  1. Has anyone seen Adventure Time? The protagonist, Finn the human, is often ship-teased with various female characters that are older than him. He is only 13 but the writers portray his love interest from a character named Princess Bubblegum who is canonically mentioned as being 18 and is a living bubble gum person. Finn has also been ship-teased with Marcelline the Vampire who is at least a thousand years old and Susan Strong who is an adult human. Princess Bubblegum is probably Finn's default ship-tease because there was an episode where she had an accident causing her to lose enough bubblegum mass with the side effect of age regression turning her into a 13 year old girl. Now if you remember Secret of my Excess, Spike is revealed to have the ability to speed grow an almost identical deus ex machina to Princess Bubblegum's age regression. Of course both characters almost immediately reverted to their original ages but the statement is clear. If the writers plan to ship these characters together, they can write whatever they want to prove "age is not relevant." And it can apply similarly to anything else like species.
  2. Okay, let's not sexualize this by thinking what Spike and Rarity's offspring would look like or if its even possible or why the etymology of the word draconequus is "dragon" + "horse" in latin... The question is does Spike have a chance with Rarity? I think he does because based on the world they live in, the arguments are all moot. "Its magic. Ain't gotta explain crap." simply means deus ex machina is god. If the writers of the show want Spike and Rarity, then they can do it especially in a world filled with magic where a little baby dragon can turn into an adult dragon within minutes or where mice can transform into horses. We know nothing about Spike's age other than by dragon standards, he's a baby. We don't know how dragons age either but so far, based on two episodes, I think its canon that they get dumber and more immature as they get older so in this case, Spike being a baby dragon is an advantage for him. Its also canon that Rarity thinks Spike is cute which is true because he does have a cute appearance. Now observe the pic below. In the pic above, Spike's body looks no different than it appears on the show but does he look older or more mature? In theory, if Spike never practices greed or any other dragon behavior, his body will never grow. I mean, he'll age, grow wiser and more mature but his body will stay the same. Spike is also an underdog and from a writer's perspective, its always more interesting to tell the story from the side of the underdog. If Spike were to compete for Rarity's feelings against someone like Fancy Pants, my money would be on Spike because in fiction we all know that the underdog always wins. Remember RD's pet turtle, Tank? Competing against all those flying pets, deep down inside you knew its gonna be the turtle that wins RD's heart in the end. People are so quick to judge Spike and Rarity by their differences like she's a unicorn, he's a dragon but people rarely notice their striking similarities. For starters, Spike and Rarity are both gem lovers. She admires gems for their beauty while he admires gems for their taste. They've even exchanged gemstones as a sign of affection for each other. Another thing about Spike and Rarity is their greed/generosity duality. She is the Element of Generosity while Greed turns him into a monster. There's no way this could have simply been coincidence because its not like the writers pulled this out of no where. He's always been a dragon and she's always been the element of generosity since the very start of the series. Last but not the least is their romantic preference... Rarity's idea of romance is being a princess who meets and dances with her prince like in "Ticket Master." Spike's idea of romance is being a knight who saves a princess in distress like in "A Dog and Pony Show." They both share very common notions about what they perceive a romantic situation would be. I can't imagine the other characters would think the same. RD's idea of romance might involve explosions and lasers firing everywhere. TLDR, Yes, its very likely Spike has a chance with Rarity because from a story telling perspective, the little dragon dude has all the cards in his favor for a happy ending.
  3. Maybe they grow like how pokemon evolve. Lets say Sweetie Belle is a filly right now. One day she earns her cutie mark. One night she goes to sleep and wakes up the following morning in a completely matured mare body. I dunno, I'm making it up.
  4. How come we don't see any teenaged ponies? We've seen baby ponies (Cake Twins), child ponies (CMC), elderly ponies (Granny Smith) and adult ponies (everyone else) yet we've never seen a transitional phase between child ponies and adult ponies.
  5. Here's another strange thing I realized on the show about ages. I'll probably make another thread about it later because its a derail from the original topic. How come we don't see any teenaged ponies? We've seen baby ponies (Cake Twins), child ponies (CMC), elderly ponies (Granny Smith) and adult ponies (everyone else) yet we've never seen a transitional phase between child ponies and adult ponies.
  6. Explanation3: Earlier in the thread it was also mentioned that dragons in the Eragon books are self aware even if they were still in their eggs. We don't really know how dragons work in FiM but it seems like the older they get, the stupider/less mature they get. The teen dragons didn't quite strike me as very smart dudes and when Spike grew in SomE, he also got dumber.
  7. Yes, Tim Curry. Doing his Nigel Thorneberry voice on a pony that kinda resembles Nigel Thornberry. Alternatively, Peter Cullen doing Optimus Prime's voice on some manly pony like Star Swirl the Bearded or something. Oops. Cullen's not a celebrity.
  8. Being a baby isn't a prerequisite for his character to be considered appealing to young children.
  9. Ideally it would be Apple Bloom because she had an episode with her perspective on Cutie Marks before the CMC itself was formed. But after that, I think the leader depends on the episode. Sweetie Belle had an episode of her own too shared with Rarity in "Sisterhooves Social" and in the "Hearts and Hooves Day" episode, she was the one dominating the scene. Scootaloo seems to be the most neglected CMC. No episode of her own. No family. No back story. Its hard to imagine she's the leader of the CMC at this point.
  10. You do know that an earlier version of Spike was portrayed as a thousand year old dragon? As old as he was, he was still small bodied. The ponies thought he was really really old but Spike said he was still very young compared to other dragons and wouldn't be considered old until he was a million years old.
