Parents telling little girls to NOT watch MLP?
Sergios117 posted a topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
I've been snooping around on some "parenting" websites and you'll never guess what I keep finding when I look into MLP discussions. Parents keeping posting threads how they tell their daughters to not watch MLP. Apparently they're doing this to "protect" their loved ones from us bronies because somehow, we're simultaneously a rape, pedophile, bestiality and LGBT crowd. Those parents keep talking about how great the show is, but we bronies are somehow ruining it for their daughters. I've also heard them petitioning hasbro to start taking down our art and fanfics, even the non NSFW ones. Because you know, little girls are going to be searching for "MLP clop or gore stories." or are old enough to create an account to do so. To you bronies who are parents that watch the show with your children, power to you. And could you please tell your fellow parents that we're not going to destroy the lives of their daughters? Because odds are, bronies have daughters too. http://www.change.org/petitions/my-little-pony-friendship-is-magic-bronies-cancel-the-series-my-little-pony-friendship-is-magic-to-end-the-brony-fad Here's an example to say the least. -
I never said the opinions of strangers matter, I'm just saying this is how you should do it if you don't people to think you're weird in general. You should be proud of being a brony and all, I just made this for the lulz because I heard many bronies who are caught buying pony toys are often a target for harassment later on. BTW get this, I was at the market today, and I heard a couple telling their daughter not to go to the pony section because of "strangers".
-
First off, I've never bought anything MLP related, mostly because I'm an evil socialist, marxist, communist, social democrat etc. and Hasbro is on my "Evil Corporations List". I haven't even watched the show on the hub. For those of you that do buy pony toys however here are some tips. First, before you enter a pony aisle, pick up a Transformers or GI JOE toy with you. That way, onlookers and the cashier will think you're buying toys for children in general. Second, if you are going to head straight to pony toys, pick up the toys in a vast quantity to make it look like you're buying toys for a charity or your sisters or daughters etc. Third, pretend you're ignorant about the franchise. Go to a store clerk and ask them for toys that little girls like because you're buying presents or something. The store clerk will take you to the girl's aisle and start showing you around. Say the pony stuff looks good because girls like ponies and the manager will agree with you. Fourth, if all else fails, ask the cashier to gift wrap the pony toy so it will look like you're getting toys for a birthday party. BTW, no offense to bronies that buy toys, but a lot of the dolls look ugly and not at all show accurate. I don't understand why you'd buy them anyway. Plushie's are cool though.

Depends on who you ask. I give it a 7 out of 10 because while the animation was good and the plot had a lot of funny moments (mind you this isn't a high school story, it's a Twilight can't fit in story), the movie had too MANY plot holes and while the songs were good for what they were, they were too popish. Don't buy it, I'd say try to watch it for free.

He was pretty noble in the film. I don't think obnoxious was the right word. I guess why some people like him is because he's apparently a healthy example of a male love interest while other bronies hate him because he was either too underdeveloped or that Twilight didn't end up with their OTP. I think Flash had potential, makes a cute ship with Twilight, but is too underdeveloped and like Sunset Shimmer, I don't want him to appear in the show because he served his purpose.
-
I don't know why, but for some reason I want to end up Twilight having a colt as a student even though I know it's a girl show. I guess my reason for that is wanting to balance the genders of the characters. Besides, it could be like a cute mother son relationship. Exactly, Celestia needs to get a life. Twilight has prove herself countless times, she doesn't need more testing.

