How do their hooves and cutie marks work?

One thing that raises questions for me is how do these ponies lift or manipulate much of anything with a hoof much less build cities and such like humans do. It is not all left to unicorn/alicorn magic either cause they use their hooves for fine tasks on a regular basis. There is nothing present on their hoof to denote they could grab something.

Then something came to mind after looking into cutie marks and the feats pf strength and agility that are almost commonplace with ponykind. They poses a form of tactile telekinesis. This would explain their ability to lift and work with objects not made for their hooves because as long as their is contact they have control of it.

A prime example is Applejack. Go out and hit an apple tree with something hard enough to knock the apples down and yet have them perfectly land in little buckets. Its not really probable that you would suceed. However if you are an earth pony with powers focused on farm life and applebucking and its a piece of cake. The reason she can is when her hooves make contact the force goes through the tree, connecting it to her will for that split second so she can direct the decending path of the apples.

 

Cutie marks seem to be the focus of the ponies energy as well as their personality. Before recieving their cutie mark their internal power is undirected and unfocused. Once the pony found something they felt good at their unused power was configured to best augment and facilitate the concept or task the cutie mark represented.

Fluttershy believes she is good with animals, so her cutie mark focuses her raw power to make this belief a reality. She can control nearly any beast because of this.

Maud Pie is a an example of both the tactile telekinesis and cutie mark theory. Her love of and devotion to rocks made her have total control over them. While she cant make them float like a unicorn all she needs is to exert a little force and she can sling boulders and punch through rockslides. Nothing about her physical appearance says she is super strong but she was pulling feats a giant would have a hard time with. Pinkie is filled to the brim with energy and can even reach beyond the proverbial 4th wall to get someone to smile and party.

 

To rap this meandering post up all ponies seem to have innate powers, even earth ponies, and these powers allowed them to shape the world without opposable thumbs and they are focused and harnessed through cutie marks. Or at least this is my theory. What are your thoughts?

Cartoon physics. 

 

They can also make their eyes bigger seemingly at will to emphasize facial expressions, make their eyes bulge out of their heads, and even make their eyes pass through solid objects such as trees. 

 

This kind of illogical stuff tends to happen in cartoons.. I don't really understand why people would look into logical, scientific explanations for general fantasy cartoon logic like this, but to each their own.

Lol Well this is certainly an entertaining turn out anyway. Of course at the end of the day its a cartoon but when I get into something I try to make it as plausible as possible. Especially if I want to write fanfics about it. Extreme over analysis is not for everypony, but I find it rather enjoyable.

Overanalysis isnt a bad thing at all 

in the end its just trying to make something as logical as possible to make it appear as real as we can in our minds

and it never hurts to know just a little bit more

Thank you! I have done this kind of thing with every fandom I have been apart of. It is all about immersion into the world and its characters. This kind of thinking also led me to some pretty decent fanfic works. I need to make head cannon profiles of the mane six before I do one though cause I like to be able to get in character. Pinkie is going to be tricky.

I like this theory but how do you explain Twilight? Your theory states that before a pony gets their cutie mark they have untamed and unfocused power waiting inside them. Twilights talent is magic, which means that there really is nothing for her power to focus onto inside that range  since it's so general.

Twilights cutie mark devotes her power to the mastering of magic itself. While this is a broad direction and it allows her much more freedom then more specialized cutie marks it is still a focus none the less. It shows in how powerful and varied her abilities are.

good writing is all about plotting and prepwork. You are going to hit writers block pretty quick if you just write with no clear direction. Give it a try while watching some how too material and you will get a lot more done

As for Pinkie I will go more in depth in another post but lets just say there is a lot more to the party pony than meets the eye.
