  1. To be honest, I wasn't THAT into Disney content when I was young, and especially less today. I guess it's because I don't have much nostalgia for it, though I do have the soundtrack for The Lion King theatre production in my CD collection. My sort of thing was more towards intelligent animation productions, e.g Happy Feet. I still have a soft spot for some of these today, and what I think lead me to MLP.
  2. Washing Machines. During operation, I didn't want to go anywhere NEAR them.
  3. I'm jealous. The only thing I was capable of was road maps.
  4. Over the last few years there have been more and more decisions, particularly taken from some of the largest web-based corporations, that we cannot explain and whose reasons behind have been incredibly secretive. Cue Google, Facebook, even Yahoo. Infact, I'd go as far to say that Microsoft appears warm and cuddly compared to them. Let me give you an example: the value of information. This video sums it up pretty well so I'll let it speak for itself more than anything else. I have a suspicion that we're building up to a menacing climax where it all crumbles apart. Not like a dotcom bust, more like a revolution in a sense. People like me don't know who is supposed to be (or is) responsible for themselves or anything that goes on around them. Anyone else feel the same or similar?
  5. I would consider any gift that I only ever messed with ONCE (usually on the same day) worthy of being among my worst possessions. Infact, that's why I tend not to buy gifts for anyone, because I don't want anyone to end up with anything that will just collect dust in a cupboard somewhere. Usually my best gifts were ones that I specified myself, naturally. But unfortunately, it's not considered appropriate in my country so I have a relatively small window for that sort of thing. Besides, I'm still on income from my parents so it's perfectly reasonable to expect me to spend almost all of it on myself.
  6. I missed the first ten minutes or so, what happened to Discord? EDIT: Actually, I missed the entire Part 1, which is probably even worse of me...but I was doing homework, so I suppose that was barely excusable.
  7. All I could want people to do at this stage is to ask people to stop complaining. Creators, if you're fed up, start posting to either Dailymotion or Vimeo as well as YouTube. Consumers, if you're fed up, delete your account; the new comment system is of little to no use to you and you wouldn't lose much by abandoning it. Want to keep up on your subscriptions? Try adding your favourite channels to your RSS reader. People have forgotten that Google has the choice as to what it wants to do with its services. They have also forgotten that they have the choice as to which services they side with. There are alternatives for pretty much everything Google has to offer. If you don't like Google, use those services instead.
  8. I never thought about it before; I've just used whatever shampoo came to hand from my parents. Never conditioner. That said, I want to research it more now, given that I may start buying my own in the near future.
  9. For ponies here who are thinking (or have) moved over to Dailymotion, there's a few groups that might make it easier to identify yourselves, and should ease the transition process a bit. Not sure if this needs a new thread, but anyways... http://www.dailymotion.com/group/Dailymotion-bronies http://www.dailymotion.com/group/MLP-FIM Can't remember whether Vimeo has a similar type of thing...highly doubt it. Of all the YT alternatives Dailymotion is the only one I consider a serious threat.
  10. I would suggest that no one think of Google as a traditional company anymore, as they have gotten themselves into a situation where most of the normal 'rules' of business don't matter anymore and have become irrelevant. They are gradually mutating into a corporation an order of magnitude more powerful than Microsoft ever was. The road can only get rougher from here, folks.
  11. It's mostly privacy issues. Google+ has created another window for Google to collect information about you, which will be sold on to advertisers. The new comment system makes this very difficult because everyone's list is now personalized, and you can no longer be as anonymous as you were before. There's also usability issues and bugs. Remember the YouTube inbox? That has been replaced by a bell. I mean, seriously. You also can no longer reply to comments more than a week old or attain a consistent presence in the rating system. An unlimited character and hyperlink allowance will make spam more rife as people now have enough space for full-blown ASCII graphics, and viruses. There is no way you can dismiss this change as a mere coincidence, not even the slightest. As Jonathan Paula (of Jogwheel Production) said, this is a situation where Google takes 1 step forward and 5 steps back. Sure, you might like the new comment threads, but your dismissing the bigger picture which is diabolically awful.
  12. I made a Wenoo account, but I haven't uploaded any videos as yet. I can't really take it seriously because the aesthetics are hopelessly outdated (obviously borrowed off the 2009 YouTube). The video player there is pretty primitive even if it does get the job done. Even the copyright date is wrong. I would personally suggest Dailymotion, as they permit more types of content than either YouTube or Vimeo. The interface there is also very, very nice; you have access to a complete list of all the comments you have ever made, which is something very few services have. The only issues are you can't reply to comments, and the channel isn't very customizable. I have sent some feedback on this, and regardless its still an extremely viable alternative, especially with the YT community heading straight down the gutter. The Classic Game Room show is setting an example that all other partner channels should follow: they post their videos on Dailymotion as well as YouTube. If all partners did this we could well and truly see a massive movement away from YouTube.
  13. You can have the old username back, its just buried in the account settings. Just remember to click the cross in the top right hand corner everytime you get the stupid G+ dialogue.
  14. Migrating to another video site IS possible, just look at the Myspace-->Facebook transition. The issue is that many of the big channels make their living on YouTube, and supporting multiple sites or switching over entirely is a very time-consuming or expensive process. But, let's say the entire brony music and video scene switches to Dailymotion. That surely would be a pretty good start. I've decided that I'm going to 'lead the pack' in a sense, as I will be deleting my YouTube account in seven weeks time. I'll likely get some hate from it, but IMO nothing ventured nothing gained. If Google's business model requires them to do what they have done to the YouTube comments, then I have no interest in them whatsoever.