Disclaimer: While I consider my self overall a beginning writer, I know how to spot originality when I see it even if I'm not being original myself. The following is what I consider original on a personal level. Anyway, I've noticed on Fimfiction and Equestria daily that the three most popular genres of pony fiction are human stories, crossovers and shipping. However, a lot of the stories within each genre are one the same. Here's how to shake up the formula in these types of stories. Sorry if it's long. NUMBER 1: HUMAN STORIES! *Now my main gripe in these stories is that the human just ends up in Equestria most of the time for death. That is annoying. Equestria is not an afterlife and while fiction is fiction, ending up in Equestria or a lighting storm through death is immersion breaking. For example, have the humans go to Equestria through a teleporter or in my case, a transport ship. Any of these are a better excuse than just dying and ending up there. *Another thing that gets on my nerves is how the human just accepts everything. Seriously, if you went to a world where english speaking mythical creature's exist, wouldn't you be freaking out? Also, why should a human just accept everything the Mane 6 tells them, shouldn't they point out how illogical a lot of things are in Equestria? Don't make your human an ideological push over. Create some conflict. Finally if the Mane 6 are told that their life is a show, they should be freaking out as well. In my story, my human OCs are not accepting everything at all. They are aware that the planet isn't right and aren't going to accept magic for an answer and drop the subject easily. Good humans should have a desire to inquire or else they're lazy. *Finally, make your humans diverse. Enough with the 20 year old guy ends up in Equestria. Go for something like firefighter, politician, teacher, or doctor in Equestria and play off their professions. I am writing a 'soldier in Equestria fic' but they're not bland. They can go from dark and violent, to arrogant and cheeky fast. Furthermore, soldiers aren't stupid, they can question things as well. HUMANS ARE NOT LIMITED TO ONE PERSONALITY TRAIT! NUMBER 2: SHIPPING Okay I'll admit, it is not such much as how the story goes as much as it's the pairing. Bronies seem to be obsessed with the same pairing all the time. Now you can just tell me to ignore shipping but here's the thing, many bronies like myself enjoy romance, but we don't want OctaScratch, AppleDash, RariJack, and TwiDash shoved down our throats everytime as our only option. This also reminds me that bronies will accept a pairing only if it's angry love. Seriously, look at the 4 previous shippings I listed. Most stroreis about them involve the mares yelling at each other, realizing they like each other for some reason and make love. THE END. No offense, but just because ponies argue, doesn't mean they're in love. Furthermore, just because two mares are close, doesn't mean they love each other unless they were lesbians and the idea of a world filled with homosexuals seems laughable. Being gay or lesbian is not a choice you can make regardless of species. You're born that way and just because a town is mature enough to accept your biology doesn't mean the entire town shares your sexual orientation the same way it doesn't share your hair color. Stop making ponies "go" gay in your fics unless it was their biological condition from the start. (sorry for the rant) For alternate pairings that would make you stand out try: Pinkie with Vinyl Scratch or Neon Lights or some combination with the three. Not because they were together in the "Pony Rock" song but because they're party ponies anyway. Try Rainbow Dash with Spitfire or Soarin or Soarin with Spitfire. Despite the fact that all 3 love flying and have the same destiny, no one seems to write stories about Wonderbolt shipping. Lyra with Dr Whooves. You could write a story about Lyra bugging the the Dr. due his supposed past as a human. There haven't been stories like that. Try Rarity with either Octavia or Frederic considering that they enjoyed the fancy lifestyle. Octavia and Frederic are in the same band anyway. Try Applejack with Caramel since they're farm ponies. Apples and Caramel go well together in real life anyway. Or try Applejack times Soarin because we all know what Soarin loves to eat. Try Derpy with Screwball because they're both clumsy. There seems to be no following with them. NUMBER 3: CROSSOVERS! (Video Games) This time it is a matter of what you crossover. For example, I love Halo A LOT, but too many bronies keep writing Halo fics and they're very monotonus. Master Chief crashes into Equestria on the Forward Unto Dawn and the Covenant invade. Yawn. There are also way too many Mass Effect and Warhammer 40K crossovers. I get that you like them, I love them, but they loose meaning. Also do NOT try to crossover a military shooter in Equestria because the characters are bland. (Although there are some exceptions like Spec Ops the Line fics dealing with insanity). Furthermore, do NOT ponify. It ruins the immersion and the characters have to go through a period to convince everypony that they are not from Equestria. When we think of our favourite characters, we imagine them as the species they are, not as ponies. However, if it is a ponfied version of a story like Fallout Equestria, then it is fine. For crossovers to consider I recommend: Watch Dogs: Aiden ends up in Equestria through hacking a machine or something and must survive in a world with no tech. Destiny: The humans from the game are from a world with both magic and advanced technology it would be interesting and the humans have plenty of reason to visit Equestria. A humanized Red Dead Redemption with John Marston in Appaloosa encountering the Apple Family. It could create a great southern fic. Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon: The Main character ends up in Equestria and annoys everypony with his 80's action hero ways. Hope this gives you ideas. Sorry if it was long.

