can't figure out how to make or how to combine seemingly different sounds together into a 4 bar melody. I have gone through most of the free vst's on FL Studio and even some others that I have downloaded like Firebird 2, but I need to know how to create those unique sounds and put them together. Thanks.

Personally I use massive for a lot of my stuff and it does a great job at creating a wide variety of sounds, however unfortunately it's not free. But there are plenty of brilliant free synthesiser plugins about that do a great job If you learn how to use them effectively.

Check out some of the synths on this article and see if you can find a couple you like; http://www.musictech.net/2013/10/freeware-synths-ten-of-the-best/

Some of them are pretty sweet! :D

While Massive is something that every FL producer uses in the internet industry...As a musician in the industry, I have to recommend the synth Zebra2. It's a German synth that's underrated and vastly more customizible than Massive. You can custom draw your own sound waves, and the tutorials for the VST is easy to learn and very fun to play with.

A good friend of mine made a tutorial on How to make a dubstep bass, and it's surprisingly funny and works:

Yeah, I'm not a fan of FL Studio. It's a bit...disappointing compared to the more powerful music tools out there.

Anyways, hope you find the stuff you need!

Wow, that tutorial was awesome! I'm checking out the demo of Zebra right now. Thanks! (I can't believe how much the gibberish turned into bass vocals)