  11. Within the context of "Dragon Quest" he meant he belonged with ponies in general as his kin compared to the dragon species. If you're going with this strange family zoned idea (that children probably won't understand because Spike canonically likes Rarity) then it would mean he only treats Twilight, Rarity and RD as his family excluding AJ, Pinkie and Fluttershy... And just because you think he shouldn't think about love for being a baby dragon, doesn't negate the fact that he DOES think about love portrayed in the episodes where as the ponies themselves don't.
  12. Rarity could regularly ask for Spike's assistance either when she's working at the boutique or for gem hunting. Most likely the later. But bottom line is, Spike is really Twilight's assistant first, not Rarity's. I can imagine an episode where Twilight and Rarity might find themselves fighting over Spike only for Spike to rage quite in the end. Not exactly your typical love triangle but it strangely fits the idea of a love triangle.
  13. How do we know where she was born? All we know is she can't fly. And apparently, pegasi aren't taught to fly. They learn to fly be instinct like one half of the Cake Twins.
  14. I actually felt guilty the moment I posted this topic. Its meant for fanfic research and never thought it would ever be applied as an idea for an episode. Hypothetically, if somehow it was used as an idea for an episode, the concept would be cruel for both characters in different ways. Fans that are sympathetic for Spike will feel really bad while Rarity will appear almost like a villain, not deemed to be a good role model for little girls. The show itself has a "feels good" aura and something like this is as inappropriate as one the characters suddenly shouting profanities on screen. The writers have developed Spike and Rarity to become closer than ever this season. They even made it look like she cares about him more than Twilight does. Its canon that he is her little Spikey-Wikey just as much as she is his Lady Rarity. The way she cares about him, I don't think she could really break his heart without breaking her own heart in the process for causing the little guy pain. ... It doesn't negate the fact that Rarity was still portrayed as manipulative towards other characters in the series. I hope they change that about her, though.
  15. Okay, you seem to be under the impression we're saying he's not a baby dragon. No body in this thread is saying he's not a baby dragon. We're talking about Spike's maturity. Spike's sense of reliability and responsibility is as mature as the six main ponies to a point where they depend (or take advantage) of him. He is also more mentally and emotionally mature than the dragons he met in "Dragon Quest" which were introduced as "teen" dragons allegedly older than him. Dragons live for a very long time. Thousands of years even because they take hundred year long naps as mentioned in "Dragonshy". Spike could very well still be considered a baby dragon even if his age is already in the double digits or even in triple digits.
  16. What if it wasn't completely for adults? What if it was just a bit like "Adventure Time" humor?
  17. Spike isn't the only wingless dragon. He met a dragon with a giant tail that didn't have wings either. It was the one Spike tail wrestled with. I don't mind if Spike grows wings but I might mind if he grows 8 legs like Crackle.
  18. In "Dragon Quest" Spike has chosen to live like a pony and turned his back at being a dragon. Because a dragon's natural behavior is a part of a dragon's physical maturity, Spike could be 20, 30, 40, 100 years old and his body would still look like that of a child. Funny thing is, would you still think Spike is a baby dragon if your first impression of him was his "Greedy Rampage Mode" instead of his "Cute Mode" form?
  19. If fondness of ice cream is what you would use to think he is a child, then shouldn't Pinkie also be a child due to her fondness of cake? He has not done anything less mature than Pinkie or RD would do. His sleepiness could be attributed to getting up early to start early on his chores like in "Over a Barrel" Spike: [groan] Do you guys mind? I was up early fire-roasting those snacks you're all eating, and I'm pooped! Rainbow Dash: Uh, speaking of, some of these popcorn kernels didn't get popped. Spike: Okay, fine... Rainbow Dash: Ghk... Spike: Good Night! Even so, there are episodes where he stays up late like the party in the first episode "Friendship is Magic pt1" or when he stayed out late during his birthday in "Secret of my Excess" and of course when he was researching about dragons with Twilight in "Dragon Quest." Granted his body is smaller and weaker than the ponies because he lives like a pony but in "Secret of my Excess," we saw what his body should have looked like if he lived like a real dragon.
  20. Everyone in Ponyville probably knows about his crush on Rarity. Well, at least the ponies he hangs out with do. And after all this time, none of them have ever crush blocked him saying he's too young or that its strange for a dragon to have a crush on a unicorn. Given their relationship with dragons as a species, its already strange that a dragon is living among them and nobody seems to mind. "Boast Busters" is a good example of how Twilight supports Spike's crush on Rarity. After Spike tried to impress Rarity with his fake mustache and fails, Twilight tells him to not rely on the mustache and instead just be himself. To me this means Twilight doesn't treat it like a little boy with a crush on his teacher. Twilight made it sound like he actually has a shot... otherwise she would just be setting him up for failure... Other than that, yeah, they do treat him like crap. Which makes me sad because he is my favorite character.
  21. That didn't happen 2 to 3 years ago. That happened a looooong time ago.
  22. I think she was just randomly accusing characters. It just happened Gustave was the closest.
  23. Wait THAT'S TOTALLY COOL! I don't know anything about Eragon but If that's true and Celestia has had Spike's egg for who knows how many years used as an exam item, then Spike would indeed be... older than the main ponies? Anyway, I know Hasbro's dragon lore in FiM is roughly borrowed from D&D dragon lore. I mean the dragons hoarding instincts and greedy behavior is kind of like how they would describe dragons in a D&D monster manual. So it might not be the same for Eragon universe.
  24. Actually if just compared to Rainbow Dash or Pinkie Pie, Spike is really more mature in terms of sense of responsibility because RD is lazy and reasoning because Pinkie Pie, as adorable as she may be, isn't the most reasonable pony on the show. I just realized Spike was actually more mature than compared to Garble or any of the dragons he met.
