It hit 100°F today. This September has been unusually brutal, even for the humid southeast :scoots:

@Splashee, oh wow, I'm surprised this old post is still around.

A capacitor can be discharged by shorting it out, tho I probably would use a beefy resistor with those fat electrolytics. :muffins:

  5. Got a lot done at the property last weekend. Also spent some time riding my 4-wheeler thru the trails. It felt so good opening up the throttle!  :fluttershy:

Can't wait to go back this weekend! Even tho I'll be doing some electrical work.  :coco:

Yeah, I saw the update. Brees will miss at least 6 games after the surgery.

He's such an integral part of the Saints team. I don't see any rising star that can take his place this season or when he decides to retire.  :sunny:

  8. Well I wasn’t expecting that! Cracker Barrel hired me right on the spot! :squee: They said I’d be a perfect fit for a hostess position. The interview experience was sooo much nicer than Hungry Howie’s...plus, unlike Howie’s, I think they mean it when they say they want to hire me. ^_^

I just have to complete an orientation and training which will take about a week or so. I’m so excited! :yay:

I've only rode a horse maybe once. One of my old neighbors use to let me ride with him on his wagon, which was pulled by two horses.

  19. Elon Musk’s “Nuke Mars” campaign as I understand wouldn’t work.

yes it will release co2 into mars’ atmosphere, but the amount released will be insufficient to cause noteworthy warming. Additionally, the atmosphere created would spend the next few years being stripped away by the solar wind. This is because Mars’ magnetic field is very weak, or completely nonfunctional. This was also the reason Mars lost its water in the first place: its core cooled and solidified. A molten core is one of the prerequisites for a functional magnetic field. Without a molten core the magnetic field vanishes, which leaves the planet susceptible to solar radiation. This radiation gradually strips away atmosphere until it is too thin or gone completely and can no longer support liquid water.

So nuking Mars would not accomplish much.

All this talk about nuking planets.... Saturn is still pissed at us for crashing the Cassini spacecraft into its atmosphere

Sorry for hijacking your status update, @Lucky Bolt  :adorkable:

@Splashee, Mercury vapor has a pretty strong spectral line in the green region, so it would be difficult to remove it without some sort of filter. Another thing to keep in mind is that cameras don't exactly see the same as our eyes. The color filters in front of the sensor have some overlap, so that may explain the difference?  :mlp_huh:

@Splashee, An off the shelf camera won't capture that info without the UV/IR blocking filter glass removed. It's installed directly onto the sensor, which generally requires a lab tech to remove it in a clean room. Cameras with the filter glass already removed can be purchased on ebay and some specialty camera shops online.

Once the camera has that filter removed, you'll need screw on filters for your lens. UV/IR blocking filters are really cheap and allow you to shoot normal photos after the mod. Near IR filters are fairly cheap, but UV is expensive and also requires the use of quartz lenses or older glass without coatings. After that, yeah you'll want to shoot in RAW format. White balance gets real weird when dealing with UV and IR light :adorkable:

@Splashee, sky photos shot in Near IR have amazing contrast since the sky appears black and vegetation appears bright white. UV is great for photographing patterns on flowers, that are invisible to human eyes.

Everyday objects also look a lot different in Near IR. Portraits hanging on the wall appear blank in this region
