Pinkie Pie's intelligence low?

I see what point it is you're bringing up, but I respectfully disagree with the very idea. Pinkie Pie is NOT stupid.

Her lack of significant intelligence is really only existent when she isn't the main focus of the episode. As I've said before, it's the writers' way of still portraying her as comical without putting significant focus on her or her development, because, as I said, she's not the star at the time.

She's not stupid, she's just poorly written when she isn't the focus.

I think Pinkie is actually very bright, but lacks common sense and communication skills.

I think she is bright too, she has her problems but stupidity is not one of them.

'Is Pinkie Pie stupider now?'

Sir, I will give you ten seconds to remove the 'er'.

Some people think she was stupid to begin with and has gotten even dumber. I don't think that but, even if you're the smartest person ever and loose a little bit of intelligence you could still say you're a little "stupider" and not be wrong. So I'm not saying she was ever stupid. :P Edited by Grumpy Enchantress

Oh, that's alright then. Imaginary soda for everyone!

there's no way you can even compare Pinkie to Ed, he's like genuinelly stupid  >_>

As much as I like Ed, that's a slap in the face to Pinkie's character. I think Pinkie bares many similarities to DeeDee from Dexter's lab, but Pinkie is overall even smarter and more enjoyable watch in my opinion. I still love Dexter's Lab and Ed, Edd, and Eddy though.

I loved both of those shows back then, they were a strong part of my childhood. But even if I loved them, there's no way Pinkie can be compared to Ed, I agree this is slap to the face to Pinkie.

Now to be fair, Pinkie Pie is the most difficult character to write well, Batman the Animated Series had a difficult time writing the Riddler, but when they did it was a good episode, they were smart and are ranked as fan favourite episodes. Same thing, the fans can be fickle about character and story arc, and have set different standards about what a character is, and what the story should be, I have not seen Pinkie Pie all that different from previous episodes, some little pedantic moments, but in the last episode "Pinkie Pride", we get to see her sensitive side, we have not really seen Pinkie Pie cry that much, no Pinkie Pie and the other ponies have gotten better, and vastly more improved, you just have to look at each character from a philosophical and anthropological point of view, to understand what each pony is going through and is thinking, finally why their actions and reactions match their motivations.

Nah. She sometimes seems to miss the point of things, or act impulsively, but she's demonstrated the ability to learn and is quite knowledgeable about some things even if she's not good at communicating it on a "normal" level for everyone else (like the parasprite incident). Sometimes she needs to chill out and think things through a little bit more before setting out to do something, however the other ponies are guilty of that too, as are we all. Maybe she's more excitable and unorthodox this season, but far from stupid.

Are you saying Pinkie Pie is stupid?  Because she hardly is.  She's not the most intelligent character in the show, but she is not an idiot.

What? How dare you. I would never say that. The context was that I thought that the word 'stupider' implied that Pinkie was stupid already. She's just eccentric. Huge difference. What you said was a huge slap in the face.

I understand the reasoning as to why many fans would say that about Pinkie Pie. However in my personal opinion, I would say that the only time Pinkie Pie would appear unintelligible in the show would be whenever she isn't the main focus of the plot. It seems easier for the writers to portray and present her as merely comical relief rather than a real in-depth character.

If you were to really observe her character in episodes like Party of One, A Friend In Deed, Too Many Pinkie Pies, and especially Pinkie Pride, you can see just how much depth there really is to her character. She is selfless, compassionate, kind, and is adamantly devoted to her philosophy that advocates the bringing of happiness to those around her. Sure she may not be as bright or possess as much common sense as Twilight Sparkle or have as much urbane stratum as Rarity. But she does possess high spirits, as well as a strong moral foundation. She knows if she has wronged another and in such an event she seeks to find a peaceful resolution.

She has firm understanding of her surroundings and she is zealously driven by a passion that is otherwise quixotic to pursue in our own cruel world. Overall, she is by no means dumb. She may not have the most brilliant mind but she has a heart that burns with such a passionate fire that drives her to the greatest lengths imaginable. As we have seen in Pinkie Pride, she will shoot for the furthest stars to defend and fight for what she stands for. She is the very quintessence of happiness and it is for these reasons I love her to no end! :D

I think the fans you are referring to take Pinkie's actions (partying, somewhat incomphrenhesive dialog at times, and bubbly-ness) to correlate to society's meaning of stupid. I think they are taking her too literal and not reading into Pinkie's  character well enough to understand her the best way they can.

In my opinion, I don't think Pinkie Pie is stupid AT ALL. In fact she shows qualities to prove that she is bright and that she is capable and willing to learn more. For example, after she explained to the CMC about how she earned her cutie mark she said randomly "and that's how Equestria was made". I know that it was most likely the writers' intention to add something funny but I like to think that she has some, if not,  a great amount of information on how Equestria was created. In the episodes focused on her, they all have a common theme of Pinkie being more aware of how other ponies react to her bubbly nature and/or partying antics. It shows that Pinkie Pie is willing to learn more on how to exhibit more respect to others.

No.

After all, she is pinkie, and she is prone to being silly and childish after all.

But that's how she is for the most part, but when her moment of fame comes by, that's when you see what a great pony she can be when settling with her friends and situations. :)

Not stupid at all. I think Pinkie is just as intelligent as AJ, Fluttershy, and Rainbow Dash, maybe even Rarity, but dunno.

Anyway, the thing is she's just childish; doesn't make her dumb, doesn't make her bad. She's just a filly trapped inside of a mare's body, and I find that to be fun :D
