  1. Calling this as a lie. (afterthought) Hasn't there only been one? 1. I once pulled someone out of a burning car. 2. I can ride my bike with no handlebars. 3. I'm an ex smoker.
  2. I don't know a lot about music but it seems intuitive to me that in the future, music will be produced mostly on computers. Glitch, dubstep, and electronica in general are examples of what I expect future music to sound like. Rather than mastering an instrument, many musicians will focus almost entirely on composition because a computer can generate all kinds of sounds in addition to mimicking traditional instruments. Instruments won't go away entirely. Physical instruments will still be valued by purists and because they produce unique tones due to their construction and how they're played. Live performances will also be a venue for traditional instruments. This is a great point. In a social experiment, one of the world's most renowned violinists played in a busy subway station. To a musician, it probably would have been obvious that he was a master of his instrument, but to the average person he might have sounded like just another street performer playing for tips. It begs the question, is great art great if it doesn't inspire? This is a really interesting topic! Thanks for bringing it up! The piece that made me think music was really changing into something uniquely modern is actually MLP related. This glitch remix of the MLP theme by Alex S is mostly unintelligible in terms of anything lyrical but it still evoked a joyful emotion from me. http://youtu.be/2R677MV--WI
  3. Umm, ok. I don't think people should ride bicycles on the road. The road is for cars. There are some places where it's safe, like if there's a bike lane or something, but most of the roads around here are narrow and the law states that you have to give a cyclist at least three feet of clearance when you pass them in a car, which is completely impractical. It leads to unsafe situations as drivers pass cyclists in risky places like blind corners, which endangers themselves, the cyclist, and other drivers. Lots of people around here have "share the road" bumper stickers but I think that's crazy. Get your stupid bicycle off the road before you get us all killed. /unpopular opinion
  4. Late reply is late... Nothing too exotic. I just like maki rolls and nigiri, mostly, but I'll try anything. Just keep the mackerel. Too oily for me.
  5. I've never met one I didn't like but my favorites are probably Crispin and Downeast Cider.
  6. I think it's safe to call it my all-time favorite show. No other show has brought me so much joy or had such a profound impact on my life. It's hard to think of it as mere entertainment at this point. I'd say it belongs among the best works of its kind even if I'd stop short of calling it the best. That kind of statement is just too subjective. Different things speak to different people differently. It's a work of excellence and we enjoy it immensely. That's all that needs to be said about it, imo.
  7. "Any chain restaurant." Just kidding, my favorite is actually a local sushi place called Ichiban. It looks like nothing from the outside and isn't much fancier inside, but the food is excellent. And when I'm out that way, Cafe Tropical on the corner of West Sunset and SIlver Lake Blvds in Los Angeles serves the best cup of coffee I've ever had. Oh how I wish I had one in my hand right now.
  8. All of my friends in the MLP fandom, including (but not limited to) @Simon and , came to it via the Chipmunk fandom. The same is true of me. While I never got into the classic cartoon as much as I did the CGI movies, I always enjoyed the music from all generations of the Chipmunks. There's something about that high-pitched timbre that just makes me feel happy. While some of the newer Chipmunk music is almost over-produced, it did introduce me to new genres that made some of the electronic brony music I enjoy now more palatable at first. From what I've seen of the 80's cartoon series, it's obvious that the show wasn't afraid to delve into heavier topics than some of the more light-hearted Saturday morning fare of the time. Alvin and the Chipmunks seems like a good example of using a cartoon as a relatively safe place to explore more grown-up issues, something MLP also endeavors to do. I know Ross and Janice Bagdasarian intended to use the 80's version of the Chipmunks to that end when they set out to create the show. Maybe that explains why it appeals to some bronies.
  9. I'll be 33 in a few months. I love this quote of C.S. Lewis: "When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put aside childish things including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up."
  10. What a shame that someone who made so many laugh apparently felt such tremendous sadness.
  11. I feel it! And it moves me! It inspires me to do crazy things like read, floss, and pick up litter. Knowing that so many people are open-minded enough to find truth and beauty in such an unexpected place gives me hope. Seeing people strive to embody the show's ideals makes me want to be a better person, too. It's good feels all around and I think "brony spirit" is as good a term for it as any. Great choices, there's something so joyful about that kind of music.
  12. My Favourite Mane 6 Pony: Twilight Sparkle How did you find MLP Forums?: Through the magic of friendship! Aka word of mouth. How you became a fan of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic: My bestie on Deviantart encouraged me to watch and the rest is history. Joined the herd about halfway through season two and haven't looked back since. Hi, everypony! My name's Simeon and I'm a brony. I love My Little Pony for its message of friendship, unapologetic sincerity, and the quality of the show itself in terms of production value. Simply put, My Little Pony is a work of excellence and deserves to be celebrated. I do that by participating in the brony community. Plus, fun! I love fun things! Despite all the silliness and fandom drama, I believe bronies are people who want to be good and do right. That's why I wear the badge. I would still love the show without the community, but being a part of it has truly had a positive impact on my life. I feel more confident and happier, and I've made some great friends along the way. It might sound corny, but I believe the show either speaks to you or it doesn't. FiM didn't just speak to me, it got all up in my face and screamed "You're going to LOVE ME!!!" And I did! So, about me. I consider myself friendly and approachable - a little shy at times, but not so much at brony conventions, which are my favorite thing ever. I've been to three, the last two Bronycons and Canterlot Gardens back in '12. I've also been to a few local meetups in my area. I draw a little (badly) so if you want to see my (bad) pony art or read my incoherent ramblings, you can go to http://simeonleonard.deviantart.com and check 'em out. Besides pony worship, I love to travel when I can. I do some hiking to stay active and I dabble in astronomy and photography. Twilight is best pony because she's smart and courageous. Alicorn Twilight is awesome beyond all awesomeness. I was briefly against it but came around well before "Mystery Cure" aired, and then was like "ERMAGERD!" Equestria Girls was great, although I'm a little nervous about the sequel. And I think that's enough about me! I've always tempered my involvement with fandom (especially forums) so as not to burn out or drift too far from canon, but I'm looking forward to meeting more fans and participating in MLP Forums! Feel free to friend request me or ask anything else you'd like to know. /)
