gaming Does anyone else find the "Enderman" scary?

The Enderman from Minecraft in my opinion is actually pretty scary.

Now let's say Minecraft never existed.

And say I explained what an Enderman was and described the creature to you.

Here are all the aspects of what an Enderman is.

An Enderman is a creature...

...that has glowing eyes.

...that comes out at night.

...that is tall and dark.

...that drops it's jaw before it attacks.

...that emits a sounds that can be heard from anywhere.

...that doesn't die in the daylight, but instead just... disappears.

...that will attack you only when you look into it's eyes.

...that can teleport to any location.

...that can run lightning fast over hills and plains without moving it's legs.

"But Emerald, an Enderman's graphics are blocky, making the creature not at all that scary."

True, but besides the blocky graphics, the description of the creature alone seems pretty scary to me.

Just imagine what this creature would look like in real life.

Feel free to share your thoughts. :)

Meh.

To me it's just a set of black boxes stacked on each other with purple rectangles painted on the top of it.

But like I said in my post, imagine what they'd look like in real life.

I actually used to be afraid of them when I first started playing Minecraft, probably because I wasn't used to seeing them. Let's just say I was pretty scared whenever I saw random purple dust flying around.

Now they're just, another mob for me to kill I guess. They would be pretty scary looking in real life though.

I'd be more scared of creepers honestly, mainly because they'd probably have evolved to where they could camouflauge in any environmment and sping on you like a beartrap. My defense against an enderman is basically build a short house with light inside it. Spend the night in said house (Problem solved)

Creepers can get you just about anywhere. Go outside of house, BOOM. Gathering resources, BOOM. Feeding the sheep, BOOM. On the toilet, BOOM. Getting ready to go to sleep, lets you wake up and then BOOM!

Also I believe the enderman is supposed to be based off of slenderman. He doesn't even have eyes, wears a tuxedo to give you a semblance that he was a civilized creature at one point, and can distort his body. Next to that, the enderman is a joke.

Oh my god... That looks like...

A black and purple Colossal Titan from AoT doing the Shadow Thingy that the Death Spectre or whatever it's called can do. You know, the thing from DnD.

I was dead until the moment I met you. I was a powerless corpse pretending to be alive. Living without power, without the ability to change my course, was akin to a slow death. @, realistically I think even half those qualities would make someone legitimately terrified.

However, right now... we all likely have it in our heads that the entity we know is fairly harmless.

There's a golden rule of horror--the more powerful you feel, the less you fear. What's more empowering than beating down many of these already without a care?

I think it would take people to see it first hand, in real life, for them to realize that yes this thing would be terrifying. But until then... people aren't going to be afraid when they think about it.  :)

Yes. IRL I would have a heart attack considering in the game when they pop out of nowhere I start wheezing like an old man climbing up steep steps. Especially with the screeching noise they make when you look at them.

They can be be pretty scary, but lots of creatures are both scary and deadly.

Endermen are harmless as long as you don't do the one thing they hate: look them in the eyes.

Seriously though, I've never even had the chance to play Minecraft for myself, but I've fallen in love with the Endermen. My mom bought me an Ender plushie as a birthday gift. I named him Benjamin. I also love Bart from Slamacow's Minecraft animations on YouTube!

First thing I'm gonna do when I finally get the game is start role playing as an Endermen researcher.

They are not so scary when about 80 of them are standing above some hoppers with just half a heart of health left each, and completely incapable of harming you or teleporting away. That's how I'm used to encounter them.

In new worlds however I have quite some respect for them, considering that they cause 5 hearts of damage per strike (when not wearing armor). It is however quite easy to avoid them going hostile, and if they do, I just hide under a 2 block high gap and kill them from there, or dump a bucket of water at my feet.

Tall black guy = scary

Even when playing on creative mode, they're still pretty annoying as they will dismantle your house one block at a time. Also, if you listen closely at their speech, you can hear it say what sounds like "faggot", which me and my friends (all of us are a bunch of idiots) all think is funny.

If we could put nametags on mobs like them, I would name one "Gary".

The first time I saw a Enderman, my heart was in my throat. I was really scared of them when I was playing the PS3 demo, but now I enjoy killing them, as it gave me that sense of achievement of making it to The End for the first time.

As a short man, I'm already scared of most tall people. Add in the fact that the endermen are already tall compared to normal people, and it's a recipe to brown my pants.
