  1. Yeah, and I think that most of the show being slice-of-life based is the reason why there's so much variety in stories from the fandom.
  2. What I feel makes ponies so great is the fact that you can put them in virtually any genre. It could be a simple slice of life, a tragic drama, a romantic comedy, a mystery thriller, an action adventure, a story that leans more toward Horror or Sci-fi, or a full blown epic (oh, and clopfics too). You could literally make something out of a novel, movie, or TV show, and it could turn out just as good, if not better. To me, ponies are an alternative equivalent to humans. The big difference is that instead of humans, they're cute, big eyed, colorful talking horses.
  3. It doesn't much all to do with financial success, but more about having a story that feels like a major theatrical live-action Summer release. As for the Spielberg mention, I was just naming an example. It could just be made by someone who's highly influenced from big time filmmakers of the like. Same for the film composer, being influenced by epic film scorers like I mentioned and companies like Immediate Music and Two Steps From Hell.
  4. Umm, I never said live action. What I meant was an animated film that acts like a blockbuster film. You know those large scale fanfics with engaging storylines? Stuff like that?
  5. And with tools like deformers and master controllers, there's bound to be fantastic results. If done by the right people, they could make like as if they're hand drawn.
  6. I saw this kind of thread in another forum and thought I would mention it here. How would you like to see a Hollywood style blockbuster Pony movie or series that would be like as if it was made by Steven Spielberg, James Cameron, or Michael Bay, and having music as if it was done by the likes of John Williams, James Horner, or Hans Zimmer, with a budget so high that it would make the actual MLP movie look like a cheap Flash cartoon? Would you be down for that?
  7. Do you think it's possible that the fandom will able to either take the Toon Boom puppets from the film or make complete replicas of their own? It wasn't hard for the animation community to make puppets based on the show, and it certainly wasn't hard for them to take the show's actual Flash puppets.
  8. Umm, the gifs you saw above ARE digital. Just because it's hand drawn doesn't mean it's drawn on paper, it can be also drawn on Wacom tablets.
  9. Like for example, like a fan film or fan game based on the MLP license (not something inspired by it like Them's Fightin' Herds or Sulphur Nimbus) being crowdfunded in Kickstarter or Indiegogo. Would Hasbro be willing to shut it down even before it gets funded?
  10. Yes that is very true. Obviously we won't see it animated this way, but it's still fun to think about. There are two other possible ways it could be animated. It could be drawn frame by frame with the software' drawing tools, or could be rigged with this tool.
  11. Not just for puppets, but it would also be great for people to perform frame by frame animation on it. From what I hear, the fbf tools are just as strong as the likes of Harmony.
  12. The leaks have clearly stated that the show WILL INDEED use Harmony. Plus, it isn't used used for movies, it's been used for tons of shows, like The Simpsons, Family Guy, Wonder Over Yonder, and many others.
  13. G5 will have completely new characters. You're referring to the specials that come out after G4.
  14. Some time ago, Duo Cartoonist came up with this tool in Toon Boom Harmony called "Helios", which takes a 2d character and makes it with 3d pegs, giving it a hybridized look. Just imagine seeing the characters in G5 look like that.
  15. It's been indicated that G5 will have completely new characters and a new setting.
  16. The thing is though, that these stories would have nothing to do with the MLP franchise, and would take place in their own universes.
  17. With G5 coming in the next few years and having its own setting, do you think we may see Ponies become its own genre of fiction? It could basically just be a form of Speculative Fiction, among Fantasy, Science Fiction, Horror, Alternate History, Apocalyptic, Dystopian, Superhero, etc. Pony Fiction would basically overlap all those things, and could accommodate virtually any genre of fiction. Every Pony Fiction story can have a setting of its own.
  18. http://my.smithmicro.com/anime-studio-pro.html Also/Formerly called Anime Studio, this software has state of the art rigging tools that are not only said to be superior to Toon Boom Harmony's rigging tools, but much easier to use. While the Pro version slightly more expensive than Flash, it's way cheaper than Harmony. If you really want to start out, you can just buy the debut version (which is far cheaper) to get a taste of what it's really like. With this program, you can animate ponies in many ways you wouldn't be able to in Flash or even Toon Boom.
  19. If anyone wants to see the leaks that confirm that G5 will be completely different, message me.
  20. Fun fact: This program was used to animate movies like Balto, Anastasia, and certain movies like Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, and Howl's Moving Castle, as well as shows like Futurama and Steven Universe back when it was just called Toonz. It wasn't until two years ago when it finally became open sourced. Still, would be nice for this program to be able to import 3d objects and environments, and make complex rigs. If someone would make good pony puppets with this software then it will be easier for more animators to get into animation without having to spend a dime. As for it not being used by the industry, there was actually a film done with it. https://morevnaproject.org/pl/2017/07/22/7620/
  21. https://opentoonz.github.io/e/index.html Just imagine an animation software that's similar to Flash and Toon Boom Harmony, but is instead free and open source just like Blender. That's what this basically is, and it's a pretty powerful tool. It can do both puppet rigging and frame by frame. I feel that this would be a great alternative for people in the fandom who are on a budget and can't afford the other two I mentioned. It's to 2d as Blender is to 3d.