Look, love is very biological. Twilight was a human when Flash asked her to dance, so obviously her now human mind would have not thought of it as bestiality. Had she been a pony, neither FLash nor her would have wanted to dance, because their minds wouldn't be attracted to each other. At the end when Twilight was a pony again, she blushed at Pony Flash because now her mind was attracted to stallions again.

Equestria is implied to resemble a more or less medieval society where the population of a nation was around the hundred million mark. Also I don't think changelings could imitate humans considering we are bi-pedal and we're clothed most of the time. Furthermore, what seemed to be a month on Earth seemed to be an hour in Equestria. It would take humans, or at least just the nation Twilight was in, a few weeks or so to mobilise an army considering aliens were involved.
-
Remember, the other main pony characters were crowded in a room for what seemed to be a few hours, distracted by Twilight's ordeal. The humans would enter the room where the other main pony characters are waiting, take them by surprise, use their ignorance of humans and guns against them, and shoot them before they could react. As a result, Equestria would be defenseless. Plus, Discord would love us chaotic humans and the population of Equestria is implied to be somewhere in the hundred million mark, making them outnumbered.

So Equestria Girls? Well, EG was a lot better than what most of us thought. Turns out it was more or less a "you can't be a human" story than stupid high school drama. The music was too popish, but for what it was, it served it's purpose. Plus we shifted from either being neutral or hating it to being either neutral or liking it. Now the ultimate hate for the movie is simply ignoring it while focusing on the show, and I think that's great. Anyway, the thing that sucked them most about the film was the ending. You can tell it was rushed. First off, the whole fight against Shimmer and Snips and Snails was barely 5 minutes long and it just came out of nowhere. Don't get me wrong, I was very happy that Snips and Snails got a huge role and I think SS turning into a hellspawn was kinda cool. However, the fight was too abrupt and ended too quickly. Plus, there was no point in the whole transformation thing. All human-pony hybrids were too uncanny valley and not to mention served no purpose to the plot. Why did they need to transform in those mutants when they could just use the elements as humans? Now a lot of you say the redemption and punishment of SS was stupid. I disagree on this a bit. Think about it, if SS's and the Mane 6's actions were leaked, they would be put in prison, interrogated for nearly destroying two dimensions, executed and the humans would likely invade Equestria in retaliation. The humans would likely win considering the other elements and the princesses were crowded in one room and have no idea how guns work. Slave labour is suitable. Then there's the dance. It was stupid and OOC of Twilight to go to the party while she was running out of time. Also the good bye to the human Mane 6 was too short. But what bothers me the most is how there will be no long term effects discussed in the film. Twilight won't remember anything about the humans and coupled with the horrible good bye, will drop them off like a rock. FS and SS won't appear and even though they were too generic, they had potential to be developed and make their haters like them. Even if they had a few haters anyway. Fine film, horrible ending.

Wow, I went to sleep for a few hours and I got a bunch of replies thanks. Anyway, I went to the toy store to investigate after posting this and you'll never guess what I saw. On the way there, I saw a boy of around 8 years old wearing an orange Applejack T-shirt. Then, when i got to the store, I saw a boy of around 4-5 years old clutching a Rainbow Dash plush close while he was looking at lego. That was heartwarming. To top it off, I overheard a pair of parents getting their young son a transformers action figure with a Pinkie Pie plush.

I thought about all the age and gender groups that watch MLP FIM. Obviously little girls watch MLP, there's the whole brony fandom of males ages 14 and up, the pegasister fandom of girls 14 and up, so that just leaves...little boys. So I ask you this, do little boys watch MLP or do they think it's girly junk? Also, are they aware that adults watch the show? I know each little boy is different, but what have the ones you interacted have to say about MLP FIM? Personally, if I had a son, I would encourage him to grow up watching MLP because not only is the quality of the show good, but the lessons are useful as well.

