  1. I've been wanting one of these solar telescopes for quite some time, but my wallet still says no.

      Noice!

I'm not hiding I'd love to have these things too! ^_^

    2. Cash In

      Cash In

Man, that would be awesome to have.

  2. I've had a lot on my mind lately, especially with my plans to buy some land in a couple years. I find moving to be stressful, since I moved a lot when I was a kid. I've lived in the same general area for about 2 decades, so it will be tough but I'm ready to move on.

100 acres of pine trees and class 3 dark skies is calling my name.

Good luck, my friend! :kindness: Even if it's difficult at first, I'm sure everything will go well! :rarity:

      Lord Midnight Madness

I'm looking to move to but it will be a little bit before I can get my place in the country. I hope it goes good for you man. The place i'm at now is my parents house and the internet sucks so a place with good internet is a necessity. lol

@Lord Midnight Madness, I live in a fairly rural area but I don't own the woods surrounding me. The only internet I can get here is satellite, which is what I'm currently using. It works

@Twilight Luna, Oh believe me. I'd love to, but I can't move too far away from work. There's some really dark skies within an hour or so drive from my work, so that's probably what I'll go for.

  3. Imaging gear is inside and I'm sleepy. I'll share the results with y'all tomorrow.

    Good night everypony!

I’m sorry to hear that. It’s supposed to rain here all weekend. Not looking forward to it.

Cute pony videos are fun to watch. How about a smile song?

@The Recherche, Winter Wrap Up? Yes, please! :ticking:

With the flowers beginning to bloom, I plan to do some UV shots this afternoon. Tonight, I wish to try out my wide angle lens on the Winter Milky Way. Might take a peek at Mars too, but it's so tiny and far away now.

Hope you get some clear skies

    3. Tacodidra

      Tacodidra

Great to hear that, my friend! :mlp_yay: And I think that Pinkie shows very well how happy that made you! :pinkie:

There's still some snow here, but thankfully it's no longer especially cold! :P

It only got up to about 45 degrees here but the sun was out. I hope your day was fantastic.

  6. It is incredibly difficult to image cloud details on Uranus.

Tonight, I succeeded. I am so excited!!  :ticking:

@Tacodidra, do you ever sleep? :-P

    3. Tacodidra

      Tacodidra

Yeah, at very random times. And sometimes my sleep can be quite fragmented, which makes it seem even more like I don't. :P Actually, this week I've slept more than in ages – maybe due to the darkness outside or my cold or various factors combined :muffins:

      Phosphor

What? How? lol! I would be like a zombie if I slept like that!

Hope you get to feeling better, tho. :kindness:

  9. It's gonna be in the 20's tonight, but I plan to take another shot at the Horsehead Nebula.

In the meantime, here's my 3rd attempt on the Pleiades. (22 min exposure)

On a side note, sometimes I wish I could offer some pony content to the fandom.  :sunny:

Thanks guys. I'm fine. It was a weird feeling that hit me while looking at my profile. Not enough ponies.

@Tacodidra, yeah, I suppose the Horsehead Nebula would sorta count. :P

  10. It's not often for an amateur astronomer to talk nice about clouds, but they are amazing when photographed with a near IR camera. The sky becomes black, which really makes the clouds pop out.

@Mellow Mane , clouds have a strange habit of showing up right after purchasing telescope accessories. lol

@Simply Cerberus, lol! It took me a second to see it, but now I do.

    3. Tacodidra

      Tacodidra

I guess I should take back some of the bad things I've said about clouds. :adorkable: I think especially the first picture looks great – those lights... :rarity:

    4. Phosphor

      Phosphor

@Tacodidra, clouds tend to get the same treatment as our Moon in amateur astronomy circles. lol. A lot of astrophotographers view the Moon as a giant light polluter.

  11. It's not often I pass up a clear night for astronomy, but I'll make an exception for tonight. It's gonna be in the mid 20's.

@Celtore, not just for me but batteries and the grease on my tracking mount feels like glue in the cold temps.

@Tacodidra, tomorrow night will be 31°F. I can handle that. :P

    3. RDDash

      RDDash

21°/8° Celestia but it's sunny for 3 days, no clouds for me

    4. Phosphor

      Phosphor

@R.D.Dash, yikes! I suppose one could do some solar astronomy in those temps.  :P

  13. It's so pretty outside today! :D

The foliage is beginning to lose some reflectivity in the near infrared spectrum, as the leaves change color and fall.

      @Celtore, Where's the snowman? :-P

    3. Celtore

      Celtore

It kind of turned dark like moments after I took that picture. Plus, right now, I think I'd prefer to stay inside where it's heated :P

@Celtore, indoor astronomy sounds pretty good when it's freezing outside.

  14. It's so weird to see Drew Brees in a Chargers uniform. I didn't even know he once threw a TD pass against the Saints! :sealed:

  15. It's time for me to hit the hay. After last week, I will need all the sleep I can get.

    Good night everypony. :fluttershy:

  16. Last night was wonderful! The atmosphere was as steady as one could ask for. I will be posting more images of Mars and Saturn pretty soon.

The storm near the Polar Hexagon appears to have grown in size, since the last time I saw it.

  18. Looks like a great day to reorganize the toolbox in my truck.

I pulled out a spare fan clutch, 2 fuel pumps, ignition coil, belts, hoses, etc. I pretty much have the whole auto parts store in there! ^_^

I also found a rebuild kit for the factory carburetor in the toolbox. lol. I took it out because my truck has a 4 barrel Edelbrock carb.

@J.T. My favorite part was their making me wait 2 1/2 weeks to do it because reasons.

@Phosphor Little known fact: if you were to drive your car to the moon, you would die.

  19. Looks like I'll have some clear skies this week. I think I'll take some more wide field shots of the Orion Constellation.

I did find a solution for my dslr mount. It should handle the weight of that quartz lens.

Lies. I can see two faint ones off to the right, and a third just below center (unless it's dirt on the lens, but at this magnification, I'm kinda doubting that'd show up) :P
