Quite so. id Tech 4 had great lighting being it's best advantage versus it's main competition, Havok, which had great physics. id Tech 4 doesn't have terribly bad physics either though, and honestly I prefer id Tech 4 to Havok-based physics any day.
if you'd fire up Doom 3 with a mod that fixes clarity on some textures, it could very well be on par with COD-era in terms of graphical quality. the only flaw in the Doom 3 engine was that it would have problems rendering large outdoor areas (something that Raven fixed for Quake 4). i guess that's where id Tech 5 adressed: great, smooth animation, and large gorgeous outdoors. but it fails at what id Tech 4 did best: lightning, and corridor areas.
this is just me talking out of my ass though. i've never played Rage, so i dunno how it's like.

expected anything else from Mr. Carmack?
many people on Doomworld also talks about how great the lightning system is in Doom 3, compared to other titles. do you agree with that?

i still think Happy Time Circus 2 is the best horror game made so far.

Yeah, I did read them. While it did give some information it wasn't enough details for my taste. I guess I might just be being picky because I'm one of those gamers who think that a good story is the most important part of a game.
Doom.
the plot in ME could be improved though yeah. with the kind of setting you are in, fleshing out why things are this way could spruce things up a bit.

a fair and interesting review. i enjoyed playing through the game, but can certainly agree that it has design faults, and just plain faults in it. i really do hope that the sequel improves on that point; it'd be a shame to see this interesting concept get zapped away by EA.

Above: the only reason I have ever removed myself from the space directly in front of a computer screen.

someone should make an acronym for "go fuck yourself" for these situations.

does CS2 have lesser system requirements? it might be a good alternative for people with low-end computers to use, though i'm unsure what services CS2 had back then (if Premiere, Illustrator, AND Photoshop is free, then a poor man's computer might find some use for them!).

i'm sure Adobe made CS1 open source too, right?
anyway, it's useful, but i'm unsure if such an ancient version of Photoshop holds up well today. well, it's better than having to rely on MS Paint, at least!

actually, you can kill two birds with one stone by reviewing this album, which starts out with hardcore, and then is harsh noise: http://petriform.com/album/killing-blossom

DO A HARSH NOISE ALBUM REVIEW.

the AAA makes sense, at least: they don't want to waste time making a elongated, perfect name, so they just hit the A button or whatever button that makes them skip pass that, which defaults to AAAAA.

Metroidvania's got a nice cling to it, though. so does First Person Shooters, Platformers, Role-Playing Games, etc. Exploration-Platformer is clumsy and doesn't roll off the tongue, either.
plus, it gives the impression that you're gonna play a platformer, while the gameplay, while indeed having platforming elements, might not follow that, strictly. like Metroid Prime, that's enough to call it a Metroidvania style of game, but it's also got the well-known, you know, FPS-aspect to it, even though that's mostly because of how you control the character in First Person. i might be in the wrong calling it that though.
anyway, Exploration-Platformer is a clumsy word compared to Metroidvania, which is much smoother. another good candidate might be to call it an Adventure game, i guess. that makes more sense... right?

you know you're in deep shit when a little girl calls your little girl stuff for baby stuff.

it sounds interesting, and it certainly would be a hell of a lot better than watching a damn LP with some idiot talking nonstop about stuff i don't give two shits about.

that is true. there was a lot of "techno" compilations, which honestly was for the most part something completely different. there WERE actual techno compilations, however, but they were mostly acid-techno ones and, i think, not as wide-spread and mainstream as the more contemporary "techno" compilations.
-
well, technically, The Prodigy and The Chemical Brother's music isn't really techno. there's a common misconception about the usage of the word techno to mislabel certain genres of music. techno is, nowadays, a really niche genre of electronic music that had its roots in Detroit. it never got huge public fame like house and trance has, but the word is so commonly used for some reason.