Right now, I'm going over all the times the brony fandom had a massive rage moment as well as the results of the drama. Note that I've been a brony since spring 2012 so I haven't lived through all the drama personally and all these numbers are estimates. I'm assuming that the brony fandom is around 5-9 million strong based on youtube views, netflix memberships, deviantART, and itunes downloads/ 1. The message of 'Feeling Pinkie Keen.' Basically, all bronies were like 'this episode promotes religious fundamentalism over rationality." Many bronys even threatened to leave the show but once Faust explained the show wasn't trying to promote anything and the bad lesson was bad communication, every brony calmed down. 2. Lauren Faust leaving the show. "NO!" cried the bronies as they smashed their computers. "Now the show will never be as good.". Then the new episodes came out, and we realized that show lost no quality at all. While no brony left the fandom, it did create some bronies who were like "Oh season 1 is amazing but everything else was crap." 3. A Canterlot Wedding Bronies were basically fuming because they thought the episode was going dissolve into stereotypical pretty princess junk. Not to mention every brony was angry how we wer introduced Shining Armor and Cadance without any previous mention. Then Chrysalis showed up, drawing bronies everywhere from her villainy and it turns out Shining Armor and Cadance aren't bad characters at all. No bronies left the fandom, but some were still disgruntled about the lack of explanation of the married couple before their premiere. 4. Princess Twilight Seriously, the fandom went atom bomb at the moment of the reveal. Every brony was banging their heads saying that Twilight will be turned into a Mary Sue and the show will be ruined for ever because she will be put in a higher status and Hasbro is changing characters to sell toys. Then when the episode was released, MOST of the fire was blown away. While the episode was criticized for being rushed, the songs were awesome and we got to see some of our favorite characters make appearances. Also most bronies were relieved that Twilight would not outlive her friends and would remain adorkable. While most bronies accept it as a normal change, around 3% of the brony fandom was claimed to have left the show (although only a fifth of those deserters became actual haters.). I think it's even safe to say another 15% of the fandom considers MMM to be the finale of the show out of fear that the next seasons will make the show a franchise Zombie. 5. Removal of fighting is magic. A lot of bronies felt that this marked the beginning of Hasbro's new corporatist attitude. There was the sudden fear that if fighting is magic was removed, so would fan art and fan works. Around 1% of the fandom deserted although since no further removals were ordered, they basically came back. Also the fandom pretty much sut up once it was revealed the team and Lauren Faust were making a new project. The real casualty of the situation however was that most bronies started to boycott the company by not buying merchandise that directly went to hasbro. - Now between MMM and Equestria Girls, there was a sudden uprising of new bronies thanks to the fan works of Double Rainboom and Snowdrop. Seriously, people joined bronies by the hundreds of thousands once they saw the potential of the fandom. I think it was a miracle due to all the flame wars that were happening at the time. 6. Equestria Girls Once again, bronies went nuclear fission. So did I. We basically felt that hasbro had once and for all stopped caring about the show and only cared about toys. We thought the film would be utter trash due to the fact the designs were horrible and uncanny valley, it used a cliche high school setting and was clearly made only to sell toys. Before the film was released, a significant 3% of the fandom left because Hasbro was clearly no longer caring about quality. Most of these came back however, but are ignoring the movie as non canon. The rest became passionate haters. But once the film was released....turns out it wasn't bad at all. Despite the high school setting , the story was not about Disney channel sitcom drama, but instead a 'Twilight can't fit in.' story which was acceptable. Also the animation was better then expected, proved to us Twilight was still the same pony/person and the music was again spot on.* However, the brony fandom still has mixed views about the film, but now it is half liking it while half ignoring it as opposed to half feeling neutral about it and half hating it. Believe it or not, the movie actually brought in a few thousand bronies. Not because of the content of the film itself, but informed the public of how huge the show was. *I should note however I do not actually listen to MLP music because it is not my taste, but I can still feel the quality of the sound.