  15. Flabbergasted by robot butlers, I ate fifty ponies with Feld0. However, this is only a Sidestory. The boombas bounced on Pinkie Pie, she protested against starving sugar pies. Cause Sajtan92 was going to get sacrificed, but something happened to go horribly Fantasticallishly weird. Then potatoes began pooping while flying cars into tomatoes. However, Franklin was stopped by Boromir, that is watching everything, around 6:00, the intense jimmies were intensified. But Morgon died. This maybe the first werezombiepyre who ate vegetarians, shibes and shoes. TwistedShadow brought awful explosives which irradiated chocolate warfare. "Gadzooks!" said Steve as he ran a Marathon. "I seem flattened by Celestia!" Amnesia: The Dark Chocolate Milkshake died because Pinkie Pie drank all the gorillas. Bloodthirsty drinks murdered by Cloyster and Twilight Velvet who thought something forgot eggs. Suddenly Fluttershy powerbombed Italy using a spork! This would cause farts of methane and aliens to burst spontaneously into bubbles. Everything went British with weakness for little crumpets. However Luna was eating Döner and drinking moonshine. LittleRawr woke up amid Luna, she stir-fried cabaret. Then, she found Squidward taking a fluffy, steaming roll of duck tape. She walked backwards into Australia, surrounded by pumpkins armed with banjos playing Thriller. Bombs from Equestria made with love sent from pineapples. Confused by boxes of Woonas and murderous chinchillas hanging butterflies on trees burning with the passion of Odin, and twenty muffins achieved Nirvana by eating Kurt Cobain with pointy sticks. Bob Ewell ate everything purple, evil, or round, while singing The Periodic Table of Cheese. Wrenches. Sir Lancelot and Captain Blackbeard played sitars because Jack was frolicking about in dandelions. Suddenly, Luna fell off the sea. Several seaponies
  16. YouTube's comment system suddenly disappeared for me on all videos, like 10 minutes ago. Nothing. Silch. Just the description. Tried signing out and in again, no difference. If Google have decided to switch back to the old system, or at least revise some of the settings, then I will be utterly shocked and amazed given their corporate position right now. No matter what though, they'll still have left an extremely sour taste in my mouth from a couple of days ago.
  17. There are a couple of things that make vinyl legitimately viable, in terms of sound quality. There are plenty of pre-1982 recordings that haven't had a decent CD transfer. Also, for many modern recordings vinyl tends to lend itself a better mastering because the big corporations want to make $, and they want as many people as possible to pay for the vinyl rather than the CD or MP3. In terms of the pure format sound quality though, it stinks. Hipsters can keep all their warmth talk to themselves. If you listen to a good digital master through a high-quality DAC and amp (possibly with tubes) then it will utterly destroy the relative vinyl version. Reel-To-Reel on the other hand...
  18. I absolutely love the concept of Bitcoin, but for now I'm not going to use it, because the software just isn't mature enough yet. For instance, if I want to back up my wallet, how do I retrieve the backup if my master copy is lost? The official client isn't beefy enough and is lacking some features I would like. Aside from that, I see a huge investment opportunity because it is the future IMO.
  19. Yep, it's a disaster. As someone who's had some sort of channel on it since late 2007/early 2008, the loss of the traditional inbox, and the ability to see a couple of the top comments with a default consecutive list of the latest comments is upsetting for me, to say the least. So much so that I'm seriously considering deleting my Google account by the end of the year, and switching to Dailymotion for my uploads. It also reminded me that there are alot worse services than Poniverse, which is why I haven't posted here for a while. Whoever thought that the business practise of constantly changing the design, presentation and functionality of web services for the sake of it was a good idea, and putting shareholders ahead of consumers, should be sent down a hole to the centre of the earth. Infact, I've already started uncovering the mystery: here is Marissa Mayer's take on the Yahoo Mail redesign that roled out a month ago. Given that she was a Google executive for a while, this may be extremely relevant.
  20. I think the other reason why I'm not convinced about my GS2 is that it's just not personal enough to me. Even my old Pocket PCs made me feel more special than the thin slab of Android does right now. Chances are, if I ever upgrade my phone I'll probably downgrade to a late Nokia S60 device, like the N95 or N86. Sure, it's not as easy to do some tasks but it's more of an accomplishment when it's complete. They also have built-in FM transmitters so I can hack in to my parents cars' stereo and play my tunes no matter what station they're on. Not to mention better battery life, audio quality for music and calls, and durable cases that won't shatter into infinity pieces the moment they hit the ground. Yep, that is my future.
  21. Ugh I wasn't trying to duplicate the thread, I was trying to make a BETTER thread. You could at least have tried to merge the poll results...oh well.
  22. To be fair though, even if you don't use the 'phone' part, they can be used to give yourself anonymity on the internet, as the IP address keeps changing every time you log on. That makes it useful to participate in illegal activities such as buying drugs or downloading torrents of movies etc (not that I endorse any of it). Huh?
  23. Yep, I went to BUCKCon last month. Only the SSC bit, not the main con. Still a pretty fun experience though. Wish I had come with more pony wear.
  24. I'm on a Galaxy SII, rooted and flashed to 'Slimrom'. I believe it's overclocked slightly, to 1.3GHz. It's serving my needs okay, needs a new battery though. Only downside is that I've gotten very accustomed to having a computer in my pocket and I'd like to try something less adept at social media in order to tone down my addiction to it.
  25. Yes, I know this has come up before, but very rarely with a POLL! Popular brands are split up, the rest are divided into the respective operating systems. This should make for a decent balance of results, so let the voting commence! EDIT: Just realised I posted in the wrong sub-forum. Can a mod please move it to Media Discussion? Thanks. EDIT 2: Just realised I'd bypassed Blackberry completely! If you are a Blackberry user who voted 'Other' before this message appeared, you are free to change it to the new option if desired.