Principal Celestia, you have a problem (spoilers)
Sergios117 replied to Forlong's topic in Equestria Girls
Well Celestia was always my least favorite princess. But here's the thing, if Sunset Shimmer's actions went public, then obviously she'd be locked up by the NSA, FBI, CIA or hell, the SCP foundation. Even though Sunset was threatening to destroy both worlds, she wasn't evil as much as she was a jerk and although her intentions may have been horrible, at least she was stopped before real damage was done. I don't think Sunset deserves to get locked up and interrogated. Slave labour sounds fine to me. As for Twilight just showing up, like I said, Celestia is my least favorite princess. -
I don't really disagree with you. In fact you're making me see things from a new perspective. At least somebrony finally realizes the hypocrisy of Lyrabon and Octascratch shippers. I never said that there is nothing at all to use as a basis for shipping the Mane 6 since they are so well developed. I was just trying to point out that instances where they were certainly close were not ship tease moments, just friendly moments. Some bronies believe said moments are actually canon for the ponies crushing on each other, I assumed you were one of them. But since you just use these moments as an example to develop your fan pairing while knowing they're not actually in love within the show, I'm fine really. I totally get why it's easy to ship the Mane 6, I just think bronies should stop seeing close moments as canon romance and stop debunking shipping pairings for having no substance while they ship Fluttershy and Big Mac or Spitfire and Applejack when they have hardly, maybe never, actually interacted.
-
Yes but then how do we have Lyrabon and OctaScratch pairings all over the place even though we know nothing about those characters? Besides, your OTPs might be developed characters but there was nothing to work from to suggest a relationship. This seems to inverse FlashLight which has a jump start for romance with a hardly developed Flash.

I can't help but feel that each species like ponies or zebra on the planet where Equestria is, seems to correspond to a race or culture of humanity. This post obviously isn't intended to be racist at all nor does it probably reflect the views of the writers. Anyway I've noticed that Zebras seem to be the Equestrian version of ancient or tribal Africans. I know that Zecora can speak for all Zebra's, but assuming all others of her species are just like her, then their accents are similar to what I've heard when watching documentaries from Africain tribes. Not to mention Zecora's hut is built and has artifacts similar to traditional Africain ornaments. What's funny is that Zebras come from Africa. The buffalo also seem to be based off of native Americans. What suggests this is their way of having a 'chief' of a tribe along with tribal markings and clothing. Also, what's interesting is that buffalos come from America and were quite common until white immigrants started threatening them (just kidding.). What suggests this further is that the buffalo had conflicts with the cowponies of Appaloosa which mirrors the conflict between cowboys and natives. The ponies seem to be based off of western European and American humans from mid-evil to modern times. This is evidenced by ponies beng the only species to have families with southern accents. Rarity and other ponies have french-british accents as well and 'normal' accents are largely 'Normal American' accents as well. The architecture of ponyville is also renaissance based along with Canterlot being largely medieval based. The royal guards look like old Enlighs Knights and Italian gladiators. What takes the cake is that Luna speaks like medieval Englishman. Donkies, Mules and Griffins have a less defined race although Griffins seem to be slightly French based on Gilda's and Gustavo's name. So when I imagine the world of MLP as humans, I'd imagine pony characters being caucasian, Zebras being black and Buffalo being native American (slightly tan). I'm not racist.

Sweet, my first forum topic that got over 1000 views. Thanks. Also I think that we raised pretty good points about the Flashlight ship. BTW, am I the first person to come up with Flashlight? I saw some posts making fun of the shipping name after I made my original forum post about it before this topic.

When I first saw the previews for A Canterlot Wedding, I could tell that Cadance was supposed to be created just for the little girls of the show. She's all pink and the princess of 'love' and got happily married to a knight in shining armor (pun intended) which is the dream of little girls growing up with fair tales. However, she is also the only character I've seen kill. Yes Cadance, the happy pretty pink princess of love killed or at least heavily played a role in Sombra's death. What's funny is that no pony seems to notice or care Sombra died although this is probably because it's a kids show. Doesn't anybody find it ironic?
